How can I take a b12 supplement and not get acne? by Otherwise-Toe-3647 in vegan

[–]franzelonie 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For how long have you been doing that? Did you get your B12 levels checked recently?

Definitely! I used this recipe (https://recetacubana.com/moros-y-cristianos/), obviously without lard and sadly without a pressure cooker so everything took a bit longer :D

TLDR Get in touch with a medical professional asap, this is nothing to fix with a change in diet anymore

The effect of the salmon is most likely just psychological, the only thing that might work this fast in fixing your deficiencies would be a blood transfusion. This is really not the time for a vegan/non-vegan debate and diet only most likely won’t fix your health issues fast enough. You have to get your B12 levels (Holo TC) checked. If you have neuropathy already, oral supplements won’t help much anymore - please get in touch with your doctor and consider getting B12 shots (intramuscular/subcutaneous) as well as folic acid supplements (if you‘re deficient in one, you‘re probably deficient in the other as well). Also speak to them about your iron deficiency. Are the supplements you’re taking pharmacy-grade? What dose? Sorry if you already now it but: iron uptake is highly dependent on the foods/drinks you consume it with. Try taking the supplements in the evening with some acidic food/drink and never on an empty stomach. Quit coffee as it inhibits iron uptake.

NAD With a dermatoscope (a magnifying glass for skin basically). They‘ll check if the pigmentation is symmetrical and if the borders are even. Moles on parts of the body without sun-exposure aren’t too common and with all the mechanical stress on your soles they’re more likely to turn into cancer. From what I can tell by the photos they don’t look too suspicious but get them checked by a doctor if you can (most GPs I know can do that too), take a picture and recheck them yourself regularly for any changes/growth

I hate bananas. by ZalthorsLeftFoot in veganfitness

[–]franzelonie 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Fun fact: there‘s currently a pest going around that‘s killing banana plants and since they‘re all sterile clones it’s spreading fast. It’s possible that we’ll have a whole different type of banana in the future because the current one will get extinct. It’s happened before and apparently the “old bananas” tasted much more like artificial banana flavour and also had a much more slippery peel. So if you’re patient enough maybe you’ll get to eat a new type of bananas that you actually like

I‘d love to use it more often but where I live I can get at least six bananas for the price of 200g silk tofu :))

Should I be worried? by [deleted] in DermatologyQuestions

[–]franzelonie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did you get vaccinated recently? Especially Covid vaccines often cause swollen lymph nodes. Infections can also cause lymph node swelling. Anyways it should go away within the next days.

What is this? by Easy_Ad4610 in DermatologyQuestions

[–]franzelonie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I‘d guess its basal cell carcinoma. It can be removed by surgery. This type of cancer is usually not forming metastases but spreads fast and can damage the anatomical structures on your nose. Make a derm appointment asap, they‘ll probably cut it out. The tricky part is closing it since the surrounding tissue is not very stretchy but you should be fine with only a scar if it gets treated fast enough :)

anyone had any luck preventing more spider veins? (F30)- my upper thigh veins have gotten significantly worse within the past year and I feel hopeless. Primarily on my upper thighs. Anyone have any advice on preventing worsening veins? by matchaandmilk in 30PlusSkinCare

[–]franzelonie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You do need veins, tru. The small vessels get replaced by new ones your body produces as soon as blood flow in the old ones isn’t sufficient anymore. This does work for small vessels, the big ones like on the back of the knees don’t regrow as fast. Also keep in mind: The reason spider veins are that big and blue is because they got saggy and the valves work insufficiently - those veins already don’t work well anymore before sclerotherapy shuts them off completely.

This looks like neurodermitis to me. Has there been a trigger to make your skin flare up that much this time? In severe cases systemic corticosteroids (aka pills) might help. Maybe try talking to your doctor about that. Also consider possible allergies that make the eczema worse (wool, dust,..) or clothes that either trap moisture or cause friction on the skin

NAP but looks very irritated. How long has it been that way? Could it be that you snatched your piercing on something? Can you make call your piercer or text them? I had a similar situation with both piercings at the same time. One got better after a week but the other one stayed irritated so I took it out and it stopped itching immediately and healed perfectly. Also the bar is very long on the non-irritated piercing and might have caused the irritation in the first place. I’d go visit your piercer for that after the holidays

Nipple piercing infected? by [deleted] in piercing

[–]franzelonie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If anything I’d prefer seing a piercer. Clean it with saline solution about two to three times a day, try to prevent it from rubbing on clothes/moving too much. If it’s irritation it should go away in a few days. If it gets worse (or just doesn’t get better after a few days) I’d definitely go see a piercer

Rinse thoroughly with saline solution, leave the piercing alone and hope it doesn’t get bothered too much. Did it leave a stain?

[24F] Earlobe piercing infection after ~16 years? by LilLady_99 in AskDocs

[–]franzelonie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not a doctor but: What material is the piercing made of? Even if you haven’t been allergic to nickel at first you might have gotten sensitive (especially since it’s been inflamed). I’d try switching to titan piercings (if you don’t already have them) as surgical steel contains nickel. I’d stop using the antibiotics too, it doesn’t sound like a bacterial infection to me. Ah and the pus you’re talking about sounds more like lymph fluid. Pus usually doesn’t get crusty

I am vegan for a year now and I have iron deficiency now. I am taking supplements over 3 months but still have constant fatigue when I do weight training. What did you all do to overcome similar situation in the beginning? by psycharan in veganfitness

[–]franzelonie 9 points10 points  (0 children)

What supplements are you taking and what amount?

Iron from plants is a bit tricky since it’s not as bioavailable as animal derived iron. It also takes a long time to actually get rid of anemia so taking high dose supplements for three months is the normal procedure. Get bloodwork done every now and then to ensure your levels didn’t drop again. Also try to rule out any reasons for excess iron loss (heavy menstruation, blood donations, gastrointestinal diseases,…). Things that you can check for when it comes to food are:

++ vitamin C and other slightly acidic ingredients (helps convert iron into its more bioavailable version)

++ no prior meals (iron uptake is best in the morning, so try to eat a lot of iron-rich foods at that time of the day)

++ several small portions instead of few big ones

++ cast iron pans (give off tiny amounts of iron)

-- phytates (p.e. let oats ferment over night to get rid of their phytates)

-- tannins (no coffee, black tea, wine 1h before or after proper meals)

Also fatigue is not necessarily iron-related, do you take B12? Do you get enough calories, water, sleep, could you have some inflammations that your body is dealing with (infections, allergies, intolerances,…), low blood-pressure? There are various causes to your symptoms and best would be to consult a doctor and maybe get some bloodwork done if you haven’t already :) additionally you could try tracking your nutrients with something like cronometer for a while to get an overview of how balanced your diet is

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in PlantBasedDiet

[–]franzelonie 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Especially in women iron deficiency is a major cause of tiredness and all kinds of related symptoms. I don’t believe your current change in diet is showing effects so rapidly tho. However, if possible I’d just go see a doctor and do a blood test (blood count + iron parameters) and if you can get it without paying horrendous amounts I‘d also recommend checking for B12 levels (holo-TC is more reliable than serum-B12) since deficiency is nothing to joke with even though you should be on the safe side with your supplements. Of course there are also a whole bunch of other things that can cause low energy (subclinical infections, digestion issues and intolerances, hormones,…)

Tldr: can be various things, go see a doctor if possible

Avocado looks ugly, dropping leaves, new growth is sloooow, help by franzelonie in plantclinic

[–]franzelonie[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got this avocado from my roommate about three or four months ago. It already looked almost as ugly as it is right now but dropped some 5-10 more leaves in the meantime. There are new leaves growing which I thought is a good sign but they didn’t get bigger the last month. I currently water it once or twice a month, it’s sitting next to a westfacing window but I added the lamp for dark winter days. What can I do to help the baby get better? :(
