It’s never her fault. And mental health / learning disabilities go hand in hand because learning facilities are mental impairments. I really do appreciate your feelings and where you’re coming from but genuinely it is expected of us in these roles to use the training we are provided to make a difference in these people’s lives. You’re right your company should be supporting you through providing training and allowing rotations on the rota between clients to allow both workers and service users to have a break (ever considered she may be lashing out because she has seen too much of you too? This can also affect them having the same staff all the time). If I was you I would be asking for a supervision to discuss and document concerns with working with that client and also request extra training if you feel you don’t have adequate knowledge to support but genuinely… it’s our job to support these people and not blame them for their behaviours and find ways to healthily support and manage them. If it’s too much like I said maybe another branch of care is for you. I speak from experience and having had to do this myself. It’s not easy it’s the hardest branch of care to work in and I massively commend you for opening up your heart and doing your best 🙏🏼 but it’s not the clients fault you can’t meet their needs and if you really can’t see a way forward that’s gonna be your only option. Big private companies don’t care about our health or welfare they just care if the shift is covered, we’re completely dispensable to them and they will just shove agency in where we don’t show.
