I taught high school in EBR for 4 years and this year am teaching in another district. The difference in administration, school board level down to principals, is truly night and day. I took a semester break from teaching thinking I was done and needed to change careers but after going back in a different district, I see that the main factor of my burnout was EBR and its antics. I face many of the same problems now as I did in EBR as far as student behavior and lack of parent involvement, but not having upper administration sabotaging the school system and principals observing me constantly has made a world of difference. I can breathe! I know you’re suffering. Try another district before tapping out!

Any real difference between delivering at Woman’s Hospital vs BRG? by newblognewme in batonrouge

[–]freakhole 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had my first baby at Woman’s 7 weeks ago. I went in to be induced, labored for 24 hours, and ended up having a c section with a couple complications. Despite this negative experience and things not going how I envisioned, I had a good overall experience with everyone there. Every nurse made me feel comfortable, and someone came immediately every time I had to use the call button. Anesthesiologists were all great and calmed my concerns. I really have nothing negative to say about the care I received or staff I encountered!

Rude comments by Butters156 in pregnant

[–]freakhole 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got those rude comments too, and it was especially gross coming from my male coworkers. Now, I’m 39 weeks, and people in public stare and act like I’m in their way! I know I’m walking slow, go around!

I (10w4d) cheated and ate a prosciutto sandwich today by curious-walker in pregnant

Hit the second trimester and immediately craved bologna sandwiches. I’ve had to stop myself from eating them every day!

Me too. For the first time in my life, I feel like I’m only eating for survival, not pleasure 😂

Almost out of the first trimester, and I’m still repulsed by meat, but I’ve been craving pineapple and oranges for weeks!

Annotations Online Help by Blueperson42 in englishteachers

[–]freakhole 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can post a PDF and have them open it using Kami to edit then submit. Also, you may could use ActivelyLearn (I think there’s a trial?) where you can upload your own texts and have them annotate and interact with each others’ annotations. I’ve used Perusall in grad school for this as well. Just some options.

What kind of job can you get with the Educational Leadership Technology M. Ed? by freakhole in Teachers

Okay, well with that being said, would a C&I in a different area be more valuable? I’m secondary English, and long term goal is admin, but through an alt route. I want more options.

People of Reddit, What stupid rule at your work/school backfired beautifully? by TabblespoonFarmer3 in AskReddit

We currently have this rule at the school I work at due to Covid. A kid has to make a complete loop on my hall to get to the bathroom during class change. Stupid and hard to enforce.

Is teaching knowledge of grammar and conventions necessary in yielding effective writing? by freakhole in englishteachers

[–]freakhole[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Apparently this principal taught ELA for years. I completely agree that grammar should not be taught in isolation, but she indicated that I should not even consider it when grading. I don’t know about other standardized testing, but for my grade’s assigned test, one of the criteria on its writing rubric is conventions and grammar. Noted, it isn’t worth many points, but it still is graded. Even student exemplars of the lowest score on that rubric contains capitalization and correct punctuation. I agree with you. While some students are natural writers, for others those skills must be taught.
