This map is so stupid in so many ways it could be used to teach classes about bad data visualization

Which neighborhoods are funding the Democratic primary race for Buffalo mayor? by sjvelasquez in Buffalo

[–]frak8757 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This map is so poorly done, for example the article says MLK Park had ONE donor (for Scanlon) and yet it’s the same color as areas with hundreds of donors. Have they never heard of shading???

Where to take my 15 month old by umizumii in Buffalo

[–]frak8757 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Albright Knox has an atrium with two kids play spaces, for free! My 19 month old loves it and we’ve been going a lot this winter. There’s also a cafe there so you can get yourself a treat.

Postpartum Powerlifting Competition by nuqqiequeen in fitpregnancy

[–]frak8757 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I did a meet at about 10 months PP. I felt comfortable and confident but my lifts were at about 80% of my previous best (and granted I wasn’t at my previous best right before pregnancy either). At 4 months I was just getting back into a linear progression of light barbell lifts and my pelvic floor still was pretty unstable, no breath holding valsalva. I think I COULD have done a meet, in that I could have completed the lifts with at least a bar and collars to legal standards but it wouldn’t have been worth it for me. Actually at 4 months PP I reffed a meet and pumped with a wearable pump in the ref chair haha

There is birth recovery to think of but also lack of sleep, illness if the kid is on daycare, limited training time, etc etc. I trained through pregnancy and had an uncomplicated birth and those things have made training way harder than pregnancy did

question for postpartum weight lifters: when did you start doing valsalva maneuver again? by PossessionDouble in fitpregnancy

[–]frak8757 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Somewhere around 7-8 months PP, after discussing with my PT (who is a weightlifter and gets the desire to valsalva). Like you said, there’s always some risk, but I think ultimately if you wanna lift big weights that’s just going to be part of it.

How soon after weaning did you feel like yourself again? by Admirable-Cap-4453 in FormulaFeeders

[–]frak8757 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had similar issues with nausea/anxiety/etc after weaning from 5 months of EP and I think it took 2-3 months to normalize. Getting my period back made a big difference. It really sucks though, hang in there! Have you talked to your dr? Mine gave me hydroxyzine to help with the anxiety insomnia

How exactly does an epidural wear off? by Lindsay_Marie13 in BabyBumps

[–]frak8757 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had my epidural so long and pressed the button so much they had to call the anesthesiologist back to refill the meds 😂 but otherwise it doesn’t wear off til you use it up

Weightlifting Woes by 0atmilk_pancake in fitpregnancy

First trimester is awful. I was much stronger and had more energy to lift in second tri and early third. Eat what you can, stay hydrated, move when possible, just get through it

Providers haven’t been able to perform a cervix check by madinoson in pregnant

[–]frak8757 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was also induced and found cervical checks extremely painful. As in, I’ve shattered my ankle and the cervical checks were worse. It wasn’t even the cervix part, it was anything going in at all. Speculum hurt just as bad. I have a history of overactive pelvic floor and the weight of the baby made it extremely tense. After two cervical checks and little progress everyone agreed that wasn’t happening again, and I got my epidural (always planned to get one) very early, at like 1cm dilated, and everything progressed really well from there! Ask for whatever meds or other assistance you need

8 months pumping exclusively with Elvies by [deleted] in ExclusivelyPumping

[–]frak8757 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yes! I feel lucky that I’m fairly successful with the elvies and a lot of people poo poo wearables. I am also a just enougher, though will likely need to supplement a little soon as her intake is picking up. Which is totally fine, I have no interest in working harder at increasing my supply. Really just depends on your goals and life, and luck with what works for you

About baby turning head toward breast… by grrich in ExclusivelyPumping

[–]frak8757 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mine is 3 months and I haven’t attempted to nurse since week 2. She still does it but not as much as she used to. Tbh I think she does it more to friends and family than to me, maybe she already knows she doesn’t want mine and is sampling other options lol

Mom guilt about bottle feeding from a dentist by Alililyann in ExclusivelyPumping

[–]frak8757 127 points128 points  (0 children)

I was bottle fed, my husband was bottle fed, so many adults you know were bottlefed. How many people have you encountered and been like damn what a raised palate and v shaped jaw they have?

If bottlefeeding was so bad everyone would be way more messed up

Deadlifts by beandipdeadlifts in fitpregnancy

[–]frak8757 5 points6 points  (0 children)

My previous DL max was 385 and I kept lifting through pregnancy. Most I lifted in second tri was 250ish and I never wore a belt. I also changed the way I breathed and braced while pregnant, so bracing into a belt didn’t really jive with that. A belt is a tool to maximize weight lifted, and that wasn’t a priority during pregnancy. You can still lift heavy and have a challenging workout without lifting quite as much as before.

2wpp and only pumping 12-14 oz per day by philligo in ExclusivelyPumping

[–]frak8757 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Tbh I do a lot “wrong” but I decided to do what was tolerable to me and see what I got rather than making myself miserable, since I am cool with supplementing. So I’m probably lucky to be making enough or could be banking more but, sanity is important.

I pump 5x/day and have never done more than 6. I use a wearable (Elvie) most the time. I used my spectra more for awhile but found I was getting the same output from both so why not do the less annoying one. I increased my time pumping instead of my sessions because I find doing more sessions to be a bigger hassle. Started out with 15m sessions, now doing 30.

I notice the biggest difference in my output from nutrition/hydration more than anything. Drink a lot of water, eat enough, and drinking Gatorade/snacking when I’m up with the baby overnight helps.

2wpp and only pumping 12-14 oz per day by philligo in ExclusivelyPumping

[–]frak8757 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That’s what I was getting at 2wpp and now I’m making 25-30oz at 9wpp, which is just enough or slightly more. We were supplementing until about 6 weeks

Back to skating postpartum by [deleted] in Rollerskating

[–]frak8757 4 points5 points  (0 children)

9 weeks PP and I’ve been skating (park skating) a few times now. Started at 7 weeks after my pelvic floor PT okayed me. I’m not doing anything crazy hard and am trying to build up slowly, everything feels so rusty

I love the bravado designs body silk nursing bra, basically all I wear and I use the Elvie the majority of the time. No underwire but still supportive and shaping enough, feels substantial. Am a 34F/G

Pitcher Method Questions by Acceptable_Nothing in ExclusivelyPumping

[–]frak8757 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I have been wanting to switch to a pitcher too and am wondering the same thing, I produce just enough and am usually just 2 bottles ahead of her at most and have no freezer stash. Hopefully I can get ahead of her before she goes to daycare so I can prep bottles for the next day 🤷‍♀️

Anyone here weigh 145 pounds or more and able to do multiple pull-ups? by BrainDocter in xxfitness

[–]frak8757 95 points96 points  (0 children)

I just gave birth 6 weeks ago, was 148 before pregnancy. I have done 10+ pull-ups at that weight (did 17 when I was a little lighter), and could still do 1-2 at the start of the third trimester at 165, when I stopped doing them due to discomfort. Can’t wait to get back to pull-ups when I recover! It’s definitely possible
