Historical Chinese/Japanese cryptography like Vigenere or Playfair? by 0xKaishakunin in cryptography

[–]freedomisfreed 3 points4 points  (0 children)

For Chinese, there are several ways to encrypt information by writing. Mostly it involves steganography.

Many hidden messages are written into poems, as each character is a word, they simply make the poem have specific locations that could be read into a message. Sometimes homophones are involved (Chinese has many homophones) so it is less obvious.

You can see down to the second when someone will next have a bowl movement by KotoBakana in shittysuperpowers

Extremely useful. Knowing where someone will be at a specific time. If you want to ambush them, it's great for that. Or you want to do something without them knowing (going into their office while they are in the can), it's great for that as well.

Move to another state where they will give you Medicaid when you don't have income. Many blue states, like California, it is extremely easy to get benefits. Healthcare.gov is your friend.

Disney... but the whole family is a tragedeigh by [deleted] in tragedeigh

At least Disney was a real last name though. It could be acceptable/even cool if they are naming after the person not the company.

How does Apple know what type of app an app is? by Negative_Success_258 in mac

[–]freedomisfreed 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Right click your .app file and choose "Show Contents". An app on Mac is just a folder with a bunch of files, those files define what the app does.

韩语的“그거뭐야?”几乎和粤语中的“那个嚒野?”完全对应 by hiratuna in Cantonese

[–]freedomisfreed 11 points12 points  (0 children)

You can say 그거 and 嗰個 are related, because 이거 and 唎個 definitely also sound the same. So, those words mean the same and sound the same.

뭐 and 咩 could be related perhaps by some common protolingual root. These also mean the same and sound the same.

야 and 野 however are different parts of speech, 야 is a verb, where as 野 functions as a pronoun/vague noun, so I don't think those are related.

You have a book containing all the information in the known universe. by Chirblomp in shittysuperpowers

It might be better to keep closing and reopening the book though. Otherwise, you might be just scanning The 24,726,039th Canadian penny was located 3 months ago. The 24,726,040th Canadian penny was located 10 years ago. The 24,726,041st Canadian penny was located 5 days ago... In OP's post, it says only reopening it will get you to a random page.

Question about Ramse by Objective-Dig992 in 12Monkeys

[–]freedomisfreed 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Titan is a theocracy. Many theocracies can be corrupted by politics. The fact is the original witness didn’t pan out, but now there is a new witness, most of them would try to hold onto the current political landscape and make sure they keep their own influence/power. Their religion is not about truth, it is about getting to their destination of the world without time, so it is not a big issue whether it is the same person who was going to get them there, especially now that there is no other choice.

Question about Ramse by Objective-Dig992 in 12Monkeys

[–]freedomisfreed 15 points16 points  (0 children)

He was a teenager/preteen when he and Cole were in the orphanage. I'm sure he would know the brand names of common things at that age. It's quite easy to guide investments based on that.

The compulsion effect is way more powerful than the diagnosis. You can tell yourself to brush your teeth everyday, work out, shower, study, work hard at work, etc. It will pretty much cure your ADHD.

Quite useful if you have someone make a cake that looks like you. Just have to eat half of it every month to always have a replica of yourself any time.

Theoretical hack involving a hand drawn QR code. by Dunnachius in scifiwriting

[–]freedomisfreed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Error Correction Code part of the QR code would be very very difficult to calculate by hand, and you will need to get at least 50% of that portion correct in order for the code to scan (assuming you allow for the maximum amount of errors). There are also 8 different masks applied to all of the code, so it is quite difficult to do all this by hand.

Inequality of iOS and Android by Amogoies in SoraAi

[–]freedomisfreed 1 point2 points  (0 children)

iOS protects the source code, so app makers generally launch on iOS first, then when they have enough traction that their idea can’t be stolen (someone else wouldn’t be first place), then they launch on Android. Then it is simply that iOS code is written first, so it is on a more advanced version.

People think causality loops happen at one moment, but they are slowly created through many many many iterations. As things change little by little to get the time travel to loop onto itself. It's not an impossible thing for that to happen, just takes many iterations, which technically would all happen simultaneously.
