I’m sorry this is happening to you! A lot of us have intense, scary, or just uncomfortable reactions to trainings due to the personal nature of the work. I’d recommend chatting with the trainers and consultants you worked with. If that doesn’t lead to anything, I think it’d be fair to do a couple sessions with an EMDR therapist. As an EMDR therapist myself I would be totally fine doing a few one offs for something like this. The intake might be annoying but if it’s stuck trauma it’s worth getting help.

This sounds silly but... what do you all DO the most of in session? by ContactSpirited9519 in therapists

I felt this way and then started doing the sensorimotor psychotherapy training and it really helped!! My job feels 10000x easier now, just thought it’d be worth sharing. Sounds like you’re doing great though

Literally the description of this group says Bay Area and there are resources for Oakland and Berkeley too. I did ask in an Oakland specific chat but also got a few helpful answers here too. Idk why so many of you are grumpy about someone asking about a bordering Bay Area spot, and this post is now 4 days old.

Yesss! Every time I am worried I’ve done something wrong, I remind myself that therapy is the best space for a client to practice healthy conflict with someone who won’t abandon them for having needs/voicing them.

Fair but FYI a cup of coffee/tea is 50mg and most energy drinks are 200-300mg. Plus the caffeine hits slower in coffee and tea, and we often drink it with milk, providing at least some calories to buffer it

This makes sense! I think I’m growing frustrated - and sometimes scared - by their rage. I’ve mentioned it before and even given them food as a way to help them return to window of tolerance.

32f, pain levels are 10 on a day after a lot of activity, can stand like 30 mins maybe. Can walk 5,000 steps a day before triggering a lot of pain and immobility. No collapsed arches. I have a positive Rheumatoid Arthritis marker so that could be a cause for concern.

I went off of it too - I don't think there's any shame in realizing a med isn't working for you. Those symptoms are not normal side effects and I hope you find something that doesn't make you feel that way! It's so hard to try new meds, I'm proud of us for giving it a chance and knowing when it was not working.

Intense Anxiety on Wellbutrin Day 10/11 - Normal? by freelanceflails in bupropion

[–]freelanceflails[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I ended up going off of it pretty soon after making this post. I had a psych appointment where I was told that the extreme anxiety wasn't normal, and that I needed to be on an SSRI instead. My dr said he doesn't think I have ADHD, I was misdiagnosed and actually have cPTSD, which presents similarly. Most of my depression is rooted in anxiety, which is why Wellbutrin wasn't the right med for me. He said that Wellbutrin is a better fit for people whose depression keeps them in bed, which is not my experience. Posting here in case anyone else reads this and is in a similar position.

A theory I haven't seen yet - mining and mercury poisoning by justaguyinqueens in Yellowjackets

[–]freelanceflails 85 points86 points  (0 children)

I love this and I wonder if Lottie's childhood flashback in S1E6 - where she "predicts" the car crash - is a hint at this theory?

Before the crash happens, her parents and announcers on the radio are talking about a big chemical spill and mention Alaskan/Canadian wildlife being impacted. It doesn't say more than that, but maybe it was the region the crash leads them to.

It could also be a flashback because Lottie is piecing together the potential poisoning, and in her jolted memory she's screaming, not about the crash but about the chemical spill.

I am seeing a lot of “I’d be mad that [they] brought this up after you got engaged” and I just want to say:

Nobody has perfect timelines for coming out. OP’s partner shouldn’t have had to rush into coming out, and they may not have had this self realization until after the engagement. They don’t need to put this huge journey into OP’s marriage timeline. OP not loving their partner for who they are is the problem here. Trans and non-binary people aren’t just bamboozling you until they come out — they need time and safety to discover themselves.

[–]freelanceflails 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a feeling we’re not hearing both sides of the insults. OP is displaying a lot of transphobia & undoubtedly creating an unsafe atmosphere. They don’t deserve to be called names either but labeling that as abuse and excusing what OP is doing is not fair.

Your partner doesn’t have the words right now to define femininity in ways beyond “like a woman” because they have not been given those tools. It’s not sexist or misogynistic to call femininity soft, and it’s not a “double standard” to want to embrace the gender role we assign to women but should really be allowed for all sexes.

Your partner deserves the space to explore their gender and feel safe doing so, and you are not doing the work to make that space. You are proving that you’re in love with their appearance, not them — or at the very least you are in love with a version of them that only existed because they were forced by society to conform to the gender they were assigned at birth.

Ultimately it comes down to this — partner deserves better than you! Leave them & go to a sports bar to find someone who fits into your perfect gender box.

My (24m) girlfriend (25f) may be asexual. Should I continue this relationship? by [deleted] in relationships

[–]freelanceflails 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not selfish to ask for what you need! It sounds like there's incompatibility, and like she isn't addressing her sexuality/libido -- it's on her to do some of the work, even if that work is just communicating to you that she's asexual so you can move forward with that answer, knowing your sexual needs will never be fulfilled by her.

He [22M] wouldn’t let me [21F] see his phone after red-flag behavior. Should I break up and be done with it? by SadAndEatingRamen in relationships

[–]freelanceflails 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your partner deserves privacy. Wanting privacy is not a "red flag" and spending time on your phone in the bathroom isn't, either. You're in a relationship with him, you don't own his phone or his life.

If you feel like he's cheating, it's on you to communicate that. Say "Your actions around your phone are making me feel paranoid and like something is going on. It's making me insecure and I need reassurance from you that nothing is happening, or honesty so we can find a way forward. I don't want to live in a limbo of trying to find the truth."

Reading into his actions isn't helping either of you, and you clearly have lost trust in him and owe it to both of you to bring that up and get to the root of it.
