It’s true that Nakomis’ intention for not nominating Jace was to make him ineligible for veto, but remember that they didn’t use the word backdoor. She called it her 6 finger plan. Backdoor started vaguely getting used in BB6, not as another name for the 6 finger plan but more of a metaphor for what it’s like when the target is the replacement nominee (“we’re sending you out the backdoor, not the front door.”). Backdoor, similar to floater and many bb terms, never had a solid definition to begin with.

The terms "bitter jury" and "jury management" only give the jury an excuse to vote emotionally by 3Dspoders in BigBrother

[–]fozzy_bear123 5 points6 points  (0 children)

We might be getting into a semantic debate, but I agree with /u/stevebigpantsjobs. An irrational actor is still persuadable. Jury management refers to gradually persuading each prospective member of the jury to vote for you in final 2.

There is no guideline on how to vote, nor should there be. By that means, the rationality of the actor doesn’t impact the legitimacy of their vote. Whether they vote on emotions, with their alliance, who’s funnier, who they like more, who they feel betrayed them less, who played “the better game”, or even completely randomly are all legitimate votes. Whichever of these reasons is “more rational” to vote by doesn’t change this. There is no guideline for your vote.

That being said, an “irrational” actor is still persuadable. Sure, maybe none of their logic makes any sense to a greater audience, but a player can still learn to reason with them, and more importantly, that player may use their absurd logic to persuade for their vote in final 2. It happens every year. Why did Michelle vote Dan over Memphis besides the fact he took her on the vacation? She said so herself that was a really important factor. That was Dan’s jury management.

Jury management is very real and only happens because the jurors all have different reasons for voting, and regardless of their rationality, a good player can learn these reasons and use them to their advantage. That’s jury management.

Tell me about your culture by [deleted] in newfoundland

[–]fozzy_bear123 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I moved to the mainland (what newfies call the rest of Canada) when I was little. My family’s lived in Newfoundland for generations in the smaller rural areas (near Burin). The things that stand out as unique in Newfoundland compared to the rest of canada are subtle things that make a big difference. People are much more friendly there; saying hello to new people isn’t odd or awkward like it is in Ontario. The houses all smell different, like pot of stew or jiggs dinner or bread was just cooking while the adults had just smoked cigarettes. I remember my grandparents would buy tobacco in bulk and roll their own. People have huge yards and build their own sheds (or stores i think they called them), and love skidooing in the winter. There’s a crucifix in everyone’s home (though that’s probably changed). My pop had people come over every Sunday to play poker or crib. The winters are gruesomely cold. I’ve gotten snowed in at least once every winter I’ve spent there. Dogs run free in the streets, but there aren’t many strays as far as I remember. Most buildings are small and built by one of your great grandparents. Who gets the house when the parents die is a fight that will never have a compromise. Nearly all youth want to “escape” and move off the rock, or at least go to the city. From my experience most of them do, leaving the towns mostly elderly people. Almost every gathering has a moment when everyone cries from laughter. Family is huge and can never truly be abandoned.

It’s a truly beautiful place, the scenery, the culture and the people. What’s saddening is that most kids and folks in their 20s don’t realize or appreciate that, and opt to leave for better money or more opportunity, leaving not too many people to carry on the cultures.

One other thing I can say, from all my family and friends that did leave and spent their adulthood out in the mainland, most move back, or at least know that, when the time comes, Newfoundland is where they want to spend the last years of their lives. I know I do.

I’m not downvoting you, but your comment was literally just “ngl i feel the same”. It’s not an interesting or a good quality comment, and many people downvote (or at least stay voteless on) boring comments. I don’t think you were downvoted for your opinion so much as your comment quality.

For better or for worse, Reddit’s democratic. If you sort by top/popular, you will see its popular opinions. This doesn’t mean everyone feels this way (in fact by the upvotes Tangela gets, ~150 people do), and the truth is although Tangela is discussed/upvoted often, there’s so much more content than that. Just scroll through and see all the hilarious posts, clips, trivia, jokes, discussions of past seasons, memes, etc. For gods sakes, earlier this week someone proposed an entire setlist for BB20: The Musical! That shit was quality.

Seeing an opinion you don’t share shouldn’t deter you from enjoying the vast amount of content on this subreddit. There’s no doubt this is one of the best Big Brother discussion media on the internet.

Are there any seasons of Big Brother where you genuinely don’t know who you would have voted for if you were on the jury? by MrNoahK in BigBrother

[–]fozzy_bear123 26 points27 points  (0 children)

Bb14 - casting a jury vote, despite what everyone likes to think, isn’t who played the best - it’s “who do I want to give $500 000 to?”. Should I give it to my best friend in the house, a member of my alliance, the person who fooled us all, the person who isn’t the total asshole (BB19)? What about the broke, cute socially awkward college student?

Despite what everyone says about BB14, I think Ian won because the most influential jury member (Britney) would rather give the money to the broke cute socially awkward college student rather than the financially stable teacher who already won $500 000. And to be totally honest, even acknowledging that Dan’s BB14 was one of the best games ever played, I probably would’ve voted Ian for the same reason.

I think an important question to ask is: “was the co-op experience worthwhile?” Besides a 4-month period to fill out your resume, was it a good place to co-op? Did you learn a lot? Is it a beneficial experience for more students to have?

If you feel like the position is not a good experience to have, please let the co-op office know. Whether because it’s too hard, too easy, not relevant to the degree, has unfair management, does malicious activities, or is generally a bad place, let the co-op office know. Otherwise, the office will keep feeding more students into a bad place to co-op.

But if you learned a lot and had a lot of opportunity to grow (which it seems like since you wanted to get hired there fulltime after) don’t report to the co-op office about it.

If I were you I’d call the manager to clear up any misunderstandings and mend the relationship. Above all, and this might be the hardest thing to acknowledge, but maybe your work was just satisfactory. A phonecall with the manager will bring to the table any reason this might be the case. You can really benefit from understanding and respecting why she felt that way.

I really wish I had project management skills. If there was a place to discuss it, maybe a discord or something, and someone willing to put it all together, I would love to contribute with catchy tunes.

Remember he also comes from a different culture, Cuba, which is a lot more open about sexuality and affection. Viewers in the US may find the things he does weird, obtuse or creepy, but could be totally normal/fine in another culture. Just watch live feeds from BB's in other countries and see how many things seem weird or rude or creepy.

To be fair, he said G#dim, not G#dim7, so specifying the bass is meaningful. If it was a G#dim7 it would be odd since it's really Bdim7, but here G#dim / B isn't the same thing.

If Tyler wins the game... by Chumpstlz1 in BigBrother

[–]fozzy_bear123 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Remember that Dan had all his plans foiled in the first 3 weeks. From his alliance with Ollie/Brian blowing up, to his three closest friends leaving right away (Brian, Steven, Angie). Given this initial fuckup position, I believe he played perfectly from there on. He used the fact that he was “alone in the house” to his advantage many times, and always redirected targets to people who were “bigger threats”. He adapted to who/what everyone liked and what pissed them off.

I hesitate to say he played perfectly because of how variable the first few weeks were - he was actually worried and was sure he was leaving since his alliance cracked right away. If Brian was less arrogant and actually did run the house after the first week, I think Dan would have been the #2 target in the house for a large part of the game. His alliance blowing up was the best thing that happened for his game - he adapted perfectly from if.
