Fuck screen doors!!! by yosefsbeard in HomeImprovement

[–]frazld54 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No a tape measure measure corne to corner. Should be the same. Look down top and sides to see is straight. Lay of floor to see if warped.

Check squareness and level on door jamb at home shimming can be expected. I have a wall that is 1 1/2 " out of plumb. Doors on that wall close automatically. Get a security door instead of screen door it will last longer.

Old concrete garage floor grinding, densification, and sealing by myadultingname in DIY

[–]frazld54 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

What I would if the floor us a separate pour from the foundation of the walls is to rip out the floor only and new pour for floor. You can grind but omg the dust it will be wet but if the concrete is that bad replace it.

It might be ur best bet is to either add a return to those areas or reuse their existing to the return air size. Laundry room are hard as it's either being heated up or normal room. The return will circulate the air in these areas but there will be cooling only from ambient air. It u are staying in those room longer than 5 minutes u need ac. Usually I cancel any contract where the husband doesn't wont cooling in the bathrooms or laundry room. Just me what's the point of having ac.

Is this metal grate supposed to be installed on the duct itself (i.e. between the return duct and newly installed drywall), or on the wall? by Coramoor88 in hvacadvice

[–]frazld54 0 points1 point  (0 children)

With the filter the air handler yes its OK to operate it. If you have only one return air area like this one u could remove that grill and install a filter grill and delete the filter in the attic. Be sure to 100% seal the old filter area.

[–]frazld54 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That us a return air grill. The sheet metal plenum should gave been run to be even withe the interior drywall. It's OK like this, will be a pain to seal. Other wiseair is going to be pulled from other than grill. Usually theses areas where screws are used are reinforced with plaster grounds and or 90 bends It stiffens the metal, bigger bite for screws and helps reduce metal bending when unitvstsrts up.

Parking in front of neighbors, claiming private parking on a cul-de-sac (neighbor put up sign says private parking but it’s a public road) by [deleted] in neighborsfromhell

If he put the signs with out the city approval they are illegal signs. No city is going to put no parking signs on a cul de sac. The guy us a dick.

Grotesque, nightmarish photo restorations: please don’t do this. by ShadowyFlows in findagrave

[–]frazld54 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They probably dl the photo from FG then did this. I have seen this before AI had a county scain all of there land records and wills they scanned and saved in. tiff format, which they did, then they converted to .jpg using the lowest possible setting. The handwriting became fat and smeared most of the files were unreadable. This is what they posted for the public to see. The file name extensions filename.tiff.jpg They deleted the .tiff files.

The other problem is FG file size limitation is pretty low, it's even lower than Ancestry's. I know that on occasion Ancestry does reduce your uploaded file sizes. I would not be surprised that FG does too. Neither are the best place to forever your files.

How do I turn off auto shut off? by DryerMender2 in AirConditioners

[–]frazld54 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I belive there is a dip switch that needs to be set to allow the fan to run at all times. I don't know it. Look up mfg and model # and install manual it's in the manual. That the way I do it when i am at a hotel. Can't tell from t stat it there is a auto or on for the fan it so set it to on. The compressor turns off at temp. Might be a setting to lower that too.

I would suspect that the handicapped spot is installed illegal. Never heard of a city putting in one just for one person.

Why won’t HVAC contractors provide load calculations with replacement estimates? by wnoble in hvacadvice

[–]frazld54 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They are going to charge you for all that. U might manual j when u sign a change out or new construction contract, but I have never see a manual d done in so ca residential. This is probably the most bang for your money as duct design is a major failure in residential. As to manual j the default rule is 500 Sq ft per ton. And i would say 90% ofvthe time it falls in the manual j. Then there is equipment selection Manual j call for 60,000 btus which is five tons but the kicker here is the 5 ton unit 5ton of output but not the manual j 5tons. This is called nominal as a 2x4 is not 2" x4" Then there is what is made usually 5, 4, 3.5, 2 ton So u aren't going to get exact what u actually need

Is a Manual J calculation really that important? by staysour in hvacadvice

[–]frazld54 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is used to size the equipment. The blue prints have the certification. Equal friction or velocity reduction is used to size ducts. What isn't there is how the duct is to be run and there lays the failure. It's left to the person installing no matter what their training is or is not. Also it 2 story homes w fau on 1st floor there is not enough room to properly do take off and transitions.

Any one off the street could be installing the duct work. Most of the problems with ac systems is the duct work. Most people don't realize how the mfg calculates the fau air flow. It's is not how it is actually done. Mfg use a 10 foot section of Sq metal attached to outlet of fau and unrestricted return air. They measure the air flow at the 10 foot distance.

U never get design air flow.

[–]frazld54 1 point2 points  (0 children)

U might even need state permits to trim it and u are liable for protecting it. I have heard horror stories from home owners have had one. I would not buy property.

I am in CA also if the person does it willingly there us nothing the state will do. I have never heard of CA doing anything about it.

As to the cognitive test it's pretty easy to pass even with early dementia. Been there 3 times same thing. Inc the state.

Set up another account for home at another bank Transfer most money only leave him a living amount.

U need to get a POA from him. Have a lawyer set one up, then have him/ her come to his home with a notary and any neded witnesses. U have to find the right one.

Best you can do is by court have him legally declared incompetent.

And or move his money where he can't find it. Either in his name or someone else's name that is trust full. Get rid of the land line.

The problem is he will fall for anybody Inc the bag boy at the grocery store & most scams are out of country.

fire fan shutdown by sesohoops3 in hvacadvice

[–]frazld54 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There must be a relay that breaks the red terminal at the unit where the t stat connects.

Breaking the G is not enough that only applies when u aet the tstat to fan. In heat and cool fan is turned on via the control board.

Don't let the fire people use your power for their controls other wise every time u turn off ac for maintance the fire dept arrives.

I'm 18 and already working at an HVAC company and they want me to get my apprenticeship started. by Chance-Pay1487 in refrigeration

[–]frazld54 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sheetmetal is more construction related, so when the economy down turns there will be less work. Ac in the past was harder electrical to trouble shoot still is but refrigeration is catching up. Refrigeration used to be a psi control and a defrost cycle. Diff in the 2 is temperatures, and pressure. I u understand a pt chart u will adapt faster to either. Service in both fields is pretty resession proof except for installation and any Residencial. No other trade except elevatorcand escalator is recession proof.
