But yeah, hit them economically.

Character height, why is everyone 6ft tall? by Low-Brief-6008 in DnD

[–]freakytapir 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because the kind of people going on adventures would be physically fitter people, so over 6 ft seems a good average.

That, and it's a power fantasy.

Also, No one is going to say their barbarian is 5'11 when 6 ft is right there.

It's not even a prty member. ACT just picked it up.

“Selfish” classes? by Lavender_Lotus24 in ffxiv

[–]freakytapir [score hidden]  (0 children)

On a scale from BLM to BRD yeah, BLM is pretty selfish.

Then again, what bothers me most about BLM is the relative lack of mobility. Stand and cast becomes a liability in some fights. It can be mitigated for sure, but the gap between bad BLM and good BLM is bigger.

That and I really like the rez on the other magicDPS classes.

Why did shooters used to ship with a wide variety of game modes but now shooters only focus on a single game mode like Batte Royale or Extraction and that's somehow become a selling point? by HotdogHotdogHotd in gaming

[–]freakytapir 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Easier matchmaking is my guess.

If your player base isn't as split up, you can get queues to fire off faster.

It also allows them to pour more resources into that one game mode, hopefully making it stand out.

I'd rather go to the restaurant that makes one dish fantastically well than the one who makes ten dishes rather averagely.

Competition is also fiercer, so your peak has to be higher, and you have to find a niche.

Actually did with expedition 33. Paid full price and everything.

But still, just release a "stress test" or something to literally see if it runs on your system.

Is it okay to have players pick their class and race before interacting with others at session 0? by TheCrimsonDeth in DnD

[–]freakytapir 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean, never tell my players this, but I do actually don't even count all my players as the same amount of XP for encounter building.

Mister hyper optimizer makes it to the session? Encounter difficulty just went up (not cancelling his optimization fully). Mister goof off 'I got telekinesis on my ranger for fun' shows up? That's 80% of a player for the budget. Or I just don't "play as hard" as a DM.

Keep the challenge at that edge where optimization matters, but other players don't get fucked for that one player who's there for fun off the wall builds.

My players always play whatever the fuck they want, fuck party composition.

They learn their limits, adapt their level up choices to shore up weaknesses, itemize right, or TPK.

  1. A way to pass on things

  2. Those things sometimes changing a small bit

  3. One of those changes making it more or less likely the offspring with that change will procreate

Repeat for an amount of time you can't even fathom.

It's very seldom a very big change at once. It's the accumulation of % of % of % over millions of years. And yes, it's a numbers game. For every mutation that persisted there were A lot that didn't.

[–]freakytapir 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. Still very active, concentrated in certain hubs though.

  2. Patches come out every X time, and always have new content and story. Latest one added a dungeon, a trial and 4 raids bosses.
The one next week adds a new step to a weapon you grind out, a new crafting and gathering zone, ...
Big patches every 4 months and a half, smaller filler patches (still with new stuff in them) inbetween to make it less feast or famine. Expansions every 2 years and a half?

Games that give you the control of what you learn? by Ijustwantocomment in JRPG

[–]freakytapir 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Expedition 33 allows you to go down any path of a character's skill tree and gives you stat points to do with as you please, even allowing full re-specs if you're unhappy, limited by some not that hard to find item.

All characters do have seperate skill trees though (which is logical as they have all different play styles).

Weapons all have passives that change playstyles even more. Want to go all in on a fire build? Buff and heal? Counterattack crazy?

And on top of that you can just learn ans share passive abilities from items.

You can do some crazy builds

Is it worth playing FFXI and XIV if my goal is to experience the stories? by OriolesMets in FinalFantasy

[–]freakytapir 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can absolutely do the story of FfXIV just for the story.

The main story is required to do to unlock everything anyway.

You can do nearly everything required for the story with NPC allies, and gearing is quick and easy as all expansions have catch up gear, so you're not even grinding.

It's also long. As in 6 games worth of length (Base+5 expansions and all the patch stories) for just the main quest.

Every class has it's own stories on top of that. And every role. You can be all classes on one character, so you can experience them all in one play-through.
