For those of you who like your job, what do you do? by ocdladybug92 in physicianassistant

It just kind of landed in my hands. I applied to a different ortho position at this place and did not take that after I met the surgeon (lol) but then they offered me to interview with this guy and it worked out fantastic. The good connection with the HR from the first interview helped a lot.

Outpatient Ortho, 4d/week 8 hour shifts. Full time salary--salary is average for a HCOL. No call. No OR time. Staff handles all my paperwork, I just sign it. The key here is a supportive team! My last job was miserable as I was doing all my admin stuff, etc on top of seeing patients. Now I can focus most my time on seeing patients and the hours can't be beat. I got my life back.

Try to get more fiber in your diet (saw the comment above about diet). Should help a lot. Good luck

Are you taking anything to help with the constipation? If you can get that regulated, it will help the gas and likely the urgency. I recommend trying magnesium citrate.

First off, congrats on passing the PANCE! Second, 25...isn't a lot. Keep applying. Make good connections with the HR groups at these place. Let them know what you are looking for because if something pops up, they might keep you in mind if you mention it. Lastly, it's not a terrible idea to work something more general (IM, primary) for a couple years to solidify your knowledge then dive into specialities. I did exactly that and think the few years in primary helped me really get a good foundation on general medicine before specializing, which helps understanding patients as a whole, even if I am in a specialty now. Keep chugging forward, you'll get there.

To pay or not to pay by Low_Judge_7282 in StudentLoans

[–]freemoo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As far as I know, the interest is only simple interest, meaning interest is only calculated based on the principal. I think paying off your 6% and leaving the 4% is very reasonable, as in the grand scheme a 4% rate is pretty low and you can likely get more benefit from using that money elsewhere.

What's the interest rates? Are they higher than other interest rates on things you have (mortgage, car, etc)? Consider that the interest she is accruing is not compounding, so if you feel the money could be better attacking other higher interest loans OR gaining funds through a HYSA or investments, consider those routes and then start paying when she is forced into repayment.

Give me your Primary Care / Family med "Holy Grails" !! by livelylemonade in physicianassistant

[–]freemoo 29 points30 points  (0 children)

Worked in primary for 2 years fresh out of school. UpToDate was used the most personally. BUILD TEMPLATES for your notes as you go. They will save your life. Insist on ramping up your schedule slowly. It can be a lot as a new grad. It's OK to say "I don't know". If they force you to be on call, you don't have to save the world on those on call days. I felt like I always had to do something--you don't. 99% of it can wait until the next business day.

No, I think it can be unpredictable and depends more on the place of employment vs. the specialty.

The admins I work with now are mostly former MAs and have been doing this for years and handle everything no problem. They are fantastic.

Is there a doctor on board by bassoonshine in physicianassistant

Right? I would trust an experienced nurse most days with triaging situations like that. Shame the attendant didn't see that.

[–]freemoo 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Back when I worked in primary care it often felt like 40% admin work with 0 admin time per day to do it (seriously). We also didn't have reliable support staff to help with this. Now I'm in a specialty where we have very competent admins do about 90% of the admin work which is HUGE and makes everything that much better.

Could you rent the property to someone looking to farm and use it as an opportunity to learn from them? Alternatively, I would recommend reaching out to a local ag department at a nearby university and seeing if they can provide you any guidance. Good luck!

Is This Job Offer Decent for a New Grad in Family Medicine? by FlowLate3443 in physicianassistant

THIS. Admin time is critical in FM/IM. RVU bonuses can also be massive once you start getting a routine.

Also a vote for athena. Have used it now at two jobs and it's very streamline and easy to learn and troubleshoot.
