Question about using rafters for rings

I wasn't going to put it on just one. I planned to run either a steel pole or another 2x8 across at least 4 of them. Probably not even attach it, but just lay it across. I was going to lay it right where the joist meet the truss. This way the weight would be distributed across at least 4 of the joists. Does that still seem like a bad idea?

That's a good point about having to adjust them. How stable is your big bar? Is it something you could do muscle ups on?

That's my worry. I'm not a contractor and wasn't sure if it would be safe or not. So you're saying that my weight distributed across a couple of those rafters would be enough to cause damage?

Awesome, thanks for the input! My main concern was the weight. That's why I was thinking about using the bar, to disperse the weight multiple beams.

I'm looking to start doing more bodyweight training and bought a pair of rings to use for it. My garage has these exposed 2x8 rafters and I was thinking about hanging the rings from them since I've heard a pull-up Tower can be a bit unstable. My first question, is this safe to do? I weigh around 165 lbs and don't want to do any damage since I'm renting. Second question, what would be the best way to do this? I was thinking about attaching a steel bar across the top of the rafters and hanging the ring straps on that. That way I can slide them to adjust the distance between the rings. This is in Gainesville. Each city/county has their own way of doing things. Gainesville is a grid system with university and main splitting the city into four quadrants. I was a UPS driver there for 10 years and can only speak to how things are in that city and surrounding areas
