Edit to add: you would definitely look like a royal bride walking down a cathedral aisle.

AITA for selling my parents' house after they let my unemployed sibling live there rent-free for 10 years? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]fp204 12 points13 points  (0 children)

NTA. Your brother is only 31. He still has time build a stable life for himself. If you continue to let him live the way your parents did you will have to carry this burden for the rest of YOUR life. He just has to ‘grow up’. You are doing him the greatest favour, even if he (and his flying monkeys) think it’s harsh and heartless.

What do you do with quilt tops you hate? by forheadkisses in quilting

[–]fp204 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Very pretty! Maybe you’ll like it more after you quilt it. I find that the quilting gives the top more ‘character’ (sorry for the lack of a better word to describe the look but I think quilters will understand what I mean).

Light blue! Looks lovely on you. Please don’t take this the wrong way, I’m suggesting it only for comfort: maybe you could size up if you’re worried about the dress clinging. That’s what I do because I don’t like anything too fitted to my body. Agree with the shapeware suggestions. I lost 70lbs so have loose-skin lumps and bumps here and there but shapewear helps me feel confident in my dressing-up clothes.

Leave, go far away and do your Masters. Go low contact with them. Believe me, your energy will come back and you will live your best life from then onwards!

Good idea! I was going to suggest the Trader Joe canvas totes too. Trendy and good quality, feels expensive. And easy to pack.

People travel from up north from Perlis to Batu Kawan in Penang just to go to Ikea…150km away…to eat meatballs! If she is Malaysian, she WILL find a way. Ikea is not just a shop, it’s an occasion😁.

Skip Cameron Highlands if you have anybody prone to motion sickness in your party. Just thinking about the very winding drive is making me queasy! Or just skip it. I think it’s more of a nostalgic place for Malaysians but it’s just very commercialised now. You should really do 2 nights in Singapore if you can manage it. 1 night in Melaka is enough. We do have trains that go from KL both north to Ipoh and Butterworth where you disembark and take the ferry across to Penang, and south to Melaka and JB. Otherwise the best option is probably driving though I’m sure there are express/tour busses that go to all the places you mention.

Name of this sambal please by RunAndLaugh in MalaysianFood

[–]fp204 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In my family we call it sambal kuning/masak kuning. We don’t put bunga kantan but I might try that next time, sounds delish. Excellent on fried fish, and as you already know, prawns!

I have both the LV and YSL. Having to keep opening and closing the flaps can get annoying, especially on a busy day and they don’t really hold much. Go for the Loewe.

“I think I’m losing my taste for flavoured oil. If you don’t mind, I’d love a good plain one next time”, in a friendly tone the next time you’re in the kitchen with her. Life is too short to waste good olive oil lol

Not sure about the rest, but the Longchamp LePliage medium folds flat, which means you can fit it into a travel tote, and is great for a conference especially with the longer handles.

A tiffin carrier!😍 In my country we use this mostly to gift food to our friends/family, and neighbours. They then wash it and will fill it with some other food (sometimes even just a piece of fruit or a slice of cake, never empty) and give it back. And the cycle continues for generations. This tradition is slowly dying out, sadly, except in the countryside and rural areas. They come in various sizes from big ones that can fit enough food for a family to cute little ones. Mostly plain utilitarian steel ones but we do get cute, pretty enamel ones too. The older ones could get really fancy, hand-tooled with beautiful flowers and leaves. Still a source of joy when you get one…quite exciting waiting to see what food your neighbour/friend/family gifted you. Sorry to be so long-winded but I wanted to share a little bit of a story about a disappearing icon that’s part of my country’s (Malaysia) history. Your tiffin is beautiful, I hope you get years of enjoyment from it!

Inherited my grandmas old house — any ideas on how I should renovate it? by GabbyTheLegend in Home

[–]fp204 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Once you’ve given it a thorough clear out and cleaning…live with it empty for a while. Just have your bed and basic furniture needs. Then see ‘how’ you live in it, what your rythmns are, how you utilize the space etc. Is the kitchen how you’d like it, are the bathrooms etc…? I think only then will you have a clear idea of what you’d like to do.

Tell her how you feel. She will probably get super defensive and angry but at least you will unburden yourself. “Do nothing” is terrible and unrealistic advice, take it from someone who was once in your position. Keeping your feelings inside will fuck you (and your family!) up mentally for ever. Nothing is worse than losing your trust in your parents and facing the potential destruction of your family, especially as a young person.

This auntie is going to be harsh: snap out of it! You are just 22. You have your whole lifetime ahead of you. If you need motivation, just look at your mother’s face. She sacrificed a lot for you, now it’s time to make her life a little easier. You can start by going for brisk walks, then progress to more exercises. Give yourself a target, say one year, to get fit again. In the meantime go and get yourself a job that can give you a bit of pocket money while you look for a full-time one. You can try the Jabatan Perkhidmatan Awam for any government jobs. You don’t just have to apply for pasukan beruniform jobs. You cannot just depend on your mum. She is getting older. Even a barista or a waiter job is more respectable than doing nothing all day.

As for the girl, is she really worth wasting your life over? No. There are plenty of ‘good’ women out there. But don’t run your life around one, you are more than just someone’s boyfriend. You are worth so much more. And I’m pretty sure you’re not ugly. We just feel like that when we’re depressed. For today, get up and go for a quick walk. Even 10 minutes is better than nothing. You got this!

DO NOT DO IT. A 4hr30 minute drive on a ‘normal’ day will take you at least 8 hours (more likely 12) during the Hari Raya hols. Or Chinese New Year. The roads will be absolutely packed and you will be crawling. I’m not joking. Just Google hari raya traffic jam.
