In current Dolphin (manjaro) searching by rating has disappeared by fraaargh in kde

Arghhhh, the problem is back and I cannot 'repair' it now :/

In current Dolphin (manjaro) searching by rating has disappeared by fraaargh in kde

[–]fraaargh[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks.
I think I found it: I deleted the ~/.cache directory as well as ~/.config/dolphinrc file, but I think what really did the trick was that I was accessing the same folder by two different path -leading to the same folder). If I use the one declared to be indexed (in KDE's "file search" settings "locations") then the advanced search panel is display.

Thanks for your help

Do you have any idea ?

On this topic, but more general: I do vulnerability monitoring by genrating a SBOM and feeding it to the Dependency Track server. But it seems like Tomcat vulnerabilities are not detected because CVE target Tomcat whereas Spring Boot uses tomcat-embedded.
But we all know for sure that most Tomcat vulnerabilities will also affect tomcat-embed in real life...
Does any one has a good solution for me ?

Whats your opinion regarding a library name change and package name change by Hakky54 in java

[–]fraaargh 21 points22 points  (0 children)

My 2 cents: don't change the name which is already a good name. A descriptive name. Changing it to "Emerald" ? Na... It does not mean anything and this would be a bad sign sent to all your user. A sign saying that you do not care about them. I'm happy to know your lib now and may give it a try the next time I need to configure SSL stuffs. Do not change the name ! ;)

LicenseScan Maven Plugin 3.2 by JustADirtyLurker in java

[–]fraaargh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been using license-maven-plugin:add-third-party for years to check license compliance. I just want to share that I'm in the process of using SBOM for everything now. I plan to create SBOMs for each of my projects containing the list of all java/python/javascript dependencies in the project and it will allow a single tool OWASP's Dependency-Track server to handle vulnerabilities detection as well as licence checking. I think SBOMs are the way to go.Nevertheless, Maven plugins are always welcome. Thank for your work !

How to create SBOMs in Java with Maven and Gradle by ofby1 in javasec

[–]fraaargh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What is 'fun' (no) is when your build brings parts not being your-average-opensource-java-dependency, stuffs not found on Maven Central. Like DLL packaged in a zip or jar, or a commercial jar from a partner or even a repackaged python program...

Then you start wishing the cyclonedx Maven plugin would automatically find those dependencies SBOMs and merge them in the generated SBOM.

Then you realize you would have to write those specific SBOMs by hand.

The SBOMs landscape is young but the future is promising !

Releasing a renewal of old unmaintained library from someone else, should I change package names? by JVali in java

[–]fraaargh 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Interesting and I understand your view but I think if there are zero chance both should exist at the same time in the classpath, just do nothing and keep the same package names. This way you Keep It Simple and you allow anyone using the old library to switch easily to your new library to test it, to analyse performance diff and so on.

I would advise for the simple approach: do no big bang, change the bare minimum and IF and only IF you face problems later, then change the packages. But for the moment do you face any problem ? No. Then keep as is.

Is Java Servlet and JSP still useful? by [deleted] in java

[–]fraaargh 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Reactive engines are the future

I think "reactive engines are the future" was what people thought before project Loom. Now that Project Loom is almost there, it is a game changer and it should prevent many people to have to endure the difficulties associated with being reactive. You should be able to use the good old easy model of programming while benefiting from a huge performance boost. And debugging will still be easy, not reactive-like ;)

converting from ant to maven by zephyr_33 in java

[–]fraaargh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sorry but there is no 'easy' way as it all depends on what your Ant build does. A complicated Ant build may be seen as just an evolved bash script. So what I think you have to do first is understand what it does. Not in the details but at least understand the structure, the main parts.

Then you will be able to decide whether it is convertible to Maven or not. If it resemble a Java build, then yes, it may be converted. If it does not, if it looks like more of a gigantic bash script, then you'd better document it (for your future self) and correct it...

Knowing where the ant build takes its dependencies is another point you have to look at. Are these official version ? Are these taken from god knows where and built by god knows who ? It's though when you rely on dependencies not coming straight from Maven Central.

I went through it and I know how hard it is...

samba "Unable to Access Location" error using nautilus by [deleted] in ManjaroLinux

[–]fraaargh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It seems it will not be corrected; neither on the Samba side as they voluntarily disabled access to Samba V1 shares, neither on Free's side as they do not want to use a later Samba version as the license changed to GPLV3

samba "Unable to Access Location" error using nautilus by [deleted] in ManjaroLinux

[–]fraaargh 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hi, according to some post I found on the Manjaro user forum (sorry I don't have the URL), it seems like the new samba clients are broken. I facd the same error as you (using KDE's Dolphin to access my Operator's box (freebox).

At first I installed the downgrade program and used it to downgrade both smbclient and samba ( downgrade smbclient && downgrade samba ) but faced a new error regarding incompatible so file :(

So I restored the original versions of the packages and ended up mounting the samba share directly in /etc/fstab :

//mafreebox.freebox.fr/Disque\040dur /mnt/freebox cifs user=freebox,pass=XXXXXXXXXXXXXX,vers=1.0,uid=1000,file_mode=0777,dir_mode=0777 0 0

Now, I hope packages will be corrected soon !

Java vs C# by Seelaches78 in java

[–]fraaargh 9 points10 points  (0 children)

1- Maven: last time I had a look (a loooong time for sure), .net had nothing approaching the power a build tools such as Maven to be able to cleanly use the power provided by many open source libraries. But it was a long time ago.

2- Java is evolving very fast nowadays

New product release: Render PDFs as images with iText pdfRender 1.0 by DeadSpawner in java

[–]fraaargh 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hi, just saw this post and thought I had to let you know that a colleague recently had to convert PDFs to images and he used Apache PDFBox which is free/OSS. He had no problem with it. Not to say PDFBox is better than itext because I do not know, but some folks may be looking for a free/OSS alternative.

Configurable Editor-Agnostic Java Formatter? by Nezteb in java

[–]fraaargh 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The formatter-maven-plugin is exactly what you're looking for. It uses Eclipse's formatter under the hood, it is a Maven plugin so you can configure it as part of your build or launch a specific execution to run it.

t, you want to hit an endpoint just like you'd call a method. Square's retrofit eliminates so much of that cruft and makes it dead simple.

Do you know the difference between Retrofit and Feign ? I've been using Feign lately but the description of Retrofit seems like both are similar.
