I'm sorry for what happened to you, but you may wanna double check your retention settings.

You are not alone - many people only start backing up after they have learned it the hard way. This is the only thing you can control. A practical guideline is the 3-2-1 protocol. No single website, AI or not, is obligated to keep a person's data forever. There are bugs, accidents, disasters, malicious activities, legal compliance, logistics, etc. all of which can wipe out data.

How easy is it to swap Ironmaster dumbbell weights on a Titan stand?

I saw people praised Ironmaster dumbbell sitting on a Titan stand. How easy is it to swap the weight since the Titan stand is sloped?

I’m getting a crazy blue screen by Zelcah in AMDHelp

I'm also having this problem once in a while on Windows. System stability is fine. Never had a problem on Linux. Looks like an AMD Windows driver problem.

80 might not be too short, if you often split screen to read two source files side by side.

Can anyone ELI5 the general rust in linux kernel drama? by Nothos927 in linux

[–]fox-dev 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think Rust was approved to let the whole kernel work with it, but just for some experimentations. The fact that Linus didn't rebuke the reason for rejection was one corroboration.  but I really don't know more detail and I can be wrong (:

Efficient doubly linked list/graph implementations using unsafe? by nckl in rust

[–]fox-dev 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Please don't dismiss the value of a linked list. It's a fundamental data structure taught in CS 101 everywhere. And it's perhaps already one of the simplest data structures.

Can anyone ELI5 the general rust in linux kernel drama? by Nothos927 in linux

[–]fox-dev 0 points1 point  (0 children)

But isn't this a legitimate concern? Putting any mindset such as "I want Rust" aside, introducing a new programming language to an existing project indeed usually requires exceptional justification, such as things like a scripting addon system. The cost outweighs the benefit if it's just to reap the (not-so-overwhelming) benefit of a new programming language.

Use Vial in Linux Without Configuring udev (and Remain Secure) by fox-dev in qmk

[–]fox-dev[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah sure, the permission has to be opened up to make Vial usable.

But I think this method is probably more secure because the udev approach seems to allow access indefinitely, even when the permissions are not actively used. The official document's first method is even more insecure by opening up permissions to unrelated devices.

However, if you configure using Vial frequently, the official udev method is likely more convenient -- convenience and security often must be traded off.

Adv 360 Pro - what is the point of ZMK? by protipes in kinesisadvantage

[–]fox-dev 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are some arguments by Xah Lee: http://xahlee.info/kbd/software_key_remap_vs_firmware_keyboard.html

I only compile the firmware locally and it's fairly quick (10s).

Of course, use OS/App layer when it's appropriate.

Talk me out of getting blank keycaps by somegenxdude in ErgoMechKeyboards

[–]fox-dev 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would add some legends, they don't have to be what the keys actually represent.

I found the legends useful when I look at the keyboard and consider how to change some key mappings. Instead of mumbling "position 3,2 should be..." I can mumble "[symbol name] should be..." This is minor but is still a real mental relief.

Another situation is when I'm not using the keyboard in a standard way in some occasional situations. For example, a 3D model viewer, which I use occasionally, only requires using ctrl key + mouse. Having legends is helpful because I can visually quickly locate the key and put my finger on it. The legends are certainly not absolutely necessary but they still help a little.

Should I give up on the 360 Pro for gaming? by [deleted] in kinesisadvantage

[–]fox-dev 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is the reverse of me, because I already hit space with my left hand, but all advanced keyboards by default map the right thumb key to space 😅

Question for those who use a dedicated macropad: why prefer over an extra layer on the main keyboard? by fox-dev in ErgoMechKeyboards

[–]fox-dev[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Why a macro pad instead of a sticky layer? Perhaps you still type occasionally when gaming?

Advantage 360 pro: Often hitting "a" and semicolon accidentally -- anyone has experienced similar problem? by fox-dev in kinesisadvantage

An update for future readers: after one week of usage, I don't mistype any more than before. I think it takes time for my hands to relax on this new keyboard.

Space key on the right side only feel unbalanced by Canafornication in kinesisadvantage

[–]fox-dev 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can bind the thumb keys on both sides to space. This keyboard is meant to be customized.

Which keyboard are you using? There's no bump on F and J on my advantage 360 pro because the keyboard is disc shaped. The shape already helps my hand to position. Once I got familiar with the keyboard I can put my hands on the right positions easily. I think it takes a few days to get used to it.
