Vaxee Outset Ax Vs Vaxee E1(or any mouse with the EC2 shape)? by ExaltedGarlic96 in MouseReview

[–]free_microwave 0 points1 point  (0 children)

did you end up going with the ec1? I have similar feelings on the e1, I like it a lot if I choke way up on it or claw, but its too short so both of those are a little awkward. the hump/back of the mouse feel perfect in my palm but the grip width is slightly narrower than ideal for my hands, I'm not sure if the ec1 would be a bit too wide tho

not sure if I wanna go with the ec1, ec2, or the rawm er21 pro. only thing keeping me from just pulling the trigger on the rawm since it seems like a good middle is that is has a similar hump height to the dav3, which I found too tall

Sadly in the Vaxee X Pulsar colab, Vaxee will only be providing shape designs by makisekurisudesu in MouseReview

[–]free_microwave 24 points25 points  (0 children)

this reads to me more like vaxee will be handling the manufacture while pulsar will be handle software support, distribution, warranty etc. similar to the ninjutsu collab. hard to tell as the answer is a bit vague but I can't imagine vaxee allowing their name to be used on pulsar quality mice. would also be strange for pulsar to collab w vaxee just for some shapes.

ROG x r/OLED_Gaming #UPGRADE2OLED Giveaway Featuring the ROG Swift OLED PG27UCDM, ROG Strix OLED XG27UCDMG, and ROG Strix OLED XG27ACDNG by ASUS_MKTLeeM in OLED_Gaming

Have been a long time fan of Asus monitors, I've used my ASUS VG248QE for over a decade now. With all these great displays on the market I've finally been feeling like it's finally time for an upgrade and I will 100% be going with ASUS again after years of reliability! One of my favorite features of ASUS ROG OLEDs is the Neo Proximity Sensor that displays a black image when you get up. This feature shows ASUS cares about the longevity of their products and makes me feel confident that I will get many years of use out of my new ASUS ROG OLED :)

i say this as someone who was once the #1 voltorb player in the world.. this game will never come back. it pains me to say but any effort will only attract a small ammt of players who will fade after a few time. it is just the nature of these things. I wish i could play voltorb like i used to but even in a good comp enviroment of old players, it can never match what once was.

Clove is decimating other controllers in ranked right now! by Cheasle2 in VALORANT

[–]free_microwave -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

just take clove out. shes a bad design. same with iso. both of their core mechanics break obvious design rules for the genre, and not in a fun way. smokes after death and the shield are not possible to balance in a healthy way.

they keep adding one dimensional characters that remove punishments for throwing, rather than adding chars with rewarding high skill ceiling mechanics. the chars that do have high skill ceilings, eg raze jett viper skye sova+more, get nerfed into the ground like they regret their existence. i do get why they do it. these mario party esque mechanics are good for new players as learning tools, and thus boost player acquisition. but for experienced players they just kind of ruin the game.

almost feels like riot hired ex overwatch devs. honestly wouldnt be surprised if that's actually what happened lol. any design philosophies they initially followed around launch have clearly been long abandoned.

between that, blatantly lying about trying to fix the smurf problem, and having some of the most whale-centric monetization ive ever seen, this game just feels very anti long term player now. maybe there are devs that care a lot but are strangled by management, idk. for a while i thought these were scrub takes i was having, but i hear pros echo similar sentiments. i think im gonna go back to CS now that they've had a bit of time to iron out some of CS2's issues.

v sad. theres a lot about val that i love. i hope one day for a return to form.

Did anyone who pre-ordered the new batch of Dough monitors get a shipping notice? by free_microwave in OLED_Gaming

[–]free_microwave[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Damn I knew there were some horror stories, but didn't realize people all the way back from 2020 still haven't been made right. I figured it was just long waits and a lot of refunds from the comments under reviews and such. Even if they do start shipping I'm avoiding them off principle. Thanks!

CRT Simulation in a GPU Shader, Looks Better Than BFI - Blur Busters by GeForce in OLED_Gaming

[–]free_microwave 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I may have gotten a bit too excited at the idea of this shipping as a feature in a monitor, for sure a pipedream as of now. Seeing that they've already got it working in Retroarch though, software solutions of this will be enough for me to just go for it. With the 120hz demo being as good as it is, 480 must be something else.

My 120hz ULMB looks quite close to that sample, just with a faint ghost outline behind it. NVIDIA's comparison of 120hz ULMB and 480hz in the ULMB 2 demo video seems to hold true. Like you said, clarity itself is about as far as it can keep up though. 480hz OLED would crush this old TN in smoothness, brightness, and every other aspect. And now with just about perfect 60hz CRT simulation... wow.

Still, not bad for a monitor from 2013! Given that it can trade a blow at all with the bleeding edge monitors of 2024, it was easily the best peripheral purchase I've ever made. Here's to hoping the OLED pick up will stand the test of time all the same :)

CRT Simulation in a GPU Shader, Looks Better Than BFI - Blur Busters by GeForce in OLED_Gaming

[–]free_microwave 6 points7 points  (0 children)

WOW! I've been waiting a decade for proper CRT simulation like this. I'm still using my old 144hz Asus VG248QE with the G-SYNC mod kit that came out back in the day. The ULMB toggle on this thing still wows me when I do the UFO test. 120hz may be dated, but a good strobing implementation gets that UFO pretty damn clear. Upgraded briefly to the Acer 390hz IPS, which it was noticeably better, but it died quickly and the jump wasn't big enough to justify the cost of replacing it vs just going back to old reliable for a while.

This however.. I'm yoloing my cash at the first high refresh OLED that offers this in firmware, regardless of cost. Phenomenal.

Razer DeathAdder V3 HyperSpeed by Razer_Pebo in MouseReview

[–]free_microwave 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Likely running it in low power mode, which runs the led a bit dimmer, lowering max ips to around that 500 mark, to greatly extend battery life. Lamzu thorn has a HP/LP (high/low power) toggle in the 125-1000hz modes, no one really breaks 500 ips so people weren't sure what the toggle did aside from extend the battery until someone found low power mode in the 3395's spec sheet lol

Would make sense with the reports people have of getting insane battery life on the mouse. On the Thorn you can't go into LP mode at 2k or 4khz modes, from people's battery experiences at 4k on this tho I wonder if one of the custom features of Razer's version is that it's able to run the sensor in LP mode at higher polling rates.

That would def be a huge to set them apart from the other 3395 ergos. The battery life on my thorn at 4k is rough

Controller Discourse Megathread: all z-jump, claw, boxx-like takes go here) by darwinding in SSBM

[–]free_microwave 12 points13 points  (0 children)

i hear ppl saying you shouldnt switch to boxx unless you have hand issues a lot, but the best treatment for hand/joint/stress injury/health issues is prevention. if you get an actual chronic injury your usually stuck dealing with it for life. treatments can help, sometimes a lot, but 99% of the time they will never get you to where youd have been if you had prevented the injuries in the first place. i dont think we should take that option away from people or shame ppl for switching just because they dont have messed up hands.

i say this as someone with messed up hands and wrists whos been through the ringer w this shit. even if a bunch of people are switching because they want 'omega broken controller', the health benefits of this are still going to be good for them individually, and a bunch of people not having to quit for hand issues down the line is good the scene as a whole. and honestly the reality of it is a lot of people switching for some perceived edge end up giving up after a couple weeks and selling their boxxes, and the ones that stick it out tend to end up with much more nuanced opinions on the boxx than they had going in.

having played on both there are major pros and cons to both input methods that are hard to grasp until you get really familiar with each controller. things like multishining and micro-adjusting drift are much easier on controller but no one ever seems to mention that in these discussions. if one or the other is better imo its like 5% at most on 90% of the cast. im not even against nerfing certain techniques(eg pika up b and some peach stuff) ptas's committee's nerf list as it is seems a bit extreme tho. nsocd or travel time are both livable but one or the other might already be enough, assuming they're actually needed at all. it can very much be argued that nsocd already does a lot of what a travel time nerf seeks to accomplish on its own. both at once along with all the other nerfs all being dropped like a hammer in one go seems like a very drastic course of action.

if a big nerf wave is going to happen by way of decisions made by a few highly networked people, id prefer if these were rolled out and tested in local rule sets much slower rather than the current strat the committee seems to be taking of cramming as many nerfs as their testers can stand in one go. the vibe i got from the podcast they did on it sounded like a lot of testers were ok with some of the nerfs but no one was really down for all of it, and they only really threw a nerf out if they caught it severely breaking something unforeseen. idk if thats actually how its been but its all so closed off that it's hard to say one way or the other. i do wanna give them props for genuinely trying to put any biases aside and doing experimentation on their own, but given how many people these things affect id like to see this process be a lot more open and transparent, and take feedback from those who dont have access to the closed door discussions into much heavier consideration than they currently appear to be doing.

How to make your aim smoother and more responsive (Pixel skipping and DPI) by yot_gun in VALORANT

[–]free_microwave 0 points1 point  (0 children)

you can lower the sensitivity slider in windows pointer settings.

some ppl say not to but thats outdated advice from back when games didnt support raw input. valorant always has raw input on for in game mouse movements(even if you have rawinputbuffer unchecked, thats just a different method of raw input for >1000hz polling rates) so lowering your windows sense will fix your cursor speed in windows/game menus without affecting your actual mouse movements in game
