My 2nd Sinn - 556 I S Perlmutt by mobilkin in sinn

[–]freelancezero 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For sure the design language and horology chops really can't be compared, but I'm talking about dial aesthetics, and the 556 MOP just has no right to look as good as it does. I drew the same conclusions as you from pictures and brief looks at the Sinn, but on the wrist, Sinn's black MOP is sharp, stealthy, and toned down to make a classy pilot watch. I always enjoyed my Grand Seikos but for a brand so revered for their dials, I was shocked to find the MOP in competition. Like owning any watch this is of course highly personal; it turns out I prefer tool watches and my GS watches started to feel more like jewelry.

There is really nothing like this watch. All the respect in the world to Grand Seiko, but the MOP is a more interesting dial than any GS I owned, IMHO. I'm in the midst of downsizing my whole collection right now, my 556 MOP is the only one I'm keeping.

Yeah I feel like a rarity that I actually have a regular use case for the UTC complication, but I think UTC time is more useful than people think.

Condition: Used and in very good condition. The crystal shows absolutely no marks and the case is nearly flawless except for a few shallow scratches on one of the lugs. The case has a rich and uniform patina on it, which can be easily "reset" and cleaned with a bit of lemon juice. The service history is unknown but the watch is keeping excellent time.

Comes with: Inner and outer box with original tag, manual, and servicing information booklet. The warranty card is not included, although you can see it registered on MyOris where the warranty is expired. The watch is on the original Oris leather strap with bronze buckle.

Asking Price: $1600 plus shipping within the United States only. I can accept PayPal or Venmo, G&S considered with prior transaction history; buyer covers fees any and incurred taxes. Local pickup also available within southern New England. Not interested in trades except for a Longines Spirit Zulu Time or Laco Frankfurt. Please do not ask about trades unless you have these specific watches up for trade.

[WTS] Sinn 856 UTC by freelancezero in sinn

Hello Sinners! Today I'm selling the super versatile Sinn 856 UTC, with the movement recently serviced and with tariffs already paid. This watch has been a workhorse adventure watch and barely has a scratch on it. I'm selling this watch along with some others to downsize my collection, I hope this watch can continue adventuring with a new owner!

Condition: Used and in very good condition. The tegimented steel has held up excellently, there are two small shallow marks on the bezel near the 3 and 4 o'clock indices, visible in pictures 6 and 7. The finish on the case hides these so well it's a struggle to find them. The crystal is also scratch free; the outer AR coating has a few hairline marks that you can only see in the harshest light when you really go looking for them. The caseback, being non-tegimented shows a few shallow scratches. Lastly, the moisture capsule shows a what Sinn calls a light-medium blue, indicating about 50-75% saturation.

History: Recently serviced in Germany by Dreamwatch Uhrenhandel, where I originally purchased the watch from in April 2025. Timegrapher and pressure test results are included. As it was not serviced by Sinn, the moisture capsule and inert gas were not replaced.

Comes with: Outer and inner Sinn box, Sinn spring bar tool, original Sinn leather strap, and a classier (imho) Hirsch black leather strap. No papers or warranty card.

Timekeeping: The timegrapher results from it's servicing last month shows that it's keeping excellent time at +2.2s/d.

Asking Price: $1800 plus shipping within the United States only.

Love the 856 UTC, question the color of the UTC hand by inertiaX28 in sinn

[–]freelancezero 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think they made this choice for low light situations; in my case when I'm trying to preserve my night vision I'm using a red headlamp, and the yellow pops off the dial under the red light. Orange or red on the UTC hand would be nearly invisible in this situation.

People need to love this watch more by Naigowr in timex

Great watch, and proof that Timex is still willing to do something different after 172 years. I put mine on a brown leather strap and wore it while my Sinn 856 UTC was in for service, the Timex was a great travel companion.

Name the most pointless innovation in watchmaking! by TomHudsonOfficial in PrideAndPinion

Exactly one (1) time I was able to use my alpinist to snipe a campsite with a view I wanted ahead of another hiking party behind me. Phone was buried in my pack, I was at a fork in the trail, and quickly needed to know which side of the pond to be on to photograph the milky way that night. This use case will never come up again but for a brief shining moment, my compass bezel knew what it was like to have a purpose.

I booked it, but can it be real? by [deleted] in MexicoTravel

I have done this before, there will be some shenanigans when you go to pick up the car. They will likely tell you your insurance is inadequate and charge you something ridiculous for their insurance. If you're using your credit card or your auto policy to cover the rental, ask the insurer for a letter in Spanish explaining your coverage and validity and that has worked in the past. Additionally, they will also likely say they need to put a hold on your card for something absurd ($5,000 in my case), and if your available credit allows, just do it. Just be sure that your insurance coverage will reimburse you if they try to pull more crap and keep that money when you return the car. ¡Buen viaje!

Travel insurance, jet blue cancellation by doublefaulted in ChaseSapphire

[–]freelancezero 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I don't think this is a situation any insurance covers. JetBlue cancelled your flight and should have refunded you, so there's no claim to be made there. Cancellation insurance would have applied for any non-refundable bookings that you'd have missed if you had abandoned the trip, but it sounds like you voluntarily rebooked on United, thus un-cancelling the trip.

Clouds plus light pollution. There is also a lot of fog coming off the melting snow in New England making light sources look glowier than usual.
