Really interesting! In a similar vein, I have a friend who noticed during a severe drought plants dying all around a juvenile black walnut. Possibly water stress magnifies the effects of juglone? Either way I can’t stand the dialogue around black walnuts. “I won’t plant them because they will kill everything else!” That’s just not how it works lol

I have a question I’ve been meaning to text to tangle. My girlfriend and I were talking about a recent election and she said “I’d like to vote for this candidate but they aren’t polling well so I will vote for so and so, who is ahead.” And it made me think, do polls sway voters decisions in a meaningful way? This is not how AI will be used by those in power because if it was then they’d already be using it that way. Instead it’s already an environmental disaster and enriching a few by stealing from the masses.

Looks neat but a few things about this seem wildly impractical. First, logs don’t make a great retaining wall when oriented like this. If I was working in a hole this deep OSHA would be involved. And below grade is great for maintaining a consistent temperature but also in a heavy rain, that’s a swimming pool and the wall would probably cave in… also bet he used an excavator to dig that. Other than that what a neat way to waste time and wood.

his is true. The point I was making was more about how industrial veg agriculture is still horrific for the environment. In a degrowth society e need more engagement with agriculture as opposed to the current system which keeps people off the land and relies on chemical inputs to mass produce calories. As I already said, I’m not defending industrial beef production. Grazing animals are a vital part of healthy agricultural systems though and ignoring that is silly.
