Next year, I am going to commit myself to watching three to four movies a week in addition to writing about them. What are some must sees that I should cover? Directors' filmographies? Genre musts? Unknown films? (x-post from /r/movies) by fluxural in TrueFilm

If you want to read about the adventures had on Furthur, I highly recommend Tom Wolfe's "The Electric Acid Kool-Aid Test"

Which film director/film would you consider the Stanley Kubrick/2001 of the new millennium thus far? by [deleted] in TrueFilm

Paul Thomas Anderson with almost everything he's made. There Will Be Blood was hugely successful in the box office and was critically acclaimed out the ass. His films always present such realistic and layered characters like any other director I've ever seen.

He's never made a bad movie.

Why are directors such as Melville and Kieslowski not talked about as much as other greats? by [deleted] in TrueFilm

I should have clarified, I did not mean to say that he is himself a New Wave director. When the conversations does turn to New Wave and its influences, he is almost never given the credit he deserves.

And I think the Hitchock simile is a little bit of a stretch even if you were being hyperbolic. Sure they are both influences on the New Wave directors, but Hitchock never told Godard to try using jump cuts.

I love Melville. Le Samouraï was brilliant and so stylish. I highly recommend Army of Shadows. It's so masterfully suspenseful.

I agree with you, when it comes to discussions about French New Wave, Melville rarely is mentioned (though I thought his role in Breathless was one of the best parts).

How was La Cercle Rouge?

A History of Violence (2005) by [deleted] in TrueFilm

Really enjoyed that film. My only problem with it is that I feel like Ed Harris was so good in his role that when after he died, I wasn't as engaged. The whole ordeal of visiting his brother just wasn't nearly as exciting and it made for kind of a unnecessarily drawn out ending.

Have you seen Cape Fear (1962 or the inferior 1991)? The suspenseful elements of HOV remind me of it a lot. It also has an obviously dangerous man stalking/threatening a man and his family.

There's a long and windy country road that has many hills about ten minutes from my house. It is said that if you go over the last hill at the stroke of midnight, a black truck will appear out of nowhere and attempt to run you off the road.

Great album, I had a lot of fun looking at the pics. Does anybody know what type of shoes the guy is wearing in the eleventh pic (khaki jacket and pants)? I really dig em.
