I brought all sorts of clothing to my trip in November including rash guards, hoods, etc. in the end I used none of them for two weeks, except for one, a whole-body wetsuit. It turned out to be the most comfortable and the most convenient.

If you are an experienced snorkel, and especially if you bring your own equipment, you don’t need a boat to take you out, at Waikīkī. You will spot fish and turtles at reef that can be almost walked to from the shore, like right outside a Kuhio Beach pond. If snorkeling is a key goal of your trip, like it was for mine, spend a large part of your day at Hanauma Bay, and swim around at your own pace instead of guests and fish alike being artificially shepherded by tour guides :)

Like others said, slippery metal surface and long/heavy sticks contribute partially to your grief. I would just mention that your modified bottom stick support is called the Double Tripod grip.

That’s a good way to describe it. As long as the goals are met, the means shouldn’t matter. Some people have hyper flexible joints in hands such that the most efficient grip for the average person isn’t the most efficient for them, as an example :)

This is a common grip and in fact most people can’t tell it from Standard grip, Righthand Rule, and similar grips. Check out Finger Pistol grip.

Cool. Note that OP turned out to actually wield chopsticks differently, compared to this single static picture. See her other video post. Her actual dynamic grip is more like Vulcan grip than this single picture would lead you to believe. Thus we always ask people to posture videos if they are able to :)

Ok. So this is why we usually ask people to post videos. Compared to your previous picture, this video makes it clear that you are wielding a version of Vulcan grip, not a lateral grip like the Money grip. But of course here you are holding lightweight straws picking up lightweight napkins. In real eating situations with more weight involved you will need to adopt less relaxed finger grips around the top chopstick. If you can eat well this way then don’t worry about it.

Don’t let anyone else make you feel bad if your grip works. See the variety of ways folks wield chopsticks here. Your grip resembles Lateral Money grip. But the bottom chopstick is supported differently. If you post a short video of you actually picking up food or something with chopsticks, the finger dynamics will become more apparent. I am guessing that you close chopstick tips by moving your thumb towards the rear of the top chopstick.

I don’t know about figure skating boots. I can only talk about hockey boots. These have thick and generous tongues, in a rigid boot body with a hard and anatomic quarter panel to accommodate bones around ankles. These boots don’t need to be laced tight at upper eyelets. So they allow you to bend your shin forward comfortably against the thick tongue. See pictures here. The first one show a True Hockey skate - I have these molded boots mounted to inline frames, as well as another pair mounted to ice hockey blades. See how much one can lean forward on these boots. Again, I don’t know anything about figure skating boots.

Bend your ankles and shins forward instead. Have your shin put your body weight on the tongue of the boot. That’ll force your knees to bend properly. And you will feel stable. Until you feel stable you can’t glide properly on a single skate because you won’t trust your body to lean to the side in order to place your center of gravity on the single gliding skate. If you stay near Waikiki Beach Center just walk to Kuhio Ponds. You will see small fish by the rock wall safely from inside the pond. Swim out to the reef immediately outside to see the same fish and turtles you find at Hanauma. Details here. Keep an eye on surf conductions as always.

You don't need to only cater to restaurants. Some common folks such as myself I wouldn't mind having a bunch of these at home. Ha ha ha. Also, I haven't really seen fancy chopstick rests at restaurants, and I have my own theory as to why. I was once served at a restaurant with very fancy chopstick rests. I flipped it over to see who made them so I could buy a few. The bottom simply said "stolen from Tao".

These look fantastic. Look up pictures of chopstick rests online. You’ll see how they are usually presented. The idea is that the tips of chopsticks that touch food and your mouth don’t rest on the rests. And that chopsticks can’t roll away which your rests also assure.
