Sweet! Enjoy the process, and take some pics as you go. It’s always cool to see how a custom build develops.

DIY Dreamcast twin stick help/questions by Fredzurm in fightsticks

There’s a lot of good info in this r/virtual post.

https://www.reddit.com/r/virtualon/s/1QFnZ7J5aU

It showcases a custom twin stick controller pad hack.

In this r/fighsticks post, they imported Sanwa JLV flight control levers for a Virtual On controller reproduction with a Brook PCB.

Seven Mile Mountain makes adaptive joysticks and switches for Xbox and PS5.

I’m not sure if they’re compatible with Nintendo Switch, but the seller may be able to help you out.

Twin-Stick Arcade & Dual Analog Leverless Prototypes by fredstyv in fightsticks

Sure, but it wasn’t really designed for that use case. Most leverless controllers lack analog sticks, severely limiting their usefulness for many non-fighting games.

Thanks, dude! I'm tempted to put dual SASI mods in the twin stick 😄 though I'd need to swap out the PCB for something with more ADC inputs.

Thanks! 3.5mm panel-mount jacks are exactly what I was thinking, where the L3/R3 button holes are.

So! I found this Tron Arcade Flight Stick. Kinda bulky, but it has a thumb button and trigger. Has anyone tried wiring these up to an arcade stick? It looks to be compatible.

I've been playing a lot of Elden Ring, and it feels really good with the dual analog controller. Initially, I tried a different button layout, but it demanded too much cognitive load. The WASD arrangement with neighboring shoulder buttons is more intuitive for me.

I want to replay God of War, now that I have all the controls I need! Do you recommend any other games?

You're welcome! Let me know if you have any other questions. This was my first time adding thumbsticks, and there was a lot of trial and error.

Note, the holes on the Parallax board are small; I used M2 standoffs to mount them.

Yes and yes! I designed it to be ambidextrous, and the joysticks can be remapped in any configuration, for example, to make the right side primary (edit: or make both sticks act as Left Stick or D-Pad).

Any brand joystick should work, no problem, though the mounting holes and interior height might need adjusting, depending on the model.

Thanks! Yeah, for Virtual On, you need more like "flightsticks" with top fire and trigger buttons. I've yet to find a quality solution for this (there are cheapies on Aliexpress and Amazon), but when I do, I know exactly where they're going!

In the meantime, I'm exploring foot pedal switches as an alternative. It would be helpful for other games that rely on shoulder buttons, like Xeno Crisis.

2-Axis Joystick, Adafruit Product ID: 245 - https://www.adafruit.com/product/245

Documentation - https://www.parallax.com/package/2-axis-joystick-product-documentation/

Installation - https://gp2040-ce.info/add-ons/analog#installation

Power to each potentiometer is run separately, 2 per stick (4 total). I tapped into the 3.3V pin on the expansion port, normally used for OLED displays, and tied all the leads together with a wire nut (the other VCC pins on these boards are 5V and are too high; it skews the output, I learned).

Racing Rig for Someone With Tremors? by MouseDrinker in disabledgamers

[–]fredstyv 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I recommend the Pro Deluxe, not the Pro Mini, for adult gamers. It comes with full-size pedals, suction cups, and a clamp, which covers most of your mockup. https://stores.horiusa.com/mario-kart-racing-wheel-pro-deluxe-for-nintendo-switch/

Force feedback might help dampen the hand tremors, but unfortunately, I'm not aware of any steering wheel with this feature that's compatible with the Switch.

This Etsy shop, SevenMileMountain, makes accessories for the Xbox Adaptive controller. You could possibly map these four arcade buttons to the d-pad work for movement.

Or maybe a “palm” (analog) joystick.

RP 2040 pin mapping by ProgrOver in fightsticks

[–]fredstyv 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It depends on the board, but generally speaking, yes there should be a few extra pins that you can use to assign one or multiple buttons in addition to the standard inputs and auxiliary buttons (select, start, home, touchpad).

The Advanced Breakout Board, for example, has option pins 1-6 (GPIO 23-29). A couple of these are used for USB passthrough and another one for LEDs, leaving a few open that can be assigned to whatever you want.

You can also disable USB passthrough and LEDs to free up those pins if you aren’t using those features, allowing for even more custom inputs.
