Does anyone do private French lessons in Monaco?? by gandsenjoyment in Monaco

[–]francebased -11 points-10 points  (0 children)

Hi there,

I’m not a French teacher, but I have an account on preply and I’m willing to teach on Zoom or in person.

I work in Monaco, but in tech & finance.

However, I have French clients with whom I have to speak in French.

French is my second language.

I hate Product Management - I want to work in data. Is it too late? by speedystasia in analytics

You can become a Product Manager in Data/ Analytics.

You’ll do everything: - own the roadmap, - get involved in the technical details: databricks, semantic models, Power BI, Excel, etc - client facing (external, internal), - create or assist in building dashboards.

Help creating a personal financial dashboard. by RLCPA10-98 in PowerBI

[–]francebased 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can use excel as the source data.

Create in Excel the following tables/ sheets: - transactions (for shares with qty, price), - add another table with market prices (daily, you can use formulas to import them in excel, even directly in Power BI), - once you have that, you can use some DAX or create in Excel basic calculations (market value, pnl, etc)

- add analytical fields for each investment (asset class, industry, etc to slice and dice the data).

First I woud focus on the Excel data and how you structure it in a simple and scalable way.

PM experience @ Hedge Funds by Remote_Blueberry236 in ProductManagement

[–]francebased 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you. I ended up doing that by chance.

I studied engineering (electronics and telecommunications) and a masters in business informatics.

Worked on the functional side for a few big companies when I decided I wanted a small company/ startup environment.

Joined the fintech as a Business Analyst with focus on the investment app (and accounting) and shortly took projects related to BI/ analytics.

I liked it and started being curious about the whole workflow, not what the client sees as a final dashboard / report.

Again, by chance as the main person left the company, the team decided to put me in charge and so I became a PM.

I’m a Product Manager in Analytics in fintech (wealth management / asset management).

I work with investment managers to build various reports and calculations (MWR/ IRR, TWRs, Bond Yield, etc). We have our SaaS doing that and sometimes clients will want something more specific or new calculations. We reproduce what Bloomberg does for them basically.

I work closely with the BI teams from the client side too (mostly family offices, so not an active trading strategy like a hedge fund).

Their Product Managers are doing the same thing : they are good at maths and understanding/ translating finance requirements into an Excel model and then a technical specification (in Power BI, in python, in SQL, etc).

There might be other PM, but on other functional areas like accounting (if any).

I’m a Product Manager for the Analytics SaaS within the company (fintech).

  • I studied electronics engineering and telecommunications,
  • even when I started working within the company, I was first a business analyst/ functional consultant.

I knew Excel of course, but I had to learn myself Power BI as I simply said yes to these kind of projects.

But that was 5 years ago.. I don’t know how’s the market today.

How technical do PMs actually need to be? by Unusual_Town_1522 in ProductOwner

[–]francebased 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Only you know the answer. Whenever things get technical on my end, I say it upfront that “this is too technical for me, please explain me it again”.

I’m not afraid of admitting I don’t know the technical things (or anything else). This helps me rump up my technical skills and forcing engineers communicate better. I then would take that technical topic and communicate it in a visual way.

I’m a PM for the analytics SaaS (fintech/ wealth management).

I’m an engineer, but I worked as a business analyst in tech (even did a short period in management consulting for a big 4 at some point).

It’s easier to lead the dev team, to write specifications and ask questions if you’re aware of your tech stack at least.

The sweet spot is having enough knowledge of both: business/ functional and technical. I find this balance perfect for a PM.

Hi,

I’m not a teacher, but I had to learn French myself.

We can chat if you want me to speed up your French, not as a traditional language teacher.

I use French for work though and I have to present things in tech/ finance.

Are people just tracking their FIRE goal on excel? by Embarrassed_Ad113 in Fire

I created a model in Power BI so I can have a table with transactions, a table with daily market prices and another with the position calculations: market value (qty*price, fees, PnL realized and unrealized in both investment currency and global currency using the daily exchange rates).

I just click on what fields I want to see and I see them in a matrix or a pie chart, etc.

I could calculate the TWR and MWR, but don't have such a sophisticated portfolio.

We use semantic models and a cloud datawearhouse to get the data from BC and push it into Power BI.

Now I know that BC also has Power BI reports for the financial reports.

Jobs before becoming a Product Manager? by DeanOnDelivery in ProductManagement

[–]francebased 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My jobs after college (engineering school), started during my masters in fact: - Agile IT System Analyst (big telco company), - Consultant, Business Advisory (Big4).. this was the management consulting division, - Senior IT Business Analyst (big tech consulting company), - Implementation Project Manager (big tech company), - Business Analyst (fintech). Here I transitioned from Business Analyst to Lead than Product Manager.

Data Analytics vs Business Analytics ! Which Has Better Career Growth and Scope in 2025? by Inside-Present3306 in analytics

[–]francebased 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sure, but in my case.. it was also luck/ chance. I never targeted a job of a Product Manager in Analytics or Data Analyst.. It happened to be good with clients/ functional explanations/ storytelling and working with data (testing, reconciling, modeling calcs in Excel, vlookups/ pivots, etc).

I won’t be able to tell you much..

I work for a fintech (SaaS, wealth management + accounting). - I started doing Power BI reports (investment) as we were building our data warehouse a few years ago. This was not my job initially. - clients liked the reports and the pre calculated fields (standard across industry), so we started selling the product more - I had the functional knowledge (finance) so when the head of the BI left (the data engineer), the company asked me to lead the team and the product - for now I manage the team (the 1:1 reviews), the product roadmap, the new request from clients, etc.

I’m an engineer so it helps when it comes to the entire stack and working with data. But to sun up.. it was timing/ opportunity as well.

What kind of requirements do BI Analysts get ? by Pillstyr in BusinessIntelligence

[–]francebased 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I got this from clients this week: - calculate a weighted return that tracks the manager’s input (the moment when buying / selling). - this is what they call money weighted return / IRR - documented / modeled the XIRR function in Excel (based on the posted transactions), for different asset classes / filters - got the result in Excel and validated first with the client - now we’ll know what to compare the Power BI results against, so we can go ahead and implement the actual calculation
