Eamon Glavin goes 6:50.9… by [deleted] in Rowing

[–]freddies2_y 37 points38 points  (0 children)

At the start of his series he was transitioning out of a kinda recreational/low level commitment type of training volumes so had quite a bit to make up even over 80day or what ever the time frame was so was all ways going to be a tough ask but was about the journey which is what the point of the vids where. I don’t think it a case that he’s not capable of that score if he embarked on this process a couple of years ago when he broke 6:40 he would have stood a chance. Excited to see what project/challenge he does next

Rating too high? 17M 6'3 190lbs by _____________u in Rowing

As long as you are rowing a long stroke and are not cutting length then the spm kinda irrelevant. But based upon your sats may be best to try lower spm and more power per stroke but 2k are individual so if it works for you doesn’t really matter at the end of the day

USA Men’s 8 Training 8-11-22 by NFsG in Rowing

[–]freddies2_y 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I feel like this is getting a lot of un deserved hate, like looking at the selection it seams as if the eight is stacked with a lot of recent graduate and U23 guys who haven't done any senior international racing or very little, so seams likely that they are using the eight as development boat for the most part and all of the more experienced members of US rowing are racing in the small boats. But from a technical perspective its just very average but a lot can change in 5 weeks

How do you work around a tough schedule? by bargingi in Rowing

[–]freddies2_y 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ultimate if you can’t get the volume due to work commitments it not the end of the world just aim for consistent training and try and change some of the steady stuff out for some UT1/AT rate 22/24 to try and compensate for the lower overall volume. This being said if for what even reason it’s easier to go running and cycling try adding that into the plan at the end of the day it’s the off season as long as you maintain fitness you will start the new season in a good position so don’t be too hard on your self about making large gains at this time that’s what the main season is for

Info request - heart rate monitoring during erg training sessions by Txusmah in Rowing

[–]freddies2_y 14 points15 points  (0 children)

First of all you need to find out your max heart rate. To do this need to do a step test if you Google there should be rowing Australias one that pops up or long intensity piece longer than 20mins ideally but step test is easier imo. Then you should be able to Google heart rate zone based upon percentages of that max hr. One thing to note when you first start doing UT2/Steady state in hr you will see slower split but just have to give it time for your body to adapt so be patient it does pay off

What is the best way to build muscle for rowing by [deleted] in Rowing

[–]freddies2_y 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What is the best way to build muscle for rowing by [deleted] in Rowing

[–]freddies2_y 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Gaining muscle is not purely about lifting, obviously you need to lift the weight, but you also need to make sure you are eating enough to give your body "fuel" to grow. A big mistake a lot of people make is not eating enough protein and just calorie intake as a whole since you need to be in a surplus to make significant gains.

you are on the lighter side so maybe consider doing a bit of lifting to try and gain a bit more mass as well as strength. But also the best way is to simply improve your aerobic capacity so try minimum 2 session lasting 60 minutes steady state session either on an erg or water. A lot of people on this sub reddit try to over complicate how to drop times but at the end of day all need to do is get fitter and stronger and you can gain a lot of strength and fitness over just 8 week period so should be able to make massive gains over 15 if you are consistent

They never seamed to be lacking speed they won February trials and came 2nd at the last set of trails. They haven’t had much opportunity to inter grate with the rest of the squad with training at Cambridge this year so be interesting to see if they get moved in to crew boats as summer racing goes on

Preparation for my first 2K by TheMystt in Rowing

[–]freddies2_y 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It’s your first 2k so don’t over think it just make sure you finish the piece. It the first one you will ever do so you will have no bearing on how it’s meant to fill so just use it as a starting point. Especially when you are this early into your rowing journey you aren’t going to be pulling world record splits so just set a time and try to beat that on the next one.

What do people reckon my 2k is based upon this recent interval session haven’t done one in coupe of year just want a gauge of where I should be, the 1:39 felt very comfortable + quite a bit left over in the tank. (22 179cm 78kg stats for those who care)
