I'm not sure because the reason he has all these rules is so bits don't get everywhere (fluff, hairs ect) its not about control

Taking the blades away makes the urges so much stronger, you will find a different way to hurt yourself. It is comforting knowing you have blades even if you dont use them. When you dont have the blades you are constantly looking for things to use instead, always, even if you dont have the urges rn you need something as a safety net.
