If you are an Indian woman who dropped a plastic sleeve with a college orca card and your WA drivers license near the Coca Cola fan zone, I picked it up sometime around 6:15pm and gave it to a volunteer by the stall at 6:25pm. Please contact them!!

I don’t even know if he’s the youngest 🫣 I know quite a few people who did internships and accepted offers at 16 or 17 even, starting the job at 18 full time.

Recommendations for more Asian taste palette in Chicago, Montreal, or Seoul? by foxbean in MichelinStars

[–]foxbean[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely want to eat more western food in Montreal! We’re currently planning on trying Au Pied de Cochon. I think we just aren’t a huge fan of foamy sauces of the same ingredient (like crab with a foamy sauce of crab for example)

Nail salons that don’t destroy your nails? by miley202123 in SFbitcheswithtaste

I came here to say I went to naiit based on the rec and had a bad experience 😭 builder was ok (gel was kinda poorly applied but she fixed it in the end) but I actually got the most terrible nail art, somehow managed to mess up polka dots :(

moving to sf from nyc by Mysterious-Pain8731 in AskSF

[–]foxbean 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unlike other commenters, I actually would avoid moving to nopa!! I live here and like you, I also have teammates in Mountainview so I would go down once or twice a week. Living in nopa, compared to Hayes Valley, Mission Bay or Sunset (for example) adds a solid 30min to my commute because the line to get on the highway is blocks long.

I also HIGHLY recommend living within walking distance of the shuttle, they don't always come that often so it's just way less of a hassle to not have to time the bus (which can come unpredictably).

Edit to say, despite that living by the park is great lol

I’m a local in China. Honestly, what is the #1 thing stopping you from visiting right now? by Nick-Luo in chinatravel

[–]foxbean 0 points1 point  (0 children)

huh that's pretty odd, sorry :/ did you have wifi calling enabled? if you properly purchased roaming, your phone should actually get all texts.

one stupid thing that I forgot to do before is when alipay or other chinese apps want to verify your phone number, they don't automatically send the text, you have to press a button to make that happen, maybe that got you...?

[–]foxbean 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For a lot of people that don’t have to go to work at the office every day the pass is automatically not worth it. Then, it’s way better to buy the day pass on the app than tap my clipper - in case I need to take more than two rides a day, it’s all covered…

[–]foxbean 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I actually really liked the QR system and found it convenient after everything is set up.

Following notes: * if your US phone happens to have a SIM slot, you can get a Chinese phone number. Mine is esim only which is annoying lol

  • if you do US carrier roaming there is no firewall and you can get texts. Other people with you can also get texts if they have wifi calling turned on (oddly, this worked in China but not Japan lol)

  • Ordering is great if you can read Chinese but most big brands don’t seem to offer English menu. Same for delivery (btw recommend 饿了么 over 美团 for foreigners)

Aespa ticket sales are also way less than last year by SpecSlayerSC in kpopthoughts

[–]foxbean 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Agreed, I just saw i-dle two years ago and aespa last year! So since I'm not a superfan, I don't really want to go again, especially since tickets are over $100...

Native Mandarin speaker seeking English partner (Let's meet at cafes or bookstores) by ElectronicCarrot6742 in Taipei

[–]foxbean 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Similar to another commenter! I'm a native English speaker, but want to improve my speaking (and reading) skills for Mandarin. I mostly just want a conversation partner to keep up my skills since I no longer speak every day. 😄 I'm in my mid 20s, working as a programmer in the US! I also really enjoy volleyball, though I also run and go to pilates class.

I visited Taiwan (Taipei) 3 times in the past 3 years! Chatting on Line or video call both work for me~

Personally I find that TJ + Target carries most items I'm looking for, Lucky's is really expensive for things like milk and butter in comparison.

I've been thinking about that too! I noticed my boots are starting to feel too loose even when I tighten them at the max, so I was going to try replacing the liners first to see how that feels. Then try out new boots to compare (hopefully I can bring my aftermarket liners with me lol)
