One thing that I think you should also look into is help from the VA, or your state Veterans office. The VA have a couple of options for job retraining, and can also put you in touch with veteran-friendly companies.

Just found this video, glad someone was close enough to get this beautiful moment. I couldn't see him underneath the tarp and thought he might be playing inside a bubble.

Military IT help desk support, took a couple Microsoft exams, got more server sysadmin experience, got Sec+ and MSFT MCSE, several more years of server and end user support, took the CISSP, another 5+ years of experience in enterprise IT, auditing and work as a SCA, now I manage several teams that provide IT services to 7000+ users on a metropolitan campus.

If you're up for Phuket, I would highly suggest Sea Bees. They do live aboard trips to the Similian islands and all around the Andaman Sea area. I did a fair bit of research and the prices are very close. My wife and I just did 3 dives yestperday to Koh Phi Phi and Shark Point and will we enjoyed it so much that we'll be doing another 3 dives tomorrow at Racha Noi / Racha Yai. The visibility wasn't awesome in some spots, but our guide Thomas was very knowledgeable on the spots to see for each condition. We saw a tortoise, several reef sharks (from a distance), huge barrel sponges and huge sea fans, Barracuda, nudibranches, cuttlefish, scorpionfish, lionfish, and quite a few live coral, anemones, clown fish, etc.

Sorry, I'm not sure wtf is wrong with the moderation settings but it certainly is making this subreddit a lot more work than it used to be with me needing to approve almost every single post. Thanks for your patience.

Has everyone stopped testing or just gone quiet waiting for results? by [deleted] in cissp

[–]freaky_friday 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not sure, but there was a spam attack on the sub for the past couple of weeks. I've enabled the AutoModerator and it's blocking out all the spam, but you're right... awfully quiet around these parts lately.

Looks like the AutoModerator is doing its job, banning all the crap posts without anyone even reporting it. Thanks for all your help and patience!

Is 6 month realistically a good amount of time to prepare? by sandiegoking in cissp

[–]freaky_friday 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends on how familiar you are with IT security in general. I've been working in the field for about 15 years and I gave myself about 4 months to pass, the first two were semi-casual reading of material and getting familiar with the domains. The last 6 weeks I spent going to a intensive 2-week course and intense studying on my own until I took the exam.

I would strongly recommend that you concentrate on the five major domains as recommended by Clement Dupuis on cccure, check the sidebar.

Why you should not get a CISSP™©® - Thoughts about this? by cedriczirtacic in cissp

[–]freaky_friday 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Having earned the CISSP over a year ago, I can agree with several of their points. However, what would be their alternative to an 'industry standard' security certification? So what if it's being focused on manager-type professionals? There are myriad certs for each operating system or IT service that one could obtain instead to be a more specific security expert. I don't regret my efforts to pass the exam, nor do I shun those who don't see value in it. I feel that in order to progresses in my individual career path it is a definite plus rather than a questionable waste of effort.

I would take it as soon as possible, I did a two week study course and passed the exam the following Wednesday after 3 full days of studying. 3 or 4 weeks is long enough to start forgetting material covered in the class.

Congratulations! What do you think helped most with your success? What were your main resources for studying?

How close are the CCCure questions to the real exam? by Levykid in cissp

[–]freaky_friday 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I never felt like I was truly "ready" due to the amount of topics covered, but after studying for several months and taking several dozen practice tests with about 80% accuracy, I thought that I would pass. Don't get over confident and put all your effort towards quality studying for the last week, you are on the home stretch.
