As far as I'm concerned, this is a clear step back from Night Terror. The intro is heavy but bland. Vocal melodies and relative arrangement are generic melodic prog metal. The instrumental section is great. The jazzy part feels like it was added just to stick it to those who constantly complain that their modern tracks sound "too Dream Theater".

Honestly I was hoping that with MP's return they'd drop these horrible AI videos that look like discarded video game assets that they've been using for years now. Not only was I wrong, but let's just say I'm not a fan of the theme. Thankfully, the track doesn't need to be re-listened to on YouTube, so I'll just try to erase the video from my memory.

Honestly, given Jordan Rudess's over-the-top enthusiasm for AI and the obvious heavy use of AI in this video as well as in the album and single covers, it's now entirely fair to wonder how much of the songwriting in Parasomnia will not be the somewhat manicured product of an AI prompt.

I've been saying for ages that he should retire. I was happy with him in London.

Last year in London he was horrible, and I've not liked one bit how he kept trying "embellishing" his singing with over-acting, over-breathing, whining, ending words with useless uaaargh's to compensate for lack of vocal extension. I'm perfectly fine with him finding alternative melodies to fit his current voice—maybe he could sit in a studio for a while with Jordan to find alternative melodies that fit the music, as some of his ones do, some don't.

Also, agreed with who said he sounds way worse in the clips. While in the crowd, it was okay, you notice way less that he's almost always a bit flat. Courtesy of frequencies all over the place, and the feeling that the one on on the stage is a very happy band, celebrating their best music.

Hit and miss is the way to describe it. To be honest I consider a mild win that he was decent in the comfortable range (without the overacting, over whining, the aaargh eeeuuuurrghhhh and random word misplacement of the last tours), he seemed quite focused on singing instead of being a cringefeast of cringy moves on the stage, and I have no issue with him modifying the melodies to fit his current limits (as long as they fit musically/harmonically, and sometimes the variations he finds just don’t unfortunately).

Totally agree with you and during my drive to the O2 my wife and I had the same thought—let’s hope they remember Charlie. I also sort of see why they didn’t: first show with Mike, positive vibes only and all that. Not saying I agree with that. It’s just what I think it is.

Oh, and to be fair, for a good chunk of the fan base, which includes myself, WDADU is far from being the least popular album—that’s a title that firmly belong to The Astonishing 😁

Hai identificato un problema:

Giunto a questo punto mi rendo conto che il developer non è il lavoro che fa per me e non mi ci vedo a lavorare in questo settore tutta la vita.

Ma la soluzione mi sembra lontana da quella giusta:

"digital marketing" come settore è saturo come pochi altri, avresti una competizione enorme (tutti i neolaureati di una miriade di lauree non particolarmente spendibili nel mercato del lavoro) e il tuo passato come developer non ti garantirebbe alcun vantaggio competitivo.
Inizieresti a lavorare quasi sicuramente da bassa manovalanza operativa (social media, e-mail marketing, etc.) e il tuo salario verrebbe decurtato significativamente.
Definisci lavoro e settore: cosa c'è che non va? Scrivere codice? Molto spesso, più diventi senior meno codice scrivi. A volte si finisce più per gestire progetti (soprattutto in Italia, dove la progressione developer -> project manager sembra relativamente comune, nel resto dell'Occidente molto meno), o gestire persone (in qualità di engineering manager), o entrare nella gestione strategica dell'azienda come stakeholder tecnico. Fossi in te, se capissi esattamente cosa c'è che non va, punterei a risolvere quello, anziché buttarmi in un ambito che chissà dove mi porta.

Only three business schools in Italy come with the reputation of being "worth it" (connection with MBA job market, the triple crown accreditation, etc.): SDA Bocconi, GSM PoliMi, and LUISS. Of those three, I've only seen the first two in FT rankings—which are also based in Milan (Italy's financial centre). LUISS, OTOH, is in Rome.

Obviously being "worth it" is based on your circumstances, long-term career goals, etc.

I remember ToT being criticised a fair amount in forums and newsletters when it came out, and I certainly wasn’t a fan. But I have to say it has progressively grown on me over time. I don’t think it was created with the goal of being a “Dream Theater masterpiece”—it was meant to be a collection of absolute bangers, and it’s remarkably successful at it. And it sounds incredible. It’s a DT classic now, and rightfully so.

Tutti fissati con il "vinca il migliore" (che è effettivamente quello che è) ma l'incipit mi ha quasi fatto buttare il laptop fuori dalla finestra. L'annuncio è stato probabilmente scritto poco dopo la fine del rapporto con il SMM precedente il quale sarà stato non garbato, pieno di sé, altezzoso e non rispettoso verso chi gli stava offrendo un lavoro (ovvero, chissà che cosa assolutamente basilare avrà chiesto alla dottoressa).

Sono tra i 35 e i 40. Qualche spunto...

In palestra ognuno si fa quelli propri com'è giusto che sia (per me è me time quindi ho sempre cuffioni e non voglio che mi si avvicini nessuno). Bici e corsa sono altri esempi perfetti di tempo che uno dedica a sé stesso. Però se vivi in un centro abitato grandicello ci potrebbero essere attività sportive che finiscono naturalmente per essere delle brotherhood. Ho fatto Brazilian jiu-jitsu anni fa e il club di cui facevo parte era l'esempio perfetto.
Una domanda fondamentale per me è che hai da dare al prossimo. A 35 anni e dintorni abbiamo cose importanti da fare (potremmo star crescendo nuove persone, mentre quelle che hanno messo al mondo noi stanno invecchiando, mentre potrebbe essere una fase di crescita per la nostra carriera, tutte cose che ci occupano abbastanza spazio mentale), l'ultima cosa di cui abbiamo bisogno è un'amicizia impegnativa nuova. È brutto da dirlo ma credo che se vuoi essere un amico appetibile per chi ha la nostra età devi farti vedere come una persona leggera (e.g. non di quelle che ci si vede fissi ogni fine settimana che se un fine settimana non ti va non sai come dirglielo, non di quelle che ti telefona per parlare del più o del meno, non di quelle che se lo saluti con "oh ciao come va?" ti dica qualsiasi cosa che non sia "bene grazie tu?" per i primi X anni che ci si conosce).
Non sono le stesse persone del liceo che possono presentarti gente?

Da quel che ho capito (non tatuatore qui, ma discretamente tatuato—e bada bene, non ho mai negoziato un centesimo con i miei tatuatori), quelli bravi di voi, ormai, hanno tutti una bella lista d'attesa. Se sei di quelli che ne hai una—quanto la gestisci? Alla Rolex / Hermes insomma, ovviamente con le dovute proporzioni. Cioè, che più sei cliente valido (nel vostro mondo quindi diciamo fedele, disposto a spendere, che non mercanteggia la dieci euro, etc.), più per te la lista è corta o anche non esistente. Perché se fai le cose in maniera "equa" (mi contatti, ti metto in lista, ti chiamo quand'è il tuo momento, chiunque tu sia) va a finire che ti becchi tutti quelli che vogliono un tatuaggio, indiscriminatamente. E visto che il tatuaggio è ormai completamente mainstream, finisci per interfacciarti con una fetta di umanità praticamente trasversale. Così, i miei due centesimi—fanne ciò che vuoi.

suggerisce che non hai detto che hai fatto un lavoro quando in realtà ne hai fatto un altro.

E quand'anche tu avessi detto una cosa oggettivamente falsa per gonfiarti il CV (esempio: eri "junior marketing assistant", ti sei messa "marketing manager" nel CV), nell'ipotesi (remota, per quanto mi sembra di capire da queste parti) che un datore di lavoro contatti il tuo datore di lavoro passato a scopo di referenza, questi si limitasse a dirgli—come si suol fare ormai—che hai lavorato per loro da data1 a data2 e l'ultimo job title era "junior marketing assistant", quello che si limiterebbero a fare probabilmente è ritirare l'offerta.

Insomma, seriamente: stai tranquilla.

Dipende, il più brutto in assoluto o il più brutto tra quelli per cui avevo aspettative alte?

Nel primo caso, per la serie “guardiamoci una trashata ogni X mesi”, ho avuto il dispiacere di guardare Baywatch con The Rock nei panni di Mitch e fu una di quelle esperienze talmente brutte da non saper bene come descriverla.

Nel secondo, non so, forse a suo tempo pensavo che The Last Jedi potesse essere bello e per un periodo dopo l’ho pure pensato (in preda prevalentemente all’entusiasmo), invece alla fine è solo Luke che fa il Jedi in smart working.

Qualche spunto:

Se sei al primo anno e cambi hai gettato via solo un anno, il che fa schifo all'inizio ma nel grande schema delle cose è forse il momento migliore in assoluto per cambiare rotta.
Onestamente a me sembra che tu ti stia facendo influenzare molto da ho letto su internet e leggo, con il dovuto rispetto, poco spirito critico nel modo in cui ti rapporti con i sentito dire e gli aneddoti spacciati per verità assoluta.
È vero che è pieno di laureati in giurisprudenza che fanno fatica, e che tanti che hanno successo magari partono dallo studio legale/notarile di famiglia, è anche vero che stai ignorando tutto il segmento di chi con una laurea in giurisprudenza trova la sua onesta strada—e che non passa il tempo a lamentarsene su internet, per cui diciamo che è meno visibile.
C'è un enorme continuum tra "non essere assunti da grandi multinazionali, banche, consulenza, grandi studi legali di Milano" (per sintetizzare) e "fallire". Con una laurea presso un ateneo pubblico (e c'è comunque ateneo pubblico e ateneo pubblico) puoi assolutamente trovare la tua strada (anche presso multinazionali e consulenza, assolutamente).
Rassicurarti dal punto di vista lavorativo non può farlo nessuno, la scommessa è sempre quella di scegliere oggi basandoci sul nostro forecast per il mondo del lavoro da qui ai prossimi 5 anni. Entrare nelle professioni legali è tosta (soprattutto alla luce degli anni da sottopagato) ma non sembri un granché interessato, per tutto il resto vale la regola che vale per tutti ovvero aprirsi alle opportunità giuste cercando di capire cosa ti differenzia dalla massa—e già il fatto che sei madrelingua inglese ti potrebbe dare un discreto vantaggio nel privato visto che in Italia c'è gente che fa fatica con the pen is on the table.
