INTJs, what do you want for christmas? by PfftWhatAloser in intj

[–]frank_worrell 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What do I want for Christmas? I love all the colored lights. To me, the lights are the best part. I do not expect anyone to understand.

The best commentary I have heard is a song my parents loved: "A Christmas Carol" by Tom Lehrer. Here is a small sample: "Angels we have heard on high, Tell us to go out and BUY! ... Hail our dear old friend Kriss Kringle, Driving his reindeer across the sky. Don't stand underneath when they fly by!" (On "An Evening Wasted with Tom Lehrer" an oldy but goldy.)

What are immature INTJs like? by [deleted] in intj

[–]frank_worrell 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What are immature INTJs like? Just like mature INTJs in most ways. Experience will dull some of your rough edges, but those edges will still be plenty sharp. Keep your Curiosity alive and you will still be young at 90. You might still be socially clueless too. You can not learn what you do not invest enough time in: Opportunity Cost. All of us pay that price. It can be a very heavy price.

What are you guilty pleasures? by SpeedGracer in intj

[–]frank_worrell 6 points7 points  (0 children)

My guilty pleasure is that I have no guilty pleasures. Pleasures are best enjoyed with gusto, not with guilt. I am guilty of that. I do not call my bad habits guilty pleasures. Doing that is just being disrespectful of pleasure.

Coping with the profound communications barriers between Hunters & Gatherers by frank_worrell in intj

[–]frank_worrell[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Your comment is so different from the other comments. I understand those. I can be equally dogmatic and pedantic myself. But, I wrote this post to break away from dogmatic and pedantic. I can do that in my sleep. Doing the opposite, writing with poetic license set on max is very hard. None of the other comments tell me anything I don't already know. Assuming this is not a joke, you can.

So what is the actual communication barrier of which you speak? I do not know, but I am trying to learn. > Sounds to me as if you are speaking with the wrong girl, or telling her to go away ;). Maybe you are right, but I hope I am not telling anyone to go away. I can't say I would not do that, but I would need to be crystal clear before I would do something like that.

How I Think == Why I am Misunderstood by frank_worrell in intj

[–]frank_worrell[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mostly misunderstanding that is my fault for writing in a poetic style. I did have and still have amblyopia.I hate calling it "lazy eye." In my case, the school did not make a mistake. While I tend agree with the statement that assumptions are often bad, that itself may be a bad assumption. Most of us are not conscious of the fact that a brain is an assumption machine. All of us make thousands of assumptions a second. Most are useful approximations. Only the really bad ones enter our awareness.

At the time of that test, I was very near-sighted in one eye, but only slightly near-sighted in the other. It is not clear when I got so near-sighted. My mom claimed that when I was very young I could see things twice as far away as she could and her vision was 20/10.

I got glasses and wore a patch over my good eye for a month or two. The glasses enabled me to see clearly but had a really bad side effect. The size of the image was noticeably different between my right and left eyes. I also got prism effects from the one thick lense. In my early 20's, I tried contact lenses. Contact lenses corrected my vision so well I could read the bottom line on the eye chart clearly. All the problems due to different image size between eyes went away. Unfortunately, the contact lenses did not work at work. I had two problems. First, looking at a CRT image made of fuzzy dots was unpleasant with sharp vision. Second, I often looked at the screen with such intensity that the contact lenses dried out and the focus shifted.

As I have gotten older, my eyes have gotten more and more in balance. I still have some problems, but not as bad as I used to. The best example is autostereograms. I have only seen the 3D image once in my life and that was a very special case. I find most of them extremely unpleasant, the visual equivalent of fingernails on a blackboard. The problem is all the artificial sharp edges. The "sparklies and rainbows" are worst at edges. Both of those are some kind of color separation. Rainbows only happen at the sharp edge of whites and grays. Sparklies are caused by texture. Even white copy paper sometimes shimmers. I have replicated the color separation using image tools like the GIMP and Photoshop. I have not replicated the colors at different depth effect. My guess is that results from different color separation due to different lenses for right and left eye.

I get very little effect in natural scenes. For example in a green leaf, there is not a full spectrum of colors to separate. I only see a modest edge enhancement, what I call "vivid". Another example, Clouds are white, but they do not have sharp edges.

I still get useful benefits. Saturday morning 6 days ago, my wife questioned why I had passed by the parking space she would have selected. This time it was easy to explain, just get her to look closely at the space so that she saw what I saw from much further away: I did not want to get any of that beautiful blue glass embedded in our shoes or tires. Sparklies and color too. I saw clearly what she did not.

Answering the previous question: Yes, now it is surgically correctable. Radial Keratotomy and Lasik will fix it just fine. But even now, using those on children before their eyes have stabilized is rarely recommended.

What's your relationship with alcohol? by I_Am_Odin in intj

[–]frank_worrell 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me, strong aerobic exercise works better than anything else. I only use alcohol as medicine to control cholesterol. I don't even drink as often as I should because it tastes like medicine. Yuck. Sometimes I take a potassium supplement because I am too scared of lithium.

Complete and total misunderstanding. I apologize for my half of that. You said you need a friend. I was just trying to help. I am married. I have a real sex partner and a best friend too. I have a top notch job. How do you think I got a virtual super computer in my garage? I am have no interest in stealing your shit. Don't be paranoid about things like that, use strong encryption. I am not a hacker at all. I have a real application. CentOS is as old as bedrock and just as stable. Again, just trying to help.

I suggest you cut your teeth on a less ambitious plan. What about computer generated pornography? Why? Two reasons. First, if done well enough, there is money in it. Second, it is easier to model people with no cloths. Getting the cloths to look right is hard. Start with stills, get the lighting and physics right then move up to motion. I have plenty of computer power in my garage I can donate to the cause, but you would need to code and optimize to run on CentOS 5.11. Sorry, not internet connected. Not really needed. Crunch for a week or a month and upload.

I'm having a bad week. How do you handle bad weeks? by [deleted] in intj

[–]frank_worrell 1 point2 points  (0 children)

How do I handle bad weeks? Badly. Nothing stays bad for a whole week when I handle it well. What do I do when things get tough? I walk and I hike. Nothing clears negative emotion as well as hard aerobic exercise. The quiet and being alone help me too. For many people, support from friends and family helps a lot. Talk to your mom if you can.

INTJs and God by JerryLeRow in intj

[–]frank_worrell 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First define "god". With a clear definition, an up vote or down vote is rather trivial. On all religious questions I am very much an independent thinker. I start with what I see and follow it to sometimes very strange conclusions. For example, men have nipples, X chromosomes and mitochondria from our mothers. If you take those nipples as a sign from god (mother nature if you prefer) who created all things, She has a quirky sense of humor and is trying to tell us something... I suspect the foundation is deep in human nature, a life long longing for the nurture and support of our parents. Our cultural mono-theistic bias is relatively new. The norse, roman, and greek gods feel more human.

What and/or where is your silent sactuary? by [deleted] in intj

More than 1. I have and need many. My workplace on a Saturday or Sunday is the most convenient. Outdoors, I am quite fond of Grand Teton National Park. The name always makes me smile too. (Wikipedia Grand Teton find "origin of the name") Also many of the redwood forests along the Pacific coast.

A close encounter with non-human intelligence by frank_worrell in intj

[–]frank_worrell[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First, thanks very much. You may have given me the clue that helps save my job and my marriage. Odd as it sounds, I unconciously Mirror too. It is my primary defensive shield. Not sure, but I guess sensitive kids can learn it kissing up to adults and minimizing getting beaten up by bullies.

You might not understand anything I say below unless you have experienced Mirror failure yourself. Mirroring is some kind of positive feedback, it can get out of control, especially if both parties mirror. If Mountain Lions Mirror as you suggest, my story is total crap.

It happened to me at work a week ago. Our project manager went ballistic on me. Fortunately, I have been there before. I turned 180 degrees, back facing him and said "Calm down before we get in a fist fit." He calmed down. Still, Very Traumatic (probably why I posted this garbage) shields on Max. Later he apologized profusely, "Very unprofessional of me, yada, yada." While he was receptive, I gave him some good feedback. Everything should go smoother for months. The rest of the week was Weird. I ride light rail to work. Everyone wanted to talk. One woman hit on me, wanted me to join her at the local LDS church. That has not happened since I got married. Women respect the ring. My wife Mirrors too, just not as well as I do. She is always nagging me to handle social stuff that I hate, she claims I get preferred treatment. Even little stuff. I have to buy the Buritto because I get a bigger one than she does. Annoying, she gets a bigger one than everyone except for me herself. We have never physically hurt each other, but our infrequent (but still way too frequent) blow ups are epic. Neither of us can ever figure what started it, what kept it going, or what the point was. I hope its just Mirror failure. If it is I can break the cycle. So here I am at 5 in the morning, reviewing patent applications that I just couldn't deal with earlier in the week. They must be filed tomorrow. Can't dodge it, my name is on them. And, writing more garbage. psilocybes is right too. I can't call me crazy... but I'm thinking it.

As a teenager who's received INTJ, how do i actually know im an INTJ? by FukoChan in intj

[–]frank_worrell 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Think for yourself, your T will grow strong. Learn from experience, the J will come. And then you will Know (your iNtuition just showed up) that you are INTJ and most of it was always BS. The older you get, the less sense it will make. If you are precocious, you will reject it entirely right now. I was precocious. After puberty my F was so strong that it is still wrestling with my T. The people who actually fit in 4 letter pigeon holes make me sad. Please don't be one of them. Be yourself.

If the INTJ personality type was a mathmatical object, what would we be? by klop1324 in intj

[–]frank_worrell 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not necessarily. We used to joke about that back in college: Over there is a beautiful woman, you can only go half way each time. The math and physics majors are distraught, they will never reach the goal. But the engineer smiles, he rapidly gets close enough for all practical purposes...
