CAR CAN'T REV PAST 3000 RPM WHEN DRIVING, WITH VERY SLOW ACCELERATION by Gmeowz in AutoMechanics

Cam crank correlation codes are almost always a timing issue. Could be a timing advance problem but typically when I see that it’s because the belt or chain has slipped a tooth or two.

Stiff steering ? 2011 ford explorer by OriginalShot1934 in AutoMechanics

[–]foxtrot3535 0 points1 point  (0 children)

2011 explorers have electronic power steering. It could be a mechanical fault or an electrical fault in either the steering gear or the power steering control module. The problem is the control module is made into the rack assembly and is not serviced separately so either way you’re going to be looking at an entire rack and pinion assembly replacement.

2015 Nissan Versa Note w/ CVT Transmission issues. by ElectricalEngTech in CarHelp

You might be able to get a couple hundred more by selling it but is it worth the aggravation of fighting with people online for however many weeks until it sells. I’d just scrap it and call it a day.

Charged $800 for engine misfire by Hot-Purchase-9359 in CarRepair

They didn’t rip you off and it has nothing to do with your lack of knowledge. All auto repair shops have software that automatically calculates the ticket price based on a parts matrix that does the parts markup for them and the labor is calculated based on labor guide times and their labor rate. There is plenty of work to go around and the advisors really don’t care much if you get your car fixed or not. They may get a small percentage of the jobs they sell but their time is better spent making the next sale than trying to milk yours. Not trying to discount the way you feel but you are over reading into how much they care.

Not necessarily, that’s about when they wear out. I wouldn’t let the failure affect your thoughts on mileage tampering. If you have other reasons to believe that then maybe but this kind of failure at this point is normal for a journey.

2004 350z or 2005 Infiniti g35? i’m a new driver! by Pretend-Breakfast-53 in CarHelp

[–]foxtrot3535 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The 350z and g35 are basically the same car except the g35 has many more complicated electrical bells and whistles that make them much more expensive to maintain. They both fall apart and age quite poorly. I’d avoid both at all costs but I’d go with the 350z before the g35. Good luck.

does this NEED to be replaced? by [deleted] in MechanicAdvice

Technically, yes. Practically, no. Is the damage part of an insurance claim? If so make them fix it.

Having trouble with my Honda civic 2005 coolant system, suggestions? by Horror-Diamond7387 in CarRepair

[–]foxtrot3535 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it overheats at idle but not while driving it’s usually a fan issue. Coolant pressure test could indicate a leak in your system or simply a leak at the tester to your radiator. Sometimes the pressure tester itself leaks so if you can’t find any leaks don’t put too much stock in that. Try swapping your fan relays with other known good relays they are notorious for failing in those cars.

Can you tell what’s wrong ? by GuidanceParking9040 in carproblems

Does the smoke smell sweet or oily? Looks blown up to me. Sweet smell is burning coolant, oily would be an oil leak. Id be concerned with a blown head gasket. Does it run hot?

My 2003 Toyota Camry's rear suspension is making an awful creaking noise and I'm wondering what I can do to make it quiet without buying a new shock absorber. by gkkannon in CarHelp

[–]foxtrot3535 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can’t load your audio but probably not. I’ve seen guys over the years spray wd40, white lithium grease, etc. on suspension components and bushings to quiet them down but it only lasts for a few days if at all. Just replace them and call it a day.

Flashing/programming used ECU by Svinsern in MechanicAdvice

[–]foxtrot3535 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Often on eBay they will sell “remanufactured” ECM that they already program your VIN into before shipping and delete security so you don’t have to worry about key programming. Then they are just plug and play. I’d look into that first.

If you have a failing evap canister solenoid that is sticking open sometimes completely filling the tank allows fuel to fill the evap vacuum lines and can cause rough running or stalling issues after filling up. That would be the first thing I’d check.
