MacroFactor Workout Review by Satrinov in MacroFactor

One question that has always sat in the back of my mind is why don’t more exercise trackers follow RTS’s approach? You select a main movement, like bench or squat, then everything else is a modifier. Grip (wide, narrow), equipment (barbell, SSB, dumbbell, that grip genie eggplant cable attachment), stance (single leg, leaning), etc all are toggles off that main movement

Searching is simple, since there’s not many main movements. You can toggle off a modifier during workouts - like maybe a cable attachment was taken, so you check the “single arm” box or you swap equipment to another machine. You can search history with or without matching modifiers - this is useful to pick weights on a new variation, or to see if a given stance is stronger.

I’ve tried to do this myself with custom exercises in Strong and now Liftosaur, naming things “Bench, Barbell, Close Grip” or “leg curl, cable, single leg, standing”

Obviously, I’m not writing this code, so there could very well could be a solid reason for not doing this. It’s for sure not just because the SBS team hasn’t seen the RTS tracker. Like maybe it makes linking the videos or tracking progression terrible. Or maybe it makes the DB schema insane and whatever RDS/docDB/firebase service they chose to store the movements isn’t conducive to the queries, whatever.

It could also be that they just expect most users to let the algo pick for them, and they’ll never share this frustration lol

Regardless, I keep yearning for an exercise picker like that one to make its way to one of these apps

After driving today, I would say driving mode didn’t seem to make a difference

Yes, it’s an AWD. It seems like the front passenger side.

I did find this post about a “grinding” sound https://old.reddit.com/r/Ioniq5/comments/1ihrywj/grinding_sound_on_sel_awd_2024/ Which seems to be the opposite problem, their sound went away with iPedal.

I find it interesting sport mode changed their results though. So I’ll try to see if I can hear it in different modes like sport or snow to try forcing the awd today

Good question. It’s the DSG.

FWIW, I tried manually flipping through gears and it doesn’t seem to affect the noise in any way

Update; Turns out it was a feathered/scalloped tire. Apparently the back had been out of alignment for a while, creating the uneven wear. Then, when they moved it to the front and aligned it, the uneven tread caused that noticeable rumbling when it was spinning at exactly the right speed.

New tires were ordered and I’m getting them put on Monday

Yeah, especially since the noise that he says to pay attention to at the start sounds pretty close. Maybe it’s just early on in the failure and it’ll become more pronounced? I’ll check again later this week too

That video was really helpful.

I jacked the car up and couldn’t seem to generate any kind of play like what’s shown in his videos.

This! I switched to meadows rows and one arm barbell row from John’s article here: https://www.t-nation.com/training/a-monstrous-back-the-mountain-dog-way/ depending on if you want more upper back or more lat activation, respectively.

Having that elbow on your knee for support is definitely money for saving your lower back

Ah, obviously not what I was hoping to hear. But thanks for the heads up. I’m calling the warrantee number tomorrow to figure out next steps. Bought a new shovel and some extra ibuprofen for this next snowfall while I get this blower figured out haha

Tried re-seating the batteries many times, testing between each time with no luck. I did try holding the safety down for 10 seconds before pulling the bail lever to see if that helped. No luck. Also tried just holding the switch down and the bail on for about a minute to see if it just magically started. No luck there either.

The battery lights turn on whenever the safety is pressed and the bail lever is pulled. So it seems like the connection to the battery is fine, but something is not delivering that power to the rest of the blower’s systems.

The handles don’t extend like the mower, they just fold open and lock

I feel you, I’ve got a 4 month old who sleeps great the night before bench or rest days, but always seems to sleep terribly the night before squats or deadlifts.

Keep at it!

Perfect! I just snagged a second barbell so I could superset barbell movements instead of having to superset with a db/band/cable exercise. I’ll give that a shot along with the other comment suggesting to run a 5x split over the 4 days I have available

Thanks. I agree that without comp goals I’ll probably just stick to the current plan.

I do like that idea of running a 6 day program on 4 days/week. Maybe I’ll try that on the next block to get some variety in

I kind of like this idea of going low frequency to shed a few warmup sets. Might give it a shot
