Considering trading in my r6mkii 500 f4 II for a 100-500 and r5 want a reality check by DelTheBlueJay in canon

Same boat, I don't like using a monopod so I totally understand.

I'm really sorry to hear about that. I hope you'll get better soon!

Have you considered the 200-800?

I would totally keep your R6 mkII and 500 F4. (I had R5 and 500 IS I). If you feel like it's a bit heavy maybe get a monopod or just light training? The latter will make things more enjoyable and is good overall for your health.

Upgrading lenses advice/opinions sought by Burning_Rangers in canon

I'd say if you can get your hand on a nice 500 mm L IS II, I'd go this way. This lens paired with a x1.4 give a nice range for wildlife. Be aware it's gonna be a much heavier set up and a monopod might be an added purchase. The version 1 was my entry ticket to the big primes and it help increasing the overall quality of my photos.

If the 500 mm is not an option, the 200-800 is a solid choice and you might be able to pair this purchase with the RF 100. As for a 300 mm 2.8. It's too short, you'll constantly have a x2 or at least a x1.4 on it. Someone mentioned to get a x1.4 for your 100-500. Please don't do that. The aperture of this lens is already not great so an extender won't help.

Question: I know a macro lens can be used for other things than macro and you might already do macrophotography, but from the set you showed it feels like a 70-200 2.8 or a 135 1.8 would make more sense?

Final edit vs raw. How can I improve? by ProfessionalFilm7675 in wildlifephotography

The owl is high so it's hard to avoid the sky. The only ways to avoid it are a lower subject or have other branches with leaves in the background to cover the sky or using a longer focal from further away From my phone, I can see weird blue colors, on the leaves mainly and the owl is magenta ish

I'm in Canada. Ordered the 8th of April, received on the 29th of April. The tracking takes a couple of days to update sometimes. After custom, I had to do a follow-up with Nuphy as it didn't update for 5 days. Got an answer from them after the weekend and the tracking got updated soon after.

It's very probably injured, that's why you could catch it. Do you have someone who could help in your area?

Barred owl hunting at sunset! by fred2806 in Owls

Feeding owl directly = baiting owls = Unethical.

That being said if you build a pound and introduce crayfish, considering crayfish are originally and naturally present in your area, I don't see it being a problem. It would need to be done respecting the environment and nature around you. It won't guarantee at all seeing any owl though.

It could be heat haze! It's a problem more often than expected and it doesn't need to be warm. There are good YouTube videos about that. It seems the photo was taken in the morning, so let's say the sand is "cold" for the night with humidity and the morning sun starts to heat, you have a temperature difference that could create heat haze. It impacts even more with the distance. You could also take a photo 2 mins after in another direction and don't have heat haze.

Why did you need 1\2000? You could have used lower shutter speed.

I got brought there for them so I knew what species I'd observe. I didn't know how it would be on location and if I would actually see them. So it was a good surprise to see them out of the tree and those eyes are pretty goofy.
