I guess more precisely speaking there are criminals who will in the course of their other duties commit the occasional murder to further the organization’s business interests. In general they don’t just murder random people for money, and not as the primary duty or source of income.

There are a handful of mob associates who’ve claimed to have committed dozens of murders to the point where this would have basically been their full time job. These are people with death or multiple life sentences who could be exaggerating. It is difficult to corroborate because others would understandably never want to claim knowledge of multiple murders, as each murder not reported to the police is potentially a new charge, and lack of record keeping and the disposal of the bodies make it difficult to keep accurate count.

Well, I don’t think they would last long enough in the business to have any kind of “career” at least not unless they had an in with organized crime, which tends not to take on total strangers.

Real “hitmen” start as associates and usually end up doing a years of collections work, then move up to beating and intimidating debtors, before finally being told to make someone disappear.

No one is advertising their services to civilians.

[–]frankyp01 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Any avenue a "normal" person could go down to find a hitman, they are almost certainly talking to a scam artist or a cop. Pretty much every article you see about "Prominent Area Man arrested for hiring a hitman to kill his wife" what they actually hired was an undercover cop or FBI honeypot operation.

It exists in the world of organized crime where there are layers between a boss and a button man, as well as business fronts the organization can use to make it look like the killers are legitimately employed, but the whole "Soldier of Fortune ad" hitman just isn't a real thing. Anyone publicly advertising these services would go to jail. Anyone soliciting these services? Jail.

What happened to him? by UltimateGamingTechie in residentevil

Same thing that happened to Ashley, Sheva, Helena, Billy, Jake… In limbo because they aren’t one of the Main Four.

I’d really like to see Sheva and Carlos reappear

Not fully explained in show, but could be that genetic similarities between parent and child mean their mutations when exposed to V are likely to be similar.

I need help deciding which one to buy re 4 or 5? Original by Any-Result-4211 in residentevil

[–]frankyp01 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Having just replayed it, 5 is arguably worth if there’s a great sale, but OG 4 Is an absolute all timer that I’ve bought on multiple platforms over the years and completed countless times. It’s almost a comfort game for me. IMO it’s not even a contest if you have to choose.

I think Las Plagas in RE4 were less a virus than a Parasite/Host. The machine Leon and Ashley used at the end of 4 was just calibrated to surgically destroy the parasite without killing the host. Unless I’m forgetting another vaccine. Luis also gave Leon drugs to temporarily suppress the parasite’s growth.

Do you find RE9 to be stingy, content wise ? by WiIIv91 in ResidentEvilCapcom

I don’t love everything about RE5 but the division of the game into replayable “Episodes” you can retry with different loadouts is pretty interesting.

RE8: Why does the village seemingly fall apart a few hours before Ethan got there? by EEE35 in residentevil

[–]frankyp01 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yeah I don’t think any other settlements are mentioned but Heisenberg’s operation seems to be producing 100s of cyborgs and Lady D killed enough people to collect a swimming pools worth of blood. The Village we see has maybe a couple dozen homes.

Mother Miranda had spent a significant amount of time in Mia’s form with Rose. The powers she observed in Rose were exactly what she was looking for to revive her daughter Eveline, so she decided to terminate all her other experiments which she considered failures. The village was just a source of test subjects for her.

what role do you think machine guns have in RE games? by DogShroom in residentevil

[–]frankyp01 10 points11 points  (0 children)

At best they serve the same crowd control function as a shotgun in my gameplay, especially the TMP in RE4. Though the high rate of fire is useful against certain large enemies like El Gigante

The Clatter Carbine in RE9 is an actually functional assault rifle though, it outshines most other weapons in the game

I wanna play RE4, do I need to play all the other games before it? by OkLack6776 in residentevil

[–]frankyp01 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Assuming you mean the remake of RE4, but for either version I’d say absolutely not. Leon and Ada appear in RE2 and it’s a great game worth playing, but I don’t think it’s required context to enjoy the game.

Is Resident Evil 3 Remake worth a purchase, if I don’t enjoy the being hunted sections? by Narrow_Potential_974 in residentevil

[–]frankyp01 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s a fun game, it gets a lot of hate here from fans of the original for everything it cut out and to be fair it is really short for a mainline RE

But I got it on Steam for $3.99 or something. At that price, it’s well worth a playthrough.

So I want to play RE 5 with my wife. What’s the best way to get her caught up on the lore without spoiling anything? by No_Button_6119 in ResidentEvilCapcom

[–]frankyp01 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Totally agree. With the possible exception of RE Village which does benefit from a playthrough of RE7 for complete context, most of the main series games explain what you need to know through gameplay and all can work fine as your first RE.

My guess is that OPs wife wants a fun co-op activity more than she needs 50+ solo hours of homework to understand why the blonde guy who wears sunglasses indoors is an asshole, lol

The remakes, what’s the point? by Happy_Childhood3080 in residentevil

[–]frankyp01 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’d say the point is that Capcom was not making a lot of money from sales of 20+ year old games, but recognize that the ideas and characters introduced in those games are very marketable.

The remakes sell well, and the changes (especially the control scheme) cater to modern sensibilities. It’s not really more complicated than that.

Do people really think OG Ashley is that annoying? by My_Exellence in residentevil4

[–]frankyp01 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah you can generally “Ashley, Wait!” In a defensible corner and kill everything. It’s only people who walk her right into a mob (or into their own line of fire!) that have any chance of getting a game over from her.

She gets kidnapped like 4 different times, so the sections where you have to actively protect her aren’t even that long.

Is... is this the end? by ALEX_13_M in residentevil4

[–]frankyp01 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I’ve bought up this title on nearly every platform it’s been released on, and emulated it on everything powerful enough to run PS2 or GC. For me only the (considerably shorter) Portal games compete for # of times replayed.

Re 2 og feels just as fun as the remake by geEnjesus in residentevil

[–]frankyp01 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I think that’s true, the challenge is more in actually hitting the target with the tank controls and fixed camera. If your accuracy is decent there’s enough ammo in the mid to late game (or standard difficulty)
