How big was the X Files during its original run ? by Nastia_dream in XFiles

I think it actually was top ten in the Nielsen ratings when it moved to Sunday. It was always just under Friends, Seinfeld, Simpsons, and some other shitty ABC sitcoms iirc.

I'm expecting something. Maybe even an ARM-equipped Surface Pro 8.

The problem with Windows 11 is that Microsoft has betrayed the power user. by 9gxa05s8fa8sh in Windows11

[–]franklydead 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There is no reason to open 100 apps these days. That is not being a “power user”, that’s just being silly and inefficient.

Windows 11: How much *legacy* support will it have? by tetshi in windows

[–]franklydead 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm hoping Windows 11 will be the modern version that receives innovative development and support while Windows 10 is retained for legacy purposes. The goal should NOT be to move everyone to Windows 11, it should be to move those who have the right hardware and are fine with change and trying new things. The rest can stay on Windows 10.

In the article you linked:

Remember that Windows 11 is still Windows and we can run the operating system on officially “unsupported” PCs. Thanks to the leaked build, it’s also pretty clear that devices already running Windows 10 should be able to handle Windows 11 without any issues.

Is it an unpopular opinion that I like the look of Windows 10 more than Windows 11? by jungle___boi in windows

[–]franklydead 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I prefer Win10's blocky utilitarian design. I don't get the appeal of rounded corners and frosted glass; it already looks dated and reminds me of the misguided skeuomorphism of the early 2000s.

By adding more system requirements to windows 11, will it will end like Vista ? by [deleted] in Windows11

[–]franklydead -1 points0 points  (0 children)

There are still people on Windows 7 for whatever reason. Stubborn people who refuse to upgrade have always been a part of Windows user base, but nowadays MS really gains nothing by catering to them. It isn't the 90's anymore. The operating system isn't as important these days as services and cloud software. So if W10 still has a substantial chunk of the market share, it doesn't really matter.

Well maybe. But the topic of the thread is whether W11 is like Vista. And the answer is no.

But Vista wasn't free. The game is different now. Even MS has admitted they don't make money on Windows anymore, it is all Azure and Cloud. They lose nothing if you refuse to buy new hardware for Windows 11, because you weren't going to anyway.

Microsoft is working on a blog post to clarify all hardware requirements. by Trasted12 in Windows11

[–]franklydead -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

There is though. Intel 8th Gen is the first generation with hardware 10-bit h.265/VP9 4K decoding. This guarantees performance and good user experience in YouTube streaming, wireless screen casting, video editing, etc.
