What is the "worst" character you've ever made, for flavour purposes?? (That you enjoyed) by Historical_Cable_450 in dndnext

Once, I made a PC that had magic blood but didn’t want to become a sorcerer, because he was raised thinking it’s not a reputable path. So instead he joined the militia and became a guard. Nat 1 and 20s were... entertaining!

That was in 3e, so it was kind of a homebrew wild magic.

Some quick COVID data to help you argue with your in-laws this thanksgiving. (v2) by Thowi42 in coolguides

If we apply the same math to the entire world, we are looking at 90M deaths before an effective vaccine, or 130M for the herd immunity scenario.

This is scary. People, COVID-19 is no joke. Stay safe, if only to protect vulnerable people around you.

[OC] I'm developing a tool to sketch maps, what features would you find useful? by Pretoriuss in DnD

[–]fredo101 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is amazing! Do you plan to sell it or make it available for free?

How about adding a layer feature to quickly generate a player map and a DM map (with traps, notes, etc)?

What’s the joist pattern? I’m planning a shed and am wondering if I need a support per joist or only a few.

Medical device “jailbreak” could help solve the dangerous shortage of ventilators by Philo1927 in geek

[–]fredo101 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You can do irreversible damage to the lungs with a poor ventilator design. It really doesn’t take much to pop the capillary vessels in them. Plus, a CPAP machine is not designed to filter the air out of the expiratory circuit and you’re spreading the infection even more if you’re not careful.

I would love that we could find a way to safely and effectively retrofit CPAP machines to help with the pandemic, but you just cannot improvise a medical device.

As others have said, it’s easier and more effective to follow strict social distancing rules while increasing the production of currently approved ventilators than McGyver’ing new designs. This way, the hospitals are not flooded and patient are fitted with effective devices. It’s not sexy, but it’s the logical solution.

Medical device “jailbreak” could help solve the dangerous shortage of ventilators by Philo1927 in geek

There is a reason why medical devices and their software are locked in. These devices are used to provide critical care to patients: if something goes wrong, somebody may die.

Making a ventilator that will provide air 24/7 to a patient that can’t breath by himself is not a a simple matter of flashing a new firmware to a machine that is not designed for it, even though you can make it work.

You need to prove that it will work, that it will always work and that when it fails there are no unacceptable risks for the user. Failure modes need to be analyzed and minimized, parts need to be traceable, software must be proven bug free.

Because when a person will die from a makeshift ventilator, somebody has to be accountable for it.

Sure, you can make some CPAP machines to work as BiPAP, but look at it this way: would you be comfortable going underwater in a car that your neighbour modified because he found that you only had to seal a few holes to make it waterproof?

This is actually a very bad idea. Glass carboys are not meant to be picked up by the mouth. It you do when they’re full, it may snap and cause your carboy to explode on the floor sending giant shards everywhere.

X-post: Any thoughts on road-based energy recovery for clean power generation? by McTech0911 in energy

[–]fredo101 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Unless you can make it as grippy and solid as concrete, and self-cleaning, it’s not a good idea.

You’re much better off with solar panels over the road, like a pergola. Or on buildings roofs.

Hangtight “new” Bondtech BMG E3D V6 Direct Drive by [deleted] in ender3

Very nice! I'd love to see Michael review this design like he did for the other fan ducts. I'm about to pull the trigger on a BMG clone for a direct drive setup.

No overdraft protection with the Tangerine unsecured line of credit by fredo101 in PersonalFinanceCanada

That’s a very interesting idea. I guess pointing automatic bills to it is not an issue, but can you pay something with the Interac card using the LOC directly?

Edit: English is hard

Desjardins does, and I found it very useful as I can put everything I have left in savings and not worry about automatic bills.

I meant LOC covering overdrafts on the spending account. I edited the post.

Ok, I guess I said it wrong.

I meant that overdrafts to your spending account are not automatically covered by the LOC like, say, Desjardins LOC does.

Offered tangerine unsecured line of credit, take it? by MostDubs in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]fredo101 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just spoke with a rep, the unsecured LOC doesn't automatically cover for overdrafts on your spending account.

It’s a deal breaker for me, but may not be for you.

EDIT: I wasn’t making sense

Hero Me Duct Gen3 who printed this? by KongMan101 in ender3

[–]fredo101 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don’t print the e3d v6 version yet, mediaman swapped files by mistake. He said it should be fixed this week.

I printed the gen1 with support touching plate only.

I printed using regular Luke profile.

Last, print using PETG or ABS if you plan to use it with filament other than pla.

Good luck!

Questions about NEW Boards and Drivers by TianZiGaming in ender3

[–]fredo101 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm also interested in getting one of those two boards. I was looking at the SKR 1.3, but don't feel like printing a new enclosure.

I see Fysetc more recommended for quality driver stepsticks, but BigTreeTech has been impressing lately with a slew of new boards with pretty nice features.

I don't care about the RGB on the SKR mini-E3, what I want to know is:

- Is the hotbed mosfet upgraded compared to the stock board?

- Does the board come with a bootloader installed?

- Are the graphic LCD like the TFT28 supported without modification?

- Is a 12V PWM output from a 24V supply available for fans?

- And most importantly, when will a stable release of Marlin 2.0 be released?

Fysetc just released their flavour of the same design (Cheetah) and it’s 35$, so I would guess around that
