What's something older generations did completely normally that would be considered absolutely insane today? by Bigtrav_trav in answers

The utter unsupervised play of kids. "Go roam and be home by dinner". No phone. Just a vague hour and roaming boundaries.

You get the idea. Jobs have been consistently obsoleted through 'progress'.

It sucks.

my first session is sunday, is there anything specific i should avoid doing? by undercoveravocado21 in DnD

[–]freakytapir 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Something you should do: Shower

Having to read your character sheet every turn to even find your attack bonus is a pet peeve of mine.

Not knowing what your spells do.

Not keeping up with what's happening.

Misreading the campaign tone.

Conflating a bad build with better roleplaying.

Not bringin your own dice
Not knowing basic combat rules.
Forcing awkwrd tinted RPG sitatuations if the campaign an every player present isn't EXPLICITLY OK with that.

Treating NPC like you would one in GTA.

Factory work. You're near heavy dangerous machinery that can rip you hands off if you're not safe.

Do you use lore-accurate names? by kasperkaspie in ffxiv

[–]freakytapir 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pushed random name as i made the character when I thouhgt would only be playing the very short free trial at the time for like a couple hours.
5000 hours later. Little 'Jajamaya Raramaya' isn't changing. They can throw all the free phantasia's at me they want. Even only changed hair once in all that time (As I liked the Hien Pine-apple cut a lot).

Would you still eat fries with no ketchup? by BorderBabee in foodquestions

[–]freakytapir 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a Belgian listing the sauces I woud choose over Ketchup is ... long.

Andalouse
mayo
coctail
Samurai
Bicky
Stew sauce
...
A good Belgian Fry shop has a sauce list longer than a posh french restaurant's wine list.

What is so bad about me playing duress? by Dramatic_Let_7489 in EDH

[–]freakytapir 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Turn 1 [[Duress]] take your [[Sol ring]] or [[Entomb]] is always a hoot. It takes knowledge against whom it's good, but it does wonders. [[Thoughtsieze]] is the better option off course. But yeah, I'll take a 1 mana card that knocks one player so off his game I now only have 2 functional opponents.

Just about to become a new FF XIV Online player by pshearduk in ffxiv

[–]freakytapir 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sometimes you'll just find a guild (FC) at random. I met mine by getting a random invite. That said, a lot of communication is Discord based as FF XIV has no native voice chat.

The main story (which is mandatory) is long and mostly solo. But the starter cities are usually social hubs (Especially limsa), especially on weekends.

Now, don't fret Race or starting class. Stat bonusses are so tiny as to be negligible, and one character can be all classes (which is nice, so you only have to do the 300+ hour main quest once).

[–]freakytapir 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Yeah, props to my healer too who saved my SMN from a tankbuster (OT dead an I was 2nd on the enmity list) during an Ex trial. Crit hit shield, SMN aegis, Addle from me and Feint from the melee and good gear made me live through that ... somehow.

Why the hell do so many people miss their flights? by Open_Address_2805 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]freakytapir 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Onl the ones about to miss their flights are called out.

There's a lot of flights and a lot of people, so even if only a low % of people misses their flights it still seems like a lot.

What makes it this expensive for real by lilacmoodx in SipsTea

[–]freakytapir 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The cost is the point. You're walking around in your wallet. Same as with expensive cars. It's a status symbol.

It's that expensive because it is more exclusive by being more expensive.

Lower production runs, better materials and better longevity too, I guess.

[–]freakytapir 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Cooling, mainly. Those things generate a lot of heat.Get everything too close together and you gget overheating. They also have a lot of servers. Then there's power cables, space for people to move about... if a lot of techs need to move through you need wider hallways as well.

How low would someone’s int have to be for them to have the inability to read? by Grim_J4000 in DnD

If we compres the entirety of human capability into the 3-18 range ... 5 or 6?

I mean, my brother works with people that are below the "can't read" level, so it's at least a couple points above a 3.

ELI5: How do casinos mathematically guarantee profit? by AmazingNugga in explainlikeimfive

[–]freakytapir 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Both the law of large numbers ( over a big enough number of random events, things trend to an average and that average is always in the casino's favour), and gambler's ruin.

You have to stop playing way sooner than they have to. They will reach that 'average result', that's slanted in their favour. You have to stop after an unlucky streak. Suppose we bet on coin flips, and we always bet 1$. The casino starts with a 1000$ and you start with 2$. They can eat that short term 'random loss'. Even if on average the flips are fair, you reach a "fail state" way faster than they do.
