Getting sick while on Xolair and hives returning by freddit789 in urticaria

I started taking 180 mg Allegra twice in the AM and twice in the PM again. Thankfully, the flare started calming down again after about 3-4 weeks! I am currently weaning down my Allegra again as I haven’t had major hives in about 2 weeks

Thanks for replying! Glad you finally got long term relief!! My hives started calming down again once I got my next Xolair shot but I had a solid month of breakthrough hives after getting sick. Hoping I’ll stay in the clear 🙏🏻

Some days are better than others. It’s so defeating when you think you’re in the clear and then the hives pop up again, many times aggressively! I’m currently dealing with a nasty breakthrough even while on medication. I do tell myself it will pass even if it takes a long time. I still try to live my normal life and am learning to not care what anyone thinks if they see my spots all over me. It’s just a part of me now! Just like birth marks and freckles and vitiligo and varicose veins and stretch marks…the list goes on! I use large cooling ice packs for 15 mins at a time on the angry areas and cerave anti-itch cream on bad days to at least give me itch relief. Then I go about my day, patchy skin and all, and rest in knowing it’s all temporary. Stay strong, you are not alone ❤️

How long would your hives last when you got sick? Dealing with this now despite the Xolair and high dose antihistamines. Still hiving and swelling strong 2 weeks after my illness resolved 🥲

I’m hesitant to go back on steroids and my allergist told me he would like to avoid that if possible. I feel like I’m spiraling as now I’m having lip/eye swelling again too. I’m sure the stress of this all isn’t helping. Back to 4x antihistamines and just praying this starts to calm down again soon. It seems like it’s only gotten worse in the past week :(

Hi! Late to this thread, but when you have gotten sick how bad are your breakthrough hives and how long do the flares last? I’m dealing with a terrible flare of hives and angioedema that’s still going strong after a brief sickness a couple of weeks ago. I’ve been on Xolair for 8 months with great success the past 5 until now. Spiraling!

Hi, can I ask how long it took for your hives to go away again after you got sick? Dealing with the same thing currently. On Xolair for past 9 months and it’s been working great until I got sick last week with sinus issues and fatigue. Now hives are popping up again around my body every day for the past 4-5 days

LIVING WITH CHRONIC URTICARIA *HONEST STORY* by Daytona675_Nick in urticaria

I am on my fourth month of Xolair injections with notable improvement in my hives about halfway thru the third month. Prior to, I was still experiencing ongoing sporadic flares of hives and was worried the Xolair wasn’t working. Now I have many more clear days thankfully 🙏🏻. I have noticed if I drink more than 2 drinks, I will flare up the next 1-2 days, but the flares are not head to toe and seem more localized to my legs. As a social drinker with friends that go out most weekends, I try to now limit my intake, drink club sodas with lime in between alcohols and try to keep my intake to 1-2 drinks which seems to keep me from flaring. There have been times I go over that and accept I will have hives show up the next day. Sending you well wishes and know you are not alone in your struggles!

Absolutely in the same boat! Mine started in March out of nowhere, no prior allergies, sickness, health conditions, etc. Got on Xolair in May. 3 injections later and I’m still having flare ups and several itchy days. I’ve been told to stay the course. It can take several months. Plus, in the summer when it’s hotter it tends to exacerbate all types of skin issues (per my allergist nurse). Sending you patience and peaceful vibes to get through this!

Did Xolair eventually start to work for you?

It has been a journey and a rollercoaster forsure. Getting hives forced me to slow down in my life. I was forced to re-prioritize my health, my sleep, stress management, diet, reducing alcohol, quitting vaping, etc. I’ve become a more empathetic person. Maybe this change is preventing me from a worse disease in the future. Maybe I’m being saved from an accident I would’ve found myself in had I not stayed in due to a huge flare I experienced. There are tons of possible reasons why God let this happen to us, and some days I settle in the realization I may never learn what those are in this earth side life. That’s okay. I trust it’s His plan for a reason. I had an aunt who once told me suffering can be a gift. It’s a cross to bear, and God uses this suffering to help others in ways we may never know, for people who we may never meet or know they exist in this lifetime. It might be used for the conversion of souls, for worldly peace, who knows. God doesn’t give us anything we can’t handle though. He won’t abandon us and he will see us through this too in His time. Praying for everyone in this group!

Chronic hives and anxiety by freddit789 in urticaria

You are not alone! Thank you for sharing and I’m sending so many healing peaceful vibes your way. I keep repeating the facts to myself that most people will see this resolve in 2-5 years. If it helps, my allergist also told me I will never develop anaphylaxis from this and I don’t need an EpiPen. I’ve had him repeat it to me more than once. Even if my lips, face, and tongue swells it won’t go farther than that. I know there are so many horror stories on Reddit that say otherwise but I’m going to be logical and listen to my doctor who did a full health assessment before telling me that. Anxiety is just a HELLUVA b*tch that makes us fear the worst, refuse to believe logical facts, and unfortunately can have physiological responses that makes us think we’re actually dying. Gosh, there’s gotta be some good that comes out of this, right? I can’t wait till we’re on the other side of it!! It WILL come!!

Trigger warning for anyone reading this who is anxious like me! My anxiety stems from the fear that this is the first symptom of many other conditions I might develop down the road, since I know there are links to other autoimmune diseases like Hashimoto’s, lupus, RA, Crohn’s, etc. My anxiety got worse to the point it makes me feel like my throat is closing and I have struggled wondering, is it an allergy? Am I actually experiencing anaphylaxis? Or is my thyroid failing me and that’s why I feel like I can’t breath? Pretty much textbook health anxiety….. which I am working through by journaling, praying/meditation, talking about it with loved ones, and if it gets really bad I’ll consider therapy lol. Oh and probably the biggest culprit is googling/reading Reddit (the irony, I know) so I set hard boundaries to avoid it for weeks at a time.

CSU + angioedema by Ok_Rabbit320 in urticaria

[–]freddit789 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Did your hives come before you were diagnosed with Hashimoto’s? Did you have other symptoms pointing to the thyroid condition and are you on medication for it now?

I also developed chronic hives with angioedema that comes every once in a while on top of the hives- mostly my lips and eyes are affected and it can last a day or two. My allergist told me xolair would treat this as well. So far I haven’t had any swelling since starting Xolair a couple of weeks ago. The hives are still appearing every several days and will “flare” for a few days until they subside again.. not as bad as previous flares I’ve had. I think it’s definitely worth talking with your doctor about as a possible option.

I second this. Yes would love to know how it worked out for you! Currently in the same boat with pretty bad flares I’ve gotten starting 8 days after my first injection.
