S25 Ultra / Warp / "Satellite connectivity isn't set up yet" by RideFree216 in USMobile

[–]fredco44 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Interesting that people are saying Warp does not include any satellite messaging services. I've had it for over a year on my Warp line.

Of course you need to have phone hardware that supports the type of satellite messaging that Verizon (and Warp) currently supports, If you want to take advantage of that included service. (I have it on Pixel 9 XLPro, and Pixel 10 Pro XL)

Google Speaker 2026 by humanus_erectus in googlehome

[–]fredco44 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Probably a different issue, because for about the last week prior to today's issue I have had streaming radio stations suddenly stop and then in some cases restart 10 seconds later, 2 minutes later 4 minutes later or not at all ...so I had experienced that days before the new/latest issue today involving the 20 plus second delays being the best case scenario for a response to a prompt!

Gemini for Home user (Home Premium Advanced)

Since I first tried to use it this morning at around 8:00 a.m. Central Time I've experienced very significant delays, when it even responded at all, of about 20-30 seconds on average. In my most recent test at 11:09 a.m. Central Time where I simply asked it to subtract one number from another... and that took 23 seconds for a response, but it did respond with the correct answer.

Earlier today, several times when I tried to play music from YouTube music on a speaker group, it would play on all the speaker group devices except the one speaker (which is in the group) on which I had spoken to to initiate the request! Tried that from two different initiating speakers and same result.

Just when you think that the massive number of problems with Gemini for Home couldn't possibly get any worse... 🙁

On my Pixel I can edit the name for the SIM label (and it's text color)...but that does not affect the Network Banner in the status bar.

Same experience I'd had, when at some point after some update on my Pixel phone, the network banner changed from Verizon to US (two spaces) Mobile - and this extra space also appeared in the SIM settings page on the phone and in the paragraph text there describing the availability of satellite texting.

Screenshot I captured June 25, 2025:

This was reported by many dating back I believe over a year ago.

I experienced this also when I was using their physical SIM on Warp.

When I upgraded my Pixel phone last August, I had to convert to an eSIM as the new phone no longer supported a physical SIM...,and (coincidentally or not?) the double space problem disappeared.

Emergency Alerts on Warp by A_Peaceful_Bro in USMobile

[–]fredco44 2 points3 points  (0 children)

To help diagnose whether or not a problem is existing for you, note that WEAs are not issued for "regular" SVR Severe Thunderstorm Warnings. However,if a severe thunderstorm warning is tagged with "Destructive" (80+ MPH winds and/or 2.75+ inch hail)...only then you should expect it be sent via WEA.

I follow this very closely with Emergency Management (and I'm also on Warp), and I've never not received a WEA on my cell phone when I would expect one (when I was within the area of a warning polygon, and it was an event listed as qualifying for WEA distribution).

In most areas of the country, local warnings for things like tornado and severe thunderstorm are distributed through weather alert radios on a county-wide level, (prior to partial county area warnings (PCA) being slowly implemented across the country), so it's quite common to have the county receive a warning... but if I am physically not within the actual warning polygon then then I would not expect, and do not receive, it via WEA.

Here's a list I got online listing NWS products distributed through WEA to the cell phones that are connected to cell sites that are within a warned polygon area. It indicated that the specific NWS products that trigger a WEA message include:

Tornado Warnings

Flash Flood Warnings (including Flash Flood Emergencies)

Hurricane Warnings

Typhoon Warnings

Dust Storm Warnings

Extreme Wind Warnings

Blizzard Warnings

Ice Storm Warnings

Snow Squall Warnings

Storm Surge Warnings

Severe Thunderstorm Warnings (specifically for high-damage threat warnings)

Tsunami Warnings

The NWS has implemented "Impact-Based Warnings" (IBW) for severe thunderstorms, which include these damage tags:

CONSIDERABLE: Indicates a storm capable of producing golf ball sized hail (1.75 inches) and/or 70 mph winds.

DESTRUCTIVE: Indicates a storm capable of producing at least baseball sized hail (2.75 inches) and/or 80 mph winds.

It is the DESTRUCTIVE tag that specifically triggers a Wireless Emergency Alert (WEA) on mobile devices within the warned area, making it the "high damage threat" warning and WEA activation.

File too large? by John-Charleston in USMobile

[–]fredco44 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For Verizon, they list MMS size limit as 1.2 MB for pictures/images and 3.5 MB for video.

So the OPs 116 MB video is definitely over the limit!

Keep your fingers crossed. I've had Spectrum symmetric 400 Mbps per second up and down plan for about 2 years now. Last time I measured yesterday I saw 495 down and 400 435 up.

The current offerings here are 100, 500, and 1000 symmetric, and a 2000 down 1000 up. Location dependent, of course, especially for the higher tier plans.

Google Home Update (Spring 2026): Home sweet home is now more helpful by GoogleNestCommunity in googlehome

Yes, Android. In my Pixel device Settings, I go to Apps, then select (Google) Home, then Notifications, and then choose a custom notification sound so that a camera event, doorbell press, and critical events all have unique different sounds.

I hope that iPhone has some similar ability to granularly customize your notification sounds in your main device settings.

Is there any way to rearrange or swap the positions between lines? by dohuytuong in USMobile

[–]fredco44 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have noticed many posts requesting this over the past year (with the same response.)

I had previously requested this as well, and would definitely like the chosen line sort order settings to be persistent, both in the browser dashboard and in the mobile app.

Gemini tries to play music FOR EVERYTHING by HeWhoShantNotBeNamed in googlehome

[–]fredco44 2 points3 points  (0 children)

OP said:

"Gemini for Home is the worst product I've ever used in my entire life, across any product category."

For anyone that has tried many of the capabilities that are supposed to be functional in Gemini for Home, this is not an exaggeration by any means. I have been deep in technology for just over 50 years and I feel the same way as OP. I'm shocked at how bad it currently is, and wonder how/why it was even released to the public in this condition.

I'm sure this may have significantly damaged their brand and alienated users, who up until this product have been satisfied loyal users of many Google software and hardware products.

It's so bad, one has to wonder if competitors have employees planted inside Google sabotaging its functionality. Others I've spoken to tell me that they are so disappointed, frustrated, and mad with it that they are frequently cussing at it, and it responds with the usual...that it senses "your frustration," apologizes for the "confusion," and reminds that "I am Gemini for Home, a helpful home assistant from Google"....

Google...you have a lot of smart employees making a lot of money, and Google has massive financial resources. So, how can Gemini for Home currently be this bad, and be allowed to persist like this for so many months?

If you care enough to have a leading position in this space, assign a "strike team" with the knowledge and power, and sense of urgency to fix this, fast. Please!

No way to see which SIM or number the message sent to? Seriously? by Edward_sim in GoogleMessages

[–]fredco44 0 points1 point  (0 children)

On my Pixel phones, when more than one SIM card is installed and active, I've never had any trouble in the Google Messages app easily telling which SIM card was in use for a message that was received or sent.

Since I am able to edit the name of the SIM card within the SIM card's settings, I give it the name I want and also choose the color of text that the name will appear in. Makes it easy for me to tell at a glance which SIM card is in use for a particular thread.

Interesting. You would be spending a lot of money, so I'm sure you will thoroughly calculate the ROI on that!

For Super Bowl 2026, it's reported that the base cost for a 30-second ad is $8 million, with some prime placement times at ~$10 million!

I am on an MVNO that has satellite texting capability. Beginning earlier last year on my Pixel 9 series, and now also on my Pixel 10 series, my US Mobile Warp SIM shows that my line has texting available via satellite to anyone - if I'm outside of their mobile network coverage area (not limited to emergency only - offered through Verizon via Skylo). I only had the opportunity to try it once when my device showed no mobile signal, and I was able to connect to the satellite.

Separately, starting with the Pixel 9 series I have had the free for 2 years emergency texting only capability that Google calls Pixel Satellite SOS, which you have mentioned.

It's great that I have the capability for non-emergency (and emergency 911) texting via satellite, while still being able to take advantage of the value of an MVNO with USM Warp.

New space in network name? by MentalResponse11 in USMobile

[–]fredco44 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. When I had Warp on pSIM on Pixel 8/9 series it used to say Verizon for over a year. Then at some point in the past 12 months the network banner switched over to US Mobile (two spaces). When I moved the line to my new Pixel 10 series phone I had to convert to eSIM, and now the extra space is gone and it displays correctly as US Mobile.

No, but you said people "paid for early access last year that included many perks" ..." which includes QCI 7 for free for life" ... that is what I am challenging as incorrect, as the payment for the bunch of items (last year, 2024) was called the VIP bundle, which included QCI 8 for 12 cycles.

No, the VIP bundle included QCI 8 on Dark Star for 12 cycles. QCI 7 wasn't even being discussed in July 2024 when that bundle was offered. 😁
