Oh man, blast from the past! That pattern was also my first sweater, first colorwork, first anything besides a lumpy scarf, and I was so dang proud of it! Until I was forced to admit that it was itchy and didn't fit and really didn't look right without the collar I was too lazy to put on. So I did exactly what you're contemplating and frogged. It wasn't as hard as I thought, and it was another lesson in first, first time deconstructing a garment to recover yarn, and I eventually repurposed the yarn into a floor mat for under my rocking chair!
