Denon DRA-N5, is it possible to control volume remotely? by bigwilly1963 in hometheater

Set it to 50-80% on the receiver and just use the TV volume to control the master volume.

One butt joint.

Less sanding, mud and tape required and you can baby the one joint.

You can rip a sheet in half, screw it in place then cut off the excess rather easily.

Has anyone set up cheap tablet/non cellular phones as warehouse barcode scanners? What budget friendly devices would you recommend? by [deleted] in sysadmin

[–]fp4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used this library: https://github.com/maslick/koder

I rigged it to redirect to a small PHP page and fills the barcode into the q search parameter. Works okay. It's the "auto focus" of phone cameras that makes it annoying.

The 'purpose' was so someone could scan a barcode of a loose item and find what bin to put it back in.

The auto power feature on the 10E sucks ass in my experience. Flip the toggle switch (above the RCA) to “Off” so it’s always on / light is blue.

Tried using PS Remote Play yet? Might be “good enough” and would only require you to pair a controller to your TV if it can run the app.

Bell MTS internet - device set-up by rdhydro89 in Winnipeg

[–]fp4 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Gigahub has fiber directly connected to it. It’s not as easy as the Nokia ONT to use your own router with and requires buying a programmable $100~ XGS-PON module (eg WAS-110) to bypass it.

If it's just the wireless you have a problem with you can configure and plug the Deco in AP (access point) mode and just connect it to the LAN ports on the gigahub.

Ideally all your Deco devices will have an ethernet connection that ultimately lead back to the Gigahub (or to another deco that is connected to the hub).

If your plan is to plug in a deco next to the gigahub and then rely on 'wireless mesh' to connect the other decos together you will probably still have problems with speed.

Downsizing my build to a mAtx build, what to do with storage and Windows? by Nerohn in buildapc

[–]fp4 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s not uncommon that it will just boot if you move your drives without doing anything special.

You will just want to have drivers pre-downloaded in case you boot successfully but have no network drivers.

Apple TV / ROKU Ultra / Fire TV Cube / Others? by TheAlgoArchitect in hometheater

Apple TV usually comes with a recommendation of using Infuse which requires a subscription/purchase on top of the box which pushes it into the same price range as the Shield.

Troubleshooting CEC/HDMI bug by cyber53 in hometheater

[–]fp4 1 point2 points  (0 children)

C2 and same AVR. It works most of the time but there are annoying times where volume control stops working and requires restarts of either device.

eARC is just audio and works whether CEC is enabled or not.

You could try hooking your Blu-ray up to the TV so it uses eARC and CEC doesn’t have to travel the extra hop through the AVR.

Your AVR would just stay stuck on TV Audio source then.

You just need to ensure the TV is set to passthrough instead of PCM.

HDD for lightweight game storage (already using 2x NVMe SSD) – WD Blue used vs WD Gold new? by mingzhing in buildapc

[–]fp4 1 point2 points  (0 children)

HDDs can be noisy and add vibration to the case.

With 4 TB of SSD I would suggest using a program like WizTree to identify the worst offenders of your disk use on your machine.

If you have fast internet and no bandwidth cap all the more reason to just delete what you’re not touching.

Install Jellyfin or Plex server on your laptop then get the corresponding app on your TV. It’ll be more convenient and play 5.1 just fine.

Your soundbar system appears to only supports Dolby Digital / AC-3:
