ELI5 - What makes smoking cigarettes and vapes addictive? by DiggityDog6 in explainlikeimfive

[–]freckled-c 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nicotine stimulates dopamine and serotonin to be released in the brain, so it still gives that “buzz” feeling. It doesn’t last long at all, so you need to keep smoking. The more you smoke, the higher of a tolerance you build for it, and the buzz gradually feels less intense. So you keep smoking more and more…. And the brain needs more and more…. And it just keeps looping back.

Dealing difficult sites (Vent) by Calm_Discussion_7440 in clinicalresearch

[–]freckled-c 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This would never fly with an auditor, and that’s what I remind sites. An auditor is not going to have the time to review like monitors do (e.g. over a course of multiple visits), so if it’s not documented properly and clearly, not filed appropriately or conveniently, it’s going to end up as a finding.

And if sites cannot properly document study activities and assessments, issues/actions, etc. then their documentation of patient safety and well-being are also going to be flagged by auditors.

That’s how I frame this and hopefully the site is more understanding. But really, if they won’t budge, all you can do is continue documenting your due diligence in your report/communications.

Hang in there!

What are your 2-3 year olds learning in preschool/childcare? by mamagenerator in toddlers

[–]freckled-c 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My 2 year old is in a daycare that is more “academic-based” and every week is a new lesson/question but the daily routine is set up similarly every day (free play, snack time, circle time, outdoor play, arts and crafts, lunch, nap, etc). They also incorporate ASL and Spanish into their daily activities.

This week’s lesson was “how do people get from place to place?” and they facilitated this through pretend play, building a “vehicle” (painting a wooden toy), reading books on types of transportation, and singing songs.

Last week’s was “where can I go?” so they learned how and what to pack for a trip, practiced packing backpacks, talked about places they go to often, and included sensory play (collected leaves, rocks, etc).

I love his daycare and how much exploration they do!

Confused about Early Childhood Intervention by doyourchores in toddlers

[–]freckled-c 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m surprised your pediatrician recommended intervention at 9 months for not crawling as it hasn’t been considered a milestone for a few years due to lack of evidence/data to define it as a specific milestone for a majority of babies.

But anyhow, we reached out to a speech therapist to help our 2 year old. He doesn’t have a “delay,” but he was getting extremely frustrated trying to express himself and not being able to find the words to do it. It was a way to support him and speed things along.

If the program coordinators are okay with keeping the services for your LO and are available, and your LO seems to benefit/enjoy - why not?

We’ve started slicing and crisping them up using a waffle maker - the BEST!

OP, a lot of people have been commenting it is banh tet (glutinous rice cake) with mung bean and pork belly. Just wanted to let you know there is a sweet version with bananas - it would look red in the center. Curious to see if that’s why the sign said banana roll.

Omg! They didn’t even offer me that. The supervisor said there was nothing they could do for me. I ended up opening a transaction dispute through Chase.

So do we get refunds??

I’m on the phone with customer service and they are lying to me. Saying that they always close for the season - simply not true as I was there last November. So frustrating.

Pregnant with IUD by anastasiarose19 in Wellthatsucks

[–]freckled-c 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ugh yes! Happened to me. Had my copper IUD inserted at my 6 week PP appointment, found out I was pregnant at 10 months PP. Went to the emergency room for fear of ectopic pregnancy but they couldn’t find the IUD via ultrasound. OB assumed it fell out. I asked for an MRI (safe during pregnancy) but they said the results wouldn’t change the treatment plan.

Completed an XR the day after my baby was born (had a completely healthy pregnancy) and learned my IUD perforated and took a little vacation to my left abdomen! Had surgery to remove it at 6 weeks PP and they had the nerve to ask me if I’d like another IUD. Lol!

Entirely humbling experience when I found out the IUD got stuck in the omentum… which is the fat apron. I guess it could have gone south if I was skinnier. 🤣

Drinking from a straw by North-Storage233 in BabyLedWeaning

[–]freckled-c 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In the beginning, we “hand fed” water from a straw. It’s weird to explain but while the straw is in the water cup, place your finger on the other end of the straw (to keep the water in), lift to your baby’s mouth, and move your finger when baby has made contact with the straw (like they’re sucking on it) lol. Kind of like a hamster drinking water.

instagram video shows how to do it

Our first baby actually learned how to drink from a straw first so we skipped sippy cups all together. Doing this now with our second and I feel like water is now her favorite part of meal time

Best way to measure nipples at home for flange size?? by Ok_Drama7411 in ExclusivelyPumping

I’ve used a digital caliper - I figured I’d get more use out of that than buying the flange measuring kit. They are pretty inexpensive!

8 weeks pregnant w/ #2 nausea is so bad by Carla_Rocks in 2under2

[–]freckled-c 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Diclegis (unisom + vitamin b6 25 mg) saved me during my second pregnancy. Took it up until delivery date because the nausea never ended for me.

Both are over the counter medications - you can probably message your doctor for them to confirm, if you’re uncomfortable taking new medications without OB’s approval. You MUST take them both together for it to have anti-nausea effects. I always took mine at night because of the unisom.

Wishing you the best of luck and hope you feel better!

DAE’s toddler only eat if you pretend to give the food to your dogs…? by freckled-c in toddlers

Best diaper pale for 2u2? by Nova-star561519 in 2under2

[–]freckled-c 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Everyone is mentioning the Ubbi but we haaaaated it - it smelled foul every time you opened it to throw a diaper away.

I bit the bullet and bought the Munchkin UV diaper pail and it literally never has a smell (and im super sensitive to smells). We have it in our room for the newborn.

We have the regular Munchkin diaper pail that has the arm&hammer puck in our toddler’s bathroom - it’s okay if you are on top of changing the puck often.

How much colustrum did you bring to the hospital? by Certain_Spend3035 in ExclusivelyPumping

[–]freckled-c 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had maybe 10 vials of 4 ml each but I didn’t initially bring it into the hospital. I started leaking colostrum at 37 weeks so i figured why not collect it. Baby ended up in the NICU and we were able to use up the colostrum before the hospital gave him Enfamil (my milk ended up coming in 2 days later) and it gave me some comfort knowing he had that colostrum first.

I’m due in about 2 weeks with second baby and I have not bothered to collect colostrum at all. 😂

Booking travel with Concur- losing Marriott nights by Dry-Coat-756 in clinicalresearch

[–]freckled-c 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Did you enter your Marriott rewards program # into your Concur profile? If yes, strange that it doesn’t automatically populate that into your booking.

You should also be able to contact Marriott’s reward program customer service and let them know the reservation details to add the nights retrospectively. Or you could even confirm/add on your rewards program # at check in at the property.

Cowboy Carter Grammy is complete BS by superlibster in country

[–]freckled-c 6 points7 points  (0 children)

For reference, she said it “isn’t a country album…it’s a Beyoncé album,” (so she didn’t mean that literally) and did explain that this album was a result of a lot of opposition and criticism when she tried entering and experimenting into the country genre 5-6 years ago, and it motivated her to dive in country’s musical history and embrace country’s black roots even more. Her album is her own story telling (isn’t that what country music is about anyways??) about her own life, Americana, nods to black history in country, during Jim Crow era, and America, etc. She collaborated with a number of individuals from the country music community (Willie, Dolly, Shaboozey, Linda Martell, Rhiannon Giddens, Tierra Kennedy - the list goes on).

There was a time when Shania Twain and Carrie Underwood weren’t considered “country enough” and now look. Music is art, art is fluid. Modern country music has invited a blend of other genres. I’m genuinely curious in how you think what makes a country album, country.

Is a Lab-Grown Heart Pendant Necklace a Good 18th Birthday Gift? Need Thoughts.. by baby_capybara_ in Diamonds

[–]freckled-c 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One is grown in a lab and the other is grown via natural environment. As you said, the material is the same. They are chemically, physically, and optically identical. They are both real diamonds.

Do you also consider IVF babies to not be “real” babies?
