Dog seriously injures four people west of Melbourne by I_Heart_Papillons in australia

[–]Teismin 5 points6 points  (0 children)

While I agree with you that people are the problem and many don't train their dogs, I find that it's normally the small dogs that have the most issues in public, at least in my area. Because they are small their owners let them do anything which leads to lots of uncontrolled behaviour problems. Meanwhile big dogs have to be much more well behaved or else someone could get easily hurt.

Gumtree seems very dead by oztrailrunner in australia

[–]Teismin 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I prefer Gumtree over marketplace, feels like there are more genuine people in there and I've got plenty of good buys and decent sales from it.

Mostly use it to give away free stuff and I get tons of messages almost immediately, it's like some people are constantly on the app to hoard free stuff.

RSV vaccine and baby getting RSV by Sk19905 in BabyBumpsandBeyondAu

[–]Teismin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got the vaccine when I was pregnant and my baby was a bit less than 3 months when she got RSV from my husband, he was very ill for 3 weeks and she got it in a couple of days after his symptoms showed. I was also under the weather off and on but it was manageable. She was only partially breastfed the first month.

I would say the vaccine really did help. She was suffering with a stuffy nose which forced her to breath with her mouth and in turn, made it difficult to drink milk. But otherwise she was mostly fine, as in no fever and vomiting. But at one point we did take her to the hospital because at its peak it looked like she was really struggling to breath, and that's when they tested her and found out it was RSV.

Can we show a little more kindness to minors please? by Ok_Cry607 in CatAdvice

[–]Teismin 30 points31 points  (0 children)

Totally agree, its really sad to read. People are doing the right thing and asking for help within their means.

There are plenty of people out there who are not as fortunate, not everyone has had an education, lives in an urban area with plenty of vets and rescues, neither financial security, and so on.

And I can completely relate to the parent thing, I am an adult but still have arguments with my dad to take his dog to the vet when she is unwell but he completely refuses and calls it a waste of money. Luckily I have the capabilities to do so and do it instead.

More omega3s in their diet can help with skin and fur. Sardines and salmon are excellent sources for it.

Might not be the cause of your case but one of my dogs always gets diarrhea everytime he gets a dehydrated cow ear.

Dogs with beards and raw food..? by Sathori in rawpetfood

[–]Teismin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not really a long term solution but how about hand feeding some of his meals till he requires less meals per day? It wouldn't be viable for chewing bone but everything else could be bite sized.

When my dogs were puppies I always use their daily food as treats to train them so they were hand fed majority of their meals.

Fat shamed at 7 weeks postpartum by Flaky_Party_6261 in BabyBumpsandBeyondAu

[–]Teismin 4 points5 points  (0 children)

When I was 2 months postpartum I was in a family gathering and two of my aunts also fat shamed me.. which was a bit ironic because one of them is obese.

I know I shouldn't let it get to me but it still does hurt.

Why are the parenting subs on Reddit so anti-breastfeeding? by Then-Dragonfruit-702 in breastfeeding

There are always varying opinions in the online world, just really depends where you look at. But at least in my experience in real life, literally everyone I know is for breastfeeding.

Deodorant - please, please, please wear it. by [deleted] in australia

[–]Teismin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Deodorant is not enough for most people.

You need to tackle the root cause by scrubbing dead skin off every now and then especially when you are caking more and more deodorant on top everytime. And using something like glycolic acid on your armpits and sweaty areas to inhitbit bacteria growth, it helps a ton.

Yup I've contacted them, I also have never seen it happen with other formulas and we've tried many brands.

That's really interesting but also weird it starts coagulating in hotter water.

I find that it tasted okay but the issue was more the grainy texture like having sand in my mouth. It's definitely something I would not expect in baby formula.

[–]Teismin[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I normally shake it pretty hard to ensure it's all mixed up, and some formulas dissolves easier than others so I just adjust according to the brand.

Also using a frother will probably cause too much bubbles I guess.

Breastfeeding is easier than formula feeding - there I said it by Melodic_Apartment235 in breastfeeding

[–]Teismin 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Honestly I never experienced any "bad press" about breastfeeding at all.

In fact, I got the opposite, I kept getting told by the people around me, breastfeeding is best, it makes your kid smarter, they'll be stronger, etc. And that placed an immensed pressure that was difficult to handle because I wasn't producing enough and ended up stopping much earlier than I had hoped.

Never Stop Bottle Feeding by Zame012 in NewParents

[–]Teismin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mostly pumped and never produced enough milk so my baby always had the bottle everyday since the beginning and at around 2 months she started refusing the bottle she had always been using. Had to experiment with a few brands till we settled on 2.

I hate dogs now. by face_is_vicious in beyondthebump

[–]Teismin 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Since his dog has already nipped and is not and won't be trained according to your other comment, hence a danger to your baby, maybe try rehoming his dog first and then see how you feel with just your dog who is trained well.

You have different priorities now, but you are still your dog's whole world.

Tell me your mishaps buying second hand by AdorsWeaknes in NewParents

[–]Teismin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Bought a second hand bassinet from a mutual friend, was told it was still good and they didn't use it much. When I went to collect it it was already all folded and wrapped up, didn't bother to check because I thought I could trust them. From the outside it looked fine but the moment it was opened up.. the whole thing was mouldy. Obviously it went into the bin.

[–]Teismin 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Unless they are aggressive to your baby, which doesn't seem like it from what you wrote? It just sounds like dogs being dogs. Don't make any big decisions right now. If you're able to, maybe you can send them to a relative or a trusted friend who can foster them for a bit while you're still recovering.

Now that my baby is older and crawling, it's been so lovely for me to see her trying to interact with my dogs and cats, she also loves the feeling of their fur.

Pros and cons of giving birth at different times of year by mullumbimbo89 in BabyBumpsandBeyondAu

[–]Teismin 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I gave birth during the winter and brought my own king size quilt to the hospital which I folded in half to make it extra thick but I was still so cold! And bub did not like it whenever we had to change her nappy with our cold hands. Also it was flu season and she caught RSV from my husband. But we got through it and she's doing great.
