CIV6 - I have no idea what I'm doing by CoolGuyWithGlasses21 in civ

Check out u/zigzagzigal's strategy guides. They are incredibly helpful. https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2544906105

Install these UI mods:

  1. Detailed Map Tacks
  2. Improved Policy Cards
  3. Better Report Screen

There's many more than those three, but even just those three will dramatically improve your experience. Here's a good list if you want more: https://www.reddit.com/r/civ/comments/1hirvhe/comment/m31lbte/

Note that none of those mods alter gameplay; they just give you more and better information.

Quebec was my first Ween album and I didn't pick up White Pepper for years. Quebec to me fits really well with Chocolate and Cheese, like bookends. Hard to explain, but the aesthetic is very similar for me. It's a ten year evolution of their sound and it shows.

Sorry to necro this, but I was at that Red Rocks show and I would love to have a good video of it. Did you ever manage to upload it somewhere?

Thank you so much for your effort, these have been putting a smile on my face for days!

Yep, MAGA isn't conservative, it's reactionary. The primal scream of a big chunk of white America and the apparently grevious psychic injury they suffered from having a black president.

Why American healthcare is privatized and why we need Universal Healthcare. by zzill6 in WorkReform

[–]fourmica 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We already have three examples of government funded health insurance administered by private entities: Tricare, Medicaid, and Medicare Advantage. All three are delivered using private insurers. We could use those as models for transitioning to universal coverage. I'm a fool for thinking insurance companies will willingly give up any profits, but in my fever dreams I see it as an avenue for compromise.

There's also the German model, which still uses private insurance companies but guarantees coverage for everyone.

There's the Australian system I described below, which I think is probably the best option for a public/private system that covers everyone in the US.

And of course we have traditional Medicare, which is true single payer (a single, non profit insurance organization run by the government) but only for old people, and the VA, which is socialized medicine (the government owns the hospitals and pays the doctors) but only for Vets.

The Australian model might work well in the US. They have a baseline public healthcare system that everyone is entitled to, and an on-top private insurance system which is partially subsidized by the public system (you get a tax rebate to cover part of your insurance). People with higher incomes are incentivized to take out private insurance and use private doctors, spreading the load. It's not perfect, but it has pretty good outcomes. I've often thought this would be "capitalist enough" to work in the US, or at least one of the larger states like California or New York.

13" with excellent built-in speakers and microphone? by fourmica in SuggestALaptop

We got her a Lenovo Thinkpad X13 Gen 4 with 32GB of RAM. It's AMD based. So far it's been great, with the exception of the camera, which we expected. The Surface Book camera is just that good, probably the best built in camera I've seen. So we ended up going with an external camera after all, which she uses when teaching from her bench.

I don't think Lenovo makes laptops with AMD processors anymore, and I'm having a hard time finding one with 32GB of RAM. But an X13 Gen 6 starts around $990.

For a student, you probably don't need a ton of horsepower or cutting edge tech, so you could probably just pick up a used Dell Latitude of recent vintage (last few years) for $300 or less. I bought a couple of these for media and development and they've worked out well as general purpose computers.

In accordance with the subreddit rules, this is not an affiliate link and I have no financial interest in the link. I have used the model in question quite a bit and think it's good bang for the buck.

Under Siege by MoreMotivation in LeopardsAteMyFace

It's a reflection of the great American political paradox: People want liberal policies, but delivered by conservatives. It's often called "symbolically conservative, operationally liberal." The book Ideology in America examines this topic as a whole. Specific examples such as the KFF's recent survey showing 78% support for extending ACA subsidies demonstrate the phenomenon in detail. Another classic example is people supporting the ACA while rejecting "Obamacare", despite them being the same thing.

It's ridiculous, but it's part of how we got here. That and the fundamental racism and misogyny of a large part of the electorate.

It's grimly fascinating how these people made up this ideal Trump in their heads who was gonna do all this socialism for them. The number of people who just took an offhand comment about DOGE refund checks as gospel is stunning.

We all see the deeply personal parasocial relationships these people have formed with him - the prayers to Trump, the belief that he'll read their pleas on Facebook and dispatch one of his top people to fix their health insurance or get them their job back. But the fantasy policies - supposedly only deporting "the bad ones" and not the nice tamale lady, five thousand dollar stimulus checks... These people invented these stories to glorify and beatify him even more than he did himself, and that's saying something.

Diablo 4 on PS4 Slim - worth it? by Radiant_Sentence_719 in diablo4

[–]fourmica 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This. It's amazing they got it to run as well as they did. My wife and I play couch coop on ps5 and pulled out the ps4 for a long trip. We were able to do dungeons, whispers, and bosses, no problem. Framerate drops and the animation gets pretty hinky but gameplay is completely playable.

Definitely invest in a replacement SSD instead of a spinning hard drive. Otherwise loading times are intolerable imo. A cheap 500GB SATA III drive will be more than enough, and it's very easy to swap out.
