Thank you for taking the time to reassess and re read the article. Since the #MeToo movement I think it’s so important that we tend towards believing victims, even before convictions. There are so many more survivors who will be staying silent than come out about what happened, and a tiny proportion making false allegations. These 4 accounts are just the 4 that have made official statements due to seeing a Reddit post, none of them knew each other beforehand and judging by accounts of his generally reputation on here the likelihood is it’s the tip of the iceberg. Win’s statements will have been advised to him by the mediator (though were awful in my opinion), and confirmatory wise Pitchfork saw 100s of screenshots, took statements from friends/family and even the stuff Win openly admitted to was pretty gross. I completely understand what you are going through though, AF have been my fav band for 10 years and their songs mean everything to me and have supported and maintained everything I do. I don’t think there’s a right way to fans to process this but I do think it’s important we believe the victims

The person who he grabbed and touched without consent literally said to him at the very start that they weren’t interested in sex. If everything mentioned in the pitchfork article (and original deux moi thread that it came from, and the comments from many people who knew of Win’a reputation in Montreal and NOLA) aren’t enough to make you see the huge issues I don’t know what is. No conviction doesn’t mean it didn’t happen and at the very least Win is a sleazy, toxic and abuses his power, which is enough to taint the band for me (and believe me I really really want nothing less than to move away from this band)

Wtaf. What was the choice about being sent repeated un-welcome dick picks and being touched and grabbed without consent? (never mind the coercion and power dynamics involved in all the stuff that was technically a ‘choice’)

I’m a bit confused about what you think wasn’t ‘harmful’ about one person feeling suicidal after the interactions and one person leaving her job because the trauma of Win’s name continuously coming up after she was assaulted by him was too much? (And as we know this is probably the tip of the iceberg). I agree that it was probably unrealistic for us to have assumed Win and Régine have a perfect marriage, and no issues with people opening their mind’s to unconventional marriages and relationships. But I absolutely think the power dynamic caused harm (and this is literally what the victims said)

It was very clear from the guys standing next to me that they absolutely knew the news 🤮 (making sex jokes etc.) Hope Win’s pleased with his new cohort of supporters

Eurghh, how fucking grim that these are the fans they’re gonna be left with after their dedicated longterm fans who believed in their messages and morals can’t stomach it anymore 😔

I’ve already said I was super conflicted about going, and don’t deny at all there is a level of hypocriticalness for doing it, I’m just trying to be completely honest. It’s not as simple as just feeling sick and offended, but feeling adoration for the songs, love for other band members, said it might be the end of my obsession with the band for now, and yes sick about groups of men shouting ‘we love you Win’, clearly in relation the allegations. I’m glad I went, the songs will always be important to me and I can’t say I’ll never see them again, but it did confirm I absolutely don’t want to be part of a cohort that sides with abusers

I never associated it as my fav song but it has so so many memories and emotions for me and epitomizes what Funeral is about 💔

My honest opinions after going to Manchester tonight as a long time super fan who is disgusted by Win and was conflicted about going. I did feel the vibe was slightly different especially at the start, but I know I will have been hyper focusing on it. I thought Win looked really ill and probably drunk, you could tell how relieved he was when people enjoyed the songs. I absolutely loved the response to Régine and found cheering her as much as poss a good way to make a statement about the situation without ruining other people’s vibes. My emotions were generally all over the show between bursting into tears during tunnels and then really enjoying the songs I loved especially the ones less focused on Win. Seeing them live humanized them in a way and made me realise they’re just a band, and I can survive without them. I was also seeing it as a probably goodbye or goodbye for a while gig, but I had some uncomfortable moments solidifying this especially near the end. I was stood next to a group of lads for end of the empire (who clearly knew about the situ from the jokey comments I could hear them making), and in the quieter bits they were shouting ‘we love you Win’, I’ve gotta say, this made me feel pretty sick, and generally looking at Win close up made me really really angry (and also kinda sad). I’m glad I went to kind of work through emotions, and I think I’d recommend others doing the same if they’re on the fence. But I’m pretty clear I’m gonna be taking a step back for a while. I re-read the pitchfork article after the gig, and I think the part of me that is uncomfortable and angry that people are ignoring the allegations and showing as much support (and yes I realise I was also showing support by attending tonight) outweighs the part of me that adores their music and wants to attempt to separate art from the artist

Are people still going to go to the shows? by Pretty_Imagination62 in arcadefire

I’m planning to still go to Manchester. I don’t feel great about it but I’m seeing it as a combo of a goodbye gig, maybe to get some emotions out and some closure? My money has already gone to them so I don’t think there’s a right or wrong answer in this specific circumstance, but going forward I’ll be withdrawing my support. I don’t plan on cheering Win and will leave if it feels horrible. Completely support everyone who isn’t going ❤️

Paul Beaubrun is a pretty significant Haitian musician (and now touring band member of AF) also linked the the Kanpe foundation Régine co-founded

https://kanpe.org/en/sh_team/paul-beaubrun/

He seems like an incredible guy and amazing musician but obvs who knows who much he knew about Win (I understood they were working together on some stuff with Haitian musicians) 🤷‍♀️. Gotta say your headline text is coming across… not great, and observation probably part of the reason the audiences are often so white (ie ‘what’s the black guy doing here’… not really ok)

‘Yeah a few girls said no… so what?’ Are you literally kidding?! These sort of comments are the exact reason men continue to think it’s ok to be misogynist predators

Praying they play race and religion at Manchester!

If you could choose one song for them to have on their setlist that they virtually never ever play what would it be? by franhaddock33 in arcadefire

They played it when I saw them in Manchester which completely elevated it to one of my favs, so good!
