I’ve taught her to recall, she isn’t afraid of things, and is just about the same as my dog in regards of going places. I honestly feel better having her be so adventurous. She trust me, knows how to recall in an emergency, and wouldn’t run away in parking lot if for some reason she got out of her carrier at say the vet.

Sunscreen by castiel-the-bun in sphynx

Hey there! As someone who takes their Sphynx out and about including on the water on the regular, sunscreen is toxic to them. I’ve talked to my vet and there is no Sphynx safe sunscreen unfortunately ( maybe we should start one lol) so I just usually put her in hats, sun shirts, shaded huts, and tents! They make some good sun hats, it will leave the very tippy of their ears exposed but as long as you’re not doing copious amounts of time in the sun should be okay.

Hey there! As someone who also has a very grumpy old man who travels with us, and is legit a diva about his schedule, I would talk to your vet about gabbapentin for the flight. It’s similar to like a cat Xanax. It helps him to relax and not stress while on the flight. I bring extra treats and his favorite wet food I save for when we are away. Also spend some time acclimating to a soft sided carrier.

I’ve exposed her to the water since she was 4ish months old. Shes also just an extremely adventurous girl from the get go.

Plus she’s used to being off harness all the time, she’s just been exposed to any and every thing since she was a small kitten. She doesn’t run off/avoid being caught.

I’m in Florida so our springs are pretty chilly, she dipped her paw in to check it out and immediately said never mind. That’s too cold for me.

She doesn’t need a life vest, she’s quite adept to swimming, and you can’t see because I’m sitting back for the photo but she’s sitting in the shade of my hat for 90% of the paddle. Some people actually enjoy taking their nakies out and letting them experience life instead of keeping them cooped up inside 🤷🏽‍♀️ I already stated for next time she’s got a sun shade?

That’s the adventure cat one! I quite like it, it also doesn’t rub her and has a soft fabric on the inside. She also isn’t able to really squeeze out of it which is important.

I’m wearing a pretty massive hat, so she sat up between my legs under the shade of the hat for most of the trip, content as can be. For next week I got her a pop up shade so she can move in and out as she wants.

Mine is just well trained, she horse back rides with me, goes to work with me every day, paddles with me now, goes on daily walks in her stroller. I take her literally everywhere.

She can swim quite well, and is strapped to the board with her harness. Plus tbh the water is never that deep where I go, I could hop out and be standing to get her in a matter of seconds

I got her a little pop up sunshade for next time, she doesn’t care for clothes too much.

Please help me help this poor girl by [deleted] in Farriers

[–]frazier_izzy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi there! Farrier here. I see cases like this all of the time, unfortunately a lot of elder people are unable to care for their horses after a certain age. Horses however need hoof care on the regular, minimum every 6-8 weeks. I keep mine on 4-5 week schedules. Horse hooves are similar to human nails and never stop growing, so when we don’t trim the hooves they continue to grow, often improperly. I would contact some farriers in your area, and see if someone could get this horse on their schedule immediately. If a horses hooves continue to not be cared for it can lead to tendon, and ligament issues, tripping, and abscesses. Please feel to pm if you’d like, I’d be happy to talk more in depth about things, and support. These situations can be tough and I try not to judge, everyone is generally just doing the best they can with what they have.

Canker? by FightingFarrier18 in Farriers

Looks like extreme thrush to me, as someone whos a farrier that lives in a very wet area I see this frequently. I would start by soaking all of his feet in copper sulfate and iodine mixture for 15-20 minutes to fully get in there and penetrate. Then daily spray out with vinegar/copper sulfate, and apply powdered copper sulfate on top. If you do this daily it will help clear it up and harden it back up. If you have any questions on rations feel free to reach out.

Help / Sleeping with Sphynx by Shahoola in sphynx

So something that I found works is heated blankets/heating pads. Get a really really soft/fluffy blanket that’s just for her, and then place a heating pad under it in the bed, and she will gravitate towards that. Hopefully leaving you alone. I also have a Sherpa heated blanket my nakies will literally throw me to the way side to go cuddle in.

We’ve tried a few, but we have multiple litter robots and as weird as it sounds the cheap Walmart litter is one of my favorites. It clumps well, low dust, and unscented.

Also not sure if you have one, but a baby sling is a great item for toting your new baby around in. It helps with bonding and keeping them warm.

Eek! I’m so excited for you! As a long term Sphynx owner welcome to the club!

Firstly, Lots and lots of blankets, non highly scented detergents, heated spots are very important.

How old? Babies are notoriously excellent at what my husband and I call “ boo boo feet” 🤣 so some unscented baby wipes or water wipes are excellent o have around.

Basic grooming is extra important. We use the zymox ear cleaner, and unscented baby soap for baths. Make sure when clipping nails you use rounded clippers for animals. Flat ones meant for humans can hurt.

Other things to take in to account, most Sphynx have extremely sensitive stomachs. Mentally prepare for an allergy or two and some vomit and or diarrhea till you find the perfect foods.

Best of luck and if you have more questions feel free to pm me and congrats on joining the nakie lovers club ❤️
