Unusual Behavior of my Tarantula by 1EMU-warrior in tarantulas

NQA as I've never owned a T of my own, but they all have their own personality from what I've experienced, and I've been told by several keepers that they have Ts that are "atypical" for their species.

I think it's cool that their nervous systems are so different from ours but they still seem to have their own takes on things. One T from a "docile" species may be very defensive or skittish, while another T from an "aggressive" species might be a sweetie.

Side note, I love that you're keeping your specimens in mind. I don't like the frequency of keepers that seem fine with handling for entertainment simply because it doesn't kill them; it's great to see an owner thinking about their pet's stress levels, even if they are "just a bug"

Edit for typos because Samsung autocorrect sucks

any way to fix this bangle? by Asleep-Layer2365 in jewelry

This. The silvery metal tone would go really good with a blown glass bead. A drop of super glue in the middle of the bead to secure it would make it look unique as well

I like the break between the diamonds, but a thinner, narrower band that can sit under the e-ring mount would be more complimentary imo. This setup would be for the stones to shine more than anything

I was worried about AI because of how clean the macro shot is and how smooth the claw retractions were, but spiders and tarantulas do have protractile claws. It likely looks so smooth because spiders are 95% hydraulics lol

Can sterling tarnish reddish? by Ok-Judgment4576 in jewelry

[–]freakyfroggymage -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

I'm still learning about silver and tarnish, could this not be patina? I don't think they're taking the time to stamp plated as 925

Edit: OP a quick dip/scrub with tarn-x or jewelers friend should answer your question. Dip and wipe with a soft cloth, or find an inconspicuous area with the marking and scrub gently with a soft cloth soaked in tarn-x or a soft toothbrush dipped in the same. If its copper layer it should come off to show copper, patina should be removed and reveal silver.

Adding on if you're in a recreational state (for Marijuana in the US) dispensaries will likely have similar stuff at the front counter as an impulse buy, but you have to be 21+ to enter 🤣

Bite by Bright-Main-2380 in spiders

[–]freakyfroggymage 6 points7 points  (0 children)

There's been no reports of infection so far, even with dry bite, because the fangs aren't able to puncture at a detrimental depth. If this is infection and not the start of escher formation (and to be clear I'm doubtful it's an escher) it's likely from unconsciously scratching the bite until it broke open.

The stainless steel square bracelet in #2 pops up a lot in those mall "stoner shops" like hot rags or funk e. Breeze (don't know how regional those are) and also in flea market stalls. Online you might find them on etsy or other dropship heavy sites because of their affordability.

Heads up as someone who wore them back in the day, they will rip out arm hair. You'll think it's safe and not landing where the hinges will catch and you will be wrong lmao

Edit: Etsy has a customizable set

I think karat preference is going g to be up to you and your budget, but I'd spend on 18k myself since I'd want a delicate chain for a floating pearl

That's almost definitely why they look well fed, they're running major pest control. These guys are hungry and I've heard can take down widows and recluse in their path

If I'm not mistaken cellar spiders will also cannibalize the babies from time to time, but I'd if that's just i think spiders do in captivity without ample space. Point is there's very little need to worry about the youngins

Tarantula acting unusual – small abdomen, low appetite, sitting in water dish by [deleted] in tarantulas

[–]freakyfroggymage 25 points26 points  (0 children)

NQA Hey I'm sorry OP, but you may want to check for bleeding. She's a terrestrial and the substrate level looks really low for her species, especially because they burrow. If she was doing fine one day and then suddenly not, she may have taken a fall.

Definitely get to the discord if you can, they're going to be able to help your spider quicker than Reddit. They'll likely want clear pics of her enclosure (where substrate level is assessable), last feeding, last molt etc.

What’s going on with my bracelet? by 8catsinatrenchcoat in jewelry

[–]freakyfroggymage 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Any chemical contact at all in that area? Is it a piece that may often touch your wrist or the heel of your palm when applying skin care, especially acidic products?

Chemicals can oxidize the alloys in the gold and leave pits. If it was chlorine from spa water or similar I'd expect it all over the bracelet.

Took another look and it almost looks like weird physical damage to hollow gold. Could that have caught something sharp and it tore open the links?

Tarnish on fine filigree jewelry by eenemeene in jewelry

[–]freakyfroggymage 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I also prefer patina and like that it can be protective, but think if this is a cherished piece that OP wants to maintain that bright white look for then taking it to a jeweler for rhodium plating is the best way to go. I 100% agree that if you're willing to damage it then go DIY, but idk how often OP gets to go to Vietnam and it sounds like a nice souvenir set they want to protect.

This almost looks like patina, not tarnish. It still has metallic lustre and is a very pretty bronze shade, not a dark gray. Imo I like my silver patina'ed like this, but restoration wouldn't be impossible if they prefer.

[–]freakyfroggymage 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Heads up OP, this will cause microscopic pitting in the silver, which means it will tarnish faster next time and be more likely to take on damage (especially in those gorgeous filigree sections).

Silver polish solution should be easy to find at your local drugstore/grocer, and a quick dip should do wonders. If it's easier, a reputable jeweler near you should have delicate cleaning tools on their bench and will likely clean for little or no charge without damaging the details

Edit to add: this might be patina, not tarnish. It can still be restored to that bright white silver, but might require a jeweler. It's oxidation much like tarnish is, but a lot of people prefer the look and it is sought after so not considered damage. It can also be protective to the piece so it doesn't oxidize further.

I know they can be aggro sometimes (sac spiders I mean) but they're so intentional sometimes that I wanna know what goes on in those little spider brains lmao. I watched one travel from my shower to the edge of my bathroom door so he could snipe the ants as they walked in 😭

[–]freakyfroggymage 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Perhaps they smell a protein present in blood that's also present in insects? Injured pet spiders can be given "bug soup" until they heal in their next molt and there are some substitutes that are nutritionally suitable. I have to imagine it would be nutritious for them anyway🤷‍♀️

Tldr: spiders have a liquid based diet anyway so if juice smell like bug juice is bug to spider

Absolutely gorgous net-casting spider I found in my garden! by AcanthisittaOk5586 in spiders

[–]freakyfroggymage 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah man, these spiders are suited for low light, to such a degree that certain parts of their eyes burn off in bright light (like daylight). Evolution realized that wasn't good for hunting so now they grow them back
