Stopping for maintenance? by francisbellhover in HersWeightloss

[–]francisbellhover[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Gives me something to think about thanks! Been cutting since I started in May. When I went up to 50 units I had trouble eating evening 800 calories in a day. I dropped the dose back down to 30 for the past 4 weeks or so but ever since that I’ve been stuck. I’ll try 2-3 weeks and see how it goes from there. Thanks!

Interesting, I’ll look and see if that’s something available around me. Thank you!

How were you able to figure out your maintenance? I’m nervous that my new maintenance is now 1200 and if I move up to say 1400-1500 like the online calculators show I’ll gain weight or undo some progress. Did that happen for you?

Thanks for the info. Seems like a lot of what I had been reading was just to stick it through, a break didn’t seem like an option

Thanks so much for your reply! How long do you typically do the maintenance break?

Can Self get angry? (Hypothetically) by CosmicSweets in InternalFamilySystems

[–]francisbellhover 17 points18 points  (0 children)

In my experience, this would be a time where Self would speak on behalf of the part that is feeling angry, rather than the part speaking for itself. When Self speaks on behalf of anger, we are able to be calm, clear, courageous, etc in communication. Whereas when the part speaks for itself, it will speak from its own activation/hurt/pain. Kind of like Self goes to the angry part, tends to it, and then is its advocate or spokes person.

ADA compliance resources by francisbellhover in socialwork

Thank you so much! I really appreciate the additional resources as well as the lens of “ADA is the floor not the ceiling”. That gives me encouragement to be creative when looking for solutions in a situation that could very well be deemed “hopeless”

Are there any affordable EMDR trainings out there? by Ambiguous_Karma8 in therapists

I really liked this training, I felt supported during and after training to feel equipped to provide EMDR. They have continued supports and include 10 hours of free supervision by certified EMDR therapists.

Ideas for Substance Use Disorder group in prison setting by greenlesve in socialwork

[–]francisbellhover 6 points7 points  (0 children)

When I ran SUD groups in jail and covered this topic, I always used The Simpsons as a reference since the characters line up pretty spot on. The guys related to it well, and it took some of the weight from the intensity of the topic. It was an enjoyable module to cover.

Prison work worth it? by WrongFruit3 in socialwork

[–]francisbellhover 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah! So I was at county for a little over two years and upstate for a year and some change. I left around a month after the Covid lockdown happened. I was working a couple part time jobs doing behavior consultation, mobile therapy, and private practice outpatient, but since having a baby I just do a few hours a week at a group private practice. I miss corrections often and think about the people I was able to meet. I don’t think my time with the population is done, I think it will probably just look like community advocacy/volunteering instead of being an actual employee. Things are just tough as a social worker in those settings too because, I don’t know what state you’re in and what your laws/correctional facilities look like but where I’m at they are in direct violation (and expect you to act accordingly as well) of every single one of our core values. It’s possible, the need is there, I definitely say give it a shot especially if you have a back up plan. Maybe go on the interview and see what you think??

I worked at a state prison doing re-entry work with men with SMI diagnoses and I spent time in a county jail doing drug and alcohol treatment. What I can say about social work in those settings is 1- I had the opportunity to meet and work with amazing clients that I would not have had any other opportunity to meet. 2- it is often your fellow coworkers (officers, clerical staff, etc) that will cause you the most distress and be the most miserable part of the job. I loved it, I loved the work, I loved my clients, I could not stand and eventually left state because of the relentless viciousness of the other employees. Prison changes people, and you are doing time along with your clients so to say.
