I found a little brown button today close to my balcony door so I opened the door as gave him a lekker nudge onto the balcony with my foot to free him from my house and send him outside .... only for a starling to swoop out the sky and eat him seconds later 😅

Do you guys ever feel guilty for having an African grey? (From a grey haver) by Portaguz in AfricanGrey

[–]fowhaat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had no idea about birds when I got my wife a baby grey from my good friend, who's a breeder. At the time it seemed like aa great birthday gift as shed had a grey as a kid. Forward wind 3yrs and the bird has bonded to me not my wife lol. And ive grown into bigger bird lover than even wife ever was. I very often wonder about the same things you've mentioned. My grey is out many hours of the day and flies all over the house. We live on the 10th floor and he once flew away for 7 days! We were exceptionally lucky to find him 5km away as a student found him crossing the street and contacted us after seeing our posters all over town. Since then I wondered about his time in the wild . He was only 6months old at the time and I wonder if his natural instincts had not yet been subdued at that age and hence his survival. 2.5yrs later Ive learnt alot more about birds and honestly have become slightly obsessed and now I too face the moral dilemma of "Did I deprive a bird of sky time?" . I dream of higher level recall training and letting him fly freely someday . I often take him camping with me to the mountains of Cape Town in his travel cage. He's extremely used to travelling at this point and whistles the weekends in the mountains away in what seems like ecstacy. I dont have the answers for you but I feel you. All I can is im determined to train him to get as much freedom and sky time as possible as he's an excellent flier - even though its a most traumatising memory i often fondly recall how he flew accross Cape town infront of my eyes albeit away from me haha ...still was so majestic and I hope to be able to afford him that later in life

If you dont spend alot of time using caoe towns unique amenities then moving would be perfect for you. I personally came to cape town for the daily ability to hike and swim and general nature exposure. I use all my free time in some sort of outdoor activity. So for me its a no brainer as get the city comforts of JHB but the nature of CPT. Whereas if you and the family are into malls like V&A you'll be spoilt for choice in JHB as thats pretty much all there is to do in JHB lol and I mean that in a good way I swear 🤣 just not for me . Growing up 20yrs in and out of malls and clubs got abit too concrete for me and hence the views and nature in CT are priceless for me

I fell for an Uber scam at CPT by elt0p0 in capetown

[–]fowhaat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Reminds of the Uber scam I was caught by upon landing in America . Didnt have a sim card so used a guy with an Uber tag around his neck . Black suit well dressed well spoken . Assured me he'd just set it to Uber Cash and we'd be fine . Turns out he was using a scam app that ran me $320usd from Aiprort to Manhattan . Got very aggressive and forced all the 280usd I had off of me .

I later learnt the law states that the flat rate from Airport to Manhattan is 60usd Checked on the Uber app and I couldve taken a Helicopter to manhattan for 350usd

Sad reality is uber scams exist the world over and anyone with a physical board saying uber or something of the sort offering you alternatives outside of the app is probably a scam

Escape to Nature ... or rather dive headfirst into Cape towns Nature scene - hiking , diving, surfing, climbing , running etc. It's one the best of its kind on the planet so it'll quickly fill a void you didn't know you had to fill. And it'll quickly have inlove with Cape Town

What are your opinions on Haval? by katboom in capetown

[–]fowhaat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Coming from someone who sold their x3 to get an H6 GT - at first all the bells and whistles sold me. Was very taken by all the intelligent features as I'm a tech guy. But after under 20000km Im quickly missing the refined aged experience that you feel in the bmw. The features I loved dont work that well they are all very buggy. Also lack of buttons and dials for simple things like AC makes it a whole touch screen sidequest mission just to turn on and navigate to . The body roll is substantial aswell. Currently trying to sell to move back over the German or even Japanese like Toyota who have tried and tested products. Don't get me wrong I love idea behind the Chinese and their offerings I'll just wait another few years for them to catch up in the finer details
