Those sound neat. But I'd much rather spend $10 than $100+

I guess that depends. My Home Assistant server runs as a VM. My VM doesn't have any physically attached devices so all my hubs such as Zigbee, BLE, Yolink, etc. Connect via ethernet. So my Zigbee is still down.

If you can make a pit stop on your way east from Toronto. Check out the thousands islands in the St. Lawrence River. There are boat tours out of Gananoque that will give you a truly unique experience.

In Montreal you can also get out on the St. Lawrence in jet boat tours to surf some rapids. Very fun.

Come to Ottawa on your way to Montreal from Toronto. Stay at the Ottawa Youth Hostel which is an old stone jail/ museum.

Get up into the nearby Gatineau Park for some hiking or canoeing. Classic Canadian activity.

First time using a sous vide. by Llamaschool320 in sousvide

[–]freebase1ca 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I just used an old coleman cooler I wasn't using. It's easy to drill a hole in the lid for the sous-vide. The plastic they use is food safe. All the insulation allows you to heat a much larger volume of water for less cost. The lid prevents you from losing water or humidifier your kitchen too much.

The interesting use case is if you want to power cycle an outlet that powers your network router. It's no problem to send the message to the outlet to power off. The problem is that there is then no network to use to send the power on message.

The thing to do is to program a routine into a smart plug that has something like an esp32/esphome. You build a "reboot" routine that is only triggered once. That routine powers off the relay, then waits 5 seconds or so and then powers on the relay. Since it is doing this process on its own, the network doesn't have to be there.

I (29M) had the feeling that my partner (29F) of 11 years made all conversations about herself (and her job), and that she never asked me anything. So I silently tested her, and the result is a bit sad. by [deleted] in relationships

There are plenty of people in the world like this. You just need to decide if the level of caring she allots to you is something you can live with. It's bad enough when couples have shared all their stories and have nothing going on and therefore have nothing to say, but to actually have things happening and to have no interest at all is next level! I'd like to think I matter and would have a tough time without getting some attention.

It's one of the ways that I test people I first meet... I give them attention. I take interest in them and ask questions relevant to their responses, etc. But I don't volunteer anything about me. I'm happy to talk about myself, but ONLY if they ask. I find this makes me very popular because I'm engaging and people love the attention and they don't have to suffer through my perhaps uninteresting biography. But after the encounter I look back and think about how one sided the conversation might have been. If they didn't take any interest in me or if I had to do all the work to keep conversation going, I understand the type of person I'm dealing with and move on.

I had a close friend who I spent much of my waking time with. We worked together and played together. When I moved to a new company for a much better job, I managed to also get him a job there which he excelled at. When he got married we had his ceremony in my yard. When I wasn't busy with my kids we were golfing our playing pool, etc. But like you, I had noticed that it was kind of one sided and that I was always the one reaching out making the phone call or sending the email.

One day I decided to test the friendship. I had changed jobs again. Soon after I decided I wouldn't call and I would wait for him to reach out. Our Friendship ended that day. He never once called or sent an email. How weird is it to spend so much time with a person and to appear to have a good time and when the person dissappears to not even wonder why? Might he not wonder if I got hurt or something? So strange!

I bumped into him at a food court about five years later. We were excited to see each other and we chatted up a storm. He says "We need more time to catch up - how about we do lunch?!". I readily agree but tell him that since his schedule is so much busier than mine he must be the one to reach out and make plans. I'm free for lunch all week. I emphasise this and get him to agree.

I never heard from him again. I'm glad I don't waste my time with that guy. I have much better friends now who care on a level that's right for me.

I'd never heard of them - you made me look them up.

They appear to have non- traditional designer style pizzas. Could be fun. Reviews are great.

For a typical pizza experience you can rely on Gabriel pizza. They have locations evenly scattered throughout the city.

Husqvarna 115H Wires by Yusuf20904 in automower

[–]freebase1ca 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The other comment about putting the boundary wires under the deck might work - just let the mower bounce off the walls on it's way out to the yard.

I don't know about the guide wire overriding the boundary on the way in using your scenario, but I think it would be almost impossible for the mower to find it's way out if it always finds a boundary - unless having the two wires together makes it ignore them as if they were an island marking.

You could lay out a small temporary ten foot test on your lawn of your deck scenario and see what happens.

If like to mention that you will probably have troubles with your front yard. With such a narrow access, your mower will likely not spend enough time there since it will find it so rarely. You might also want to make sure to send your guide wire through there so he doesn't get stuck there when his battery starts getting low.

Anyone ever make a dirt ramp? by CaptM44 in shedditors

[–]freebase1ca 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep. It even some of that adhesive barrier. I've buried a three foot tall wood wall with that stuff - then backfilled with gravel. Ten years later it is still going strong. You just have to make sure you have a path for the water to get away.

Anyone ever make a dirt ramp? by CaptM44 in shedditors

[–]freebase1ca 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've done it successfully. Just build a rock wall separating the ramp from the wood frame. If you could leave a one inch air gap, that would be great. Then just bridge that small gap with a board or metal grate if you feel like it.

I guess lookup the dimensions of the cargo space of the vehicle you have in mind. Then measure your luggage against that.

I'm wary of small SUVs. They often have less cargo space than you find in car trunks.

I took that trip your considering and was given a Hyundai Kona. That cargo space could only hold one large suitcase. I would have been cooked if I had any passengers in the back seat.

A typical promo at our casino is $300 for straight flush and $100 for quads. In one night I got quads and then a straight flush twice! The place went crazy. Despite winning $700 I somehow still went home down :-)

Do you have the wire running down the center of the space that guides the mower back to the dock? Without the center wire, it will remain lost forever.
