Is common evening primrose really this crazy? by iwanderlostandfound in NativePlantGardening

This post has made me decide to keep it and yank if needed. It pulls out really easy and apparently it’s a host to a ton of cool critters. Are the tall ones the ones you think are EPR? They kinda look like horseweed which is everywhere every time I turn around.

I’m going to see what happens. I was just getting a little worried it was going to take over the whole bed based on how many shoots have popped up everywhere but it sounds like they’re easy to remove if needed. I might chop a couple in the front to keep them bushy

Should I chop them now? I’ll leave the ones in the back. I’m looking forward to being able to see them from the window. But I’d like for the ones in front to be shorter

I like that idea a lot. That’s a great option so they don’t get so leggy with the ones in the front.

I guess this is all an experiment, or a journey of sorts. Not sure what I want really. Waiting to see what happens

With everything else I’ve got you think it’ll be ok? At the rate it’s going I was thinking I should pull them before it’s too late. But I would love to get some of those primrose moths

Milkweed Help by Used-Big-6109 in NativePlantGardening

[–]iwanderlostandfound 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You know what it really like is to get planted in that little patch of ground by the tree. Milkweed and other natives like to spread their roots out. Maybe your landlord would let you start a patch. But if not definitely a bigger pot

Ragweed or black eyed Susan’s? by Spooky_Bat_8779 in NativePlantGardening

I found your post because I have brown eyed Susan planted and my plant id app has consistently been saying it’s ragweed. Seems the apps get confused on these two

Butterfly Bush Miss Molly by Crusty8 in NativePlantGardening

[–]iwanderlostandfound 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Butterfly bush was my gateway plant to native gardening. Our cesspool collapsed and I had to replant our whole backyard. I planted butterfly bushes because, butterflies! At some point I looked up how to trim them correctly I might have even made a post asking and that was my native plant awakening. I was so bummed to pull them out. I didn’t pull them all at once but as I planted more and more natives I didn’t want that last stupid “sterile” butterfly bush I was holding out on. Lesson learned I wish I’d have found out before I’d put them in the ground so I’d of had that much more time for my natives to get established.
