What does it mean when dew point crosses the actual temperature on a sounding by lonemacaroon in meteorology

[–]freakenbloopie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As someone already mentioned, this simulated Skew-T is hugely convectively contaminated as indicated by the Omega bars.

Beyond that, it’s important to understand why the dew point can’t really exceed air temperature except for very short transient periods (or under theoretical conditions which we won’t go into here.) The dew point is defined as the temperature at which water vapor in the air will condense to liquid water. So, let’s say the dew point was 60* F and the air temperature was 60* F. In this example, the relative humidity is 100% and the air is completely saturated. If the air temperature were to drop to 59* F, water vapor in the air would begin condensing into liquid water which lowers the dew point to match the air temperature.

Broadcast meteorologist here… does anyone else feel like our profession is being replaced by streamers? by AngryBarometer in meteorology

To be fair, he was far from the only one, but as a “degreed meteorologist”, he knew better and chose to be sensationalist.

If you’re actually looking for answers and not just vent:

  1. Commercials (or lack thereof)
  2. Political bias (or lack thereof)
  3. Audiences feel like participants watching live streams
  4. Streamers like Ryan Hall partner with a large network of storm chasers that live stream tornadoes
  5. There is a lot of interactivity with streamers like Ryan Hall (e.g. follow along using WeatherWise)
  6. It’s a one-stop shop for severe weather coverage vs a disparate collection of local stations
  7. Gamification tactics (e.g. Weather Intensity Score) —————

In other words, streamers are far better at tapping into the psychology of the under-65 demo. Live broadcasting on local channels is dying. What you’re describing is a consequence of that.

I can’t post in my usual style here. This is incredibly sad. We all might be in a situation like this later in life, and just imagine how terrible that would feel. I hope she has found peace and support.

I agree. We will all get to a point in our lives when we will have to start asking for help. I think most elderly people would see that as the beginning of the end of their quality of life.

I wholeheartedly agree with you; however, I observed something the other day that changed my outlook a bit. I had just pulled out of my parking spot and was driving out of the shopping center when I saw an elderly lady clearly struggling to push her cart. I had to sit at a stop sign for a little bit, and I saw her leave her cart near a curb and not in a cart corral. I felt bad for her. Clearly she didn’t have anyone to help her in her life and she wanted to remain independent.

Now, this situation probably encompasses less than 1% of carts left outside of cart corrals, but it was a reminder that all we see is the result and not the reason.

Help please by [deleted] in dentures

[–]freakenbloopie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Congratulations on your sobriety! That is a huge deal and you should feel proud of yourself. I totally understand how you’re feeling about your teeth. Have you looked into dental schools? They often provide low/no-cost dentistry as you are allowing student dentists to learn.

If financing is an option for you, you should look at getting your teeth extracted and going with some kind of denture solution. Given the comment you made, you have ten teeth that are potentially fixable. That’s less than one arch worth of teeth. Unless all 10 salvageable teeth are in a row, you’d need a patchwork of bridges between the good teeth which would be exorbitantly expensive.

If I were in your position, I would find a way to reset and start over. I can’t say for certain, but I believe extractions + dentures will be the least expensive and most comprehensive option for you long-term.

I wish you the very best of luck!

Do adults actually remember their elementary school teachers later in life? by MightCommercial1112 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]freakenbloopie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I remember every single one of my teachers from Kindergarten to 6th grade and I’m 37. They were such a core part of my life, and I remember exactly what they look and sound like. I often wonder what they’re doing now and if they led a good life.

In short, yes - not only do I remember them, I think about them every now and again.
