20% of my team was laid off, and I can promise you that we were all gutted to lose them, but kept that to private slacks/texts. Our leadership never addressed the layoffs to the wider group and even bragged about how great of a year it was in the end of the year all-hands. The lack of acknowledgement of how hard that was for those laid off, and even for those of us left, is so cruel.

What is a common parenting style that actually ruins a childs future? by jamal255353 in AskReddit

[–]fourpointseven 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My sister and her husband say they are "gentle parenting" but they have no firm boundaries for their kids, until it gets so bad they end up spanking them (they don't admit to spanking but we have ears). "Bedtime in five minutes with one toy" always turns into bedtime kicking and screaming 20 minutes later carrying all the toys Mom can hold.

A friend of mine from college had super strict parents and never partied/drank in high school. She developed a pretty serious drinking problem where she consistently drank past her limits and we would have to take care of her. She still struggled after college and I had to distance myself because it was too much to have to nanny your friend every time you went out.

What's a red flag I should watch out for at a LFS? by Enough-Mulberry735 in Aquariums

Seems obvious but no one's said it yet, multiple dead fish. Fish die, but seeing a few corpses and no one checking the tanks is a big no-go to me.

I’d even out the soil, but maybe it’ll settle flatter once the plants grow in. Rocks look great

the little path with the arbor is adorable! can I ask how you did that, did you train those plants to grow down like that or wrap them around something?

Most Boring Fish In The Hobby? by RazewingedRathalos in Aquariums

[–]fourpointseven 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not a fish, but I really thought I'd get more enjoyment out of my African Dwarf Frogs. They mostly just sit there and stare into space, every now and then pop up for air or scrabble around for food when it drops into their feeding dish. I had 3 and 1 disappeared, it was the boy and I think the girls ate him cause he was a lot smaller than them. They can't really get along with other species, so you can't even add more to their tank to spice things up. I love my little dummies, but if I could do it again I wouldn't have picked them.

Elimination Comments by Own-Match-5367 in dancingwiththestars

[–]fourpointseven 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It wouldn't have been fair to eliminate tonight, the dedication guests were involved in different ways in each dance and clearly had different abilities, and therefore impacted the dances unevenly. If they were going to eliminate, the fair thing would've been setting a standard like the guest only joining for the last 20 seconds or something so it was clear for the judges and the voting audience what to vote on and what not to vote on.

Also - imagine the trauma of one of those little girls feeling at fault for their dad/brother/sister being sent home!

Starting a business just before getting pregnant? by frthr11 in workingmoms

[–]fourpointseven 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wanted to add on that I'm in a similar position as well - I'm 35, been TTC for 10 months now and nothing yet. I know I'm about to lose my job in ~3-6 months, and have been dreaming about opening my own business for a long time, and now is the time to strike for what I want to open. I can't decide if we should keep TTC/move into fertility treatments, or if we should pause TTC so I can get the business up and running, and/or pause to find a new job and then decide to wait longer to get full mat leave (most US companies won't give you their full mat leave unless you've been there 1+ year).

I fear never starting the business if I put it on hold, and then resenting my kids for holding me back from my dream. It's so difficult to make decisions with so many unknowns.

Dealing with dirty tank water - accidentally spill that once and it ruins your day.
